In past years we seen teams getting out in front of the deadline mostly so they can get the couple extra starts from the SP in July, but recently we dont see that much anymore because of all the teams still sorta alive for a WC spot.
Plus, teams that were sellers in the past were more aggressive to sell much earlier then they are now because of fear of not getting a better return if they waited because buyers wanted guys earlier, nowadays it just the complete opposite.
Also something to consider with Hoyer, maybe because of not having that extension he might have been hesitant or told not to trade away certain prospects, there has to be a reason for the timing of this extension to have been done now.
