  1. It belongs in the trash can, this would be the dumbest thing they'd do.. But for your question I would say Suzuki would be that guy
  2. Isn't this the Catcher most were hoping or thinking they'd sign? https://x.com/Rangers/status/1863753881785602059?t=KFwC9agMl3HR-1ZnHlffEw&s=19
  3. I just hope they dont trade their top prospects to get players that are over 30 and on downside of career, but have a friendly contract for remaining years left on it.
  4. I didn't say they wont, I asked if they would now because unless they make a trade with Taillon or decide to move Assad to the bullpen or trade him, they have no room for him.
  5. They may add one or two more arms for depth, who would they be looking to replace from the depth they have currently.
  6. So is this it for the rotation? Will they even attempt to go after Sasaki? Steele, Imanaga, Taillon, Boyd, Assad, Wicks, Wesneski, Brown, Horton Unless there's a trade made, that basically the rotation and depth they have now
  7. This is the type of signing i expect from them... it going to be another disappointing offseason The Cubs and free-agent left hander Matthew Boyd reached an agreement on a two-year deal on Monday, according to a report from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The deal is reportedly worth $29 million for two years, with $14.5 million a year, plus $1 million in performance bonuses ($500,000 each year).
  8. With Hoerner injury/surgery he'll likebe out until May or June depending on how he recovers and rehabs, plus then he'll need time to get baseball ready, so we may just see Shaw start the season with them as long as he has a good ST, i don't think as of now they have any real competition for him on the current roster. So he may have a great opportunity to show he belongs in the first month or so.
  9. They won 83 games with alot of key players not really hitting their average and a bullpen that struggled most of year, so yeah they can match that or better if just those two part of the roster is better then how they performed last season. That basically going to be the key to a successful season, their regulars position players that slumped most of season all have to improve from last season. Bullpen has to be better then they started out last season, and hope who they add to replace Bethencourt, Tauchman, and Wisdom can be as good or better then what they provided. Simple right .... lol Getting Sasaki would be major, hopefully they can somehow pull that off
  10. Who is it i dont see them signing as far as significant position players goes ? Pretty much any really good player that'll be looking for at minimum a 4 yr deal and over 20 mil per and unless Bellinger or another regular position player is traded, I just dont think Hoyer will go and add anyone other then 2 or 3 players who will accept a 1-3 year deal at a reasonable cost and are willing to be role/bench players. If he does add a player of what i consider significant, it'll likely be a SP. Sasaki is limited to the international bonus pool, so Hoyer will have to decide if he wants to put it all into him or spread it out towards the others they are tied to. Bullpen will be consisted of players they already have and recently added, other then players that will accept 1 year deals or minor league deal, i don't feel Hoyer will add anyone on a multi year deal for the bullpen like a true closer. So yeah, I don't expect much happening this offseason other then players that will replace the backups they let go of.
  11. I dont see the significant ones, just ones that will just make us go, ok they got a body, hopefully he'll be good or better then who they had.
  12. Most likely trades, injuries We will more then likely see Caissie and Shaw at some point during the season to stick around, not sure if there's really any other position player that would be considered in their likelihood percentage this coming season, but surprises do happen sometimes.
  13. That the magic question, will they do it ? Will they add 3-4 players that are more then just a step or so better then who they are replacing on the roster ? significantly better to me is a player that more a 2 to 2.5 steps+ better then the previous one. I just dont think we will see that, I think whomever they add will just be guys that'll be payroll friendly and not be anyone that'll make us say wow glad we got that guy type
  14. I wasn't suggesting they won't spend, just not spending on guys that are above mid range and yes go over the Threshold. Im just not expecting much of an offseason from them as far as any significant upgrades, i do see them adding better options to the pitching and bench players. I feel as the season goes on we may just see more of the ready prospects coming up added to the roster then we will see any new players they'll add from outside transactions this offseason.
  15. I dont disagree with you, hell they can add alot if they wanted to. Im just saying that if all these reports are accurate, Bellinger is likely to be traded and they aren't expected to bring in any top FA players because they are looking to be under the Threshold.
  16. Probably has alot to do with Caissie and if reports are accurate, shedding payroll. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jaredwyllys/2024/11/25/chicago-cubs-cutting-payroll-is-moving-the-wrong-direction/
  17. Jed was hoping and praying Bellinger opted out so they could likely just use his money to add 2 mid players. Now they'll likely trade him for a couple of prospects, but because it might take time to move him, they may be looking at the lessers of the mid players in FA as you said.
  18. As said they're not trading him
  19. Didn't think they'd trade him now
  20. That all he can do with the offense... Happ and Suzuki have NTC and everyone else under contract and unlikely to be traded to add a real upgrade at their position.
  21. Then you're ok with them being mediocre to bad most of time
  22. Still pretty sad that they likely won't be players for one of the best impact player that will be available via FA and is only 26 YO.
  23. Did that include not opting in on Smyly 10 mil ? I saw 51.6 but not sure if that was with the 10 mil or with the 2.5 buyout Either way though, whether it 50+ or 60+, I think the bulk of that will go towards pitching and possibly Sugano if they land him.
  24. True, but if they do move him this offseason, I doubt Hoyer even attempt to have that conversation unless he trades Bellinger or gets one of Happ or Suzuki to waive and trade. I bet he'll be content with having Bellinger, Happ, Suzuki, PCA (Busch) as his regulars with Caissie and Alcantara as his future/depth and won't feel a need to add another guy that will require 500+ AB for the OF/DH. The names we would likely have to be looking at are probably Catchers, and ones that will be useful off the bench that would be upgrades over who they have now. Bethencourt, Wisdom, Canario, and Tauchman
  25. He made 750 K last season and is projected to make 5 million this season, i think they can handle that. Not saying they won't but they don't need to trade him this offseason.
