  1. With all the injuries this team is SO bad right now. We ought to lose the DeGrom game but these other three are as winnable as any Marlins or Padres game.
  2. I know he's going well already but I get the feeling Schwarber's about to go into a monster hot streak. Like he's dancing around it right now.
  3. Yikes. Have to imagine that's probably it for him as a starter in 2018.
  4. Me, noticing that the Mets have a 70 (!!!) wRC+ against lefties and we're starting 3 of them
  5. I really like Almora. I feel like the switch flipped against RHP in August of last year, and through ~3 months of play he hasn't really gone backwards yet, so it's looking more and more likely those gains are real. The BABIP will come down but even still something like .290/.340/.450 with legit defense is looking more and more reasonable as an expectation. It does need to be pointed out that Statcast HATES his offense. But those metrics haven't shown to be any more reliable/predictive than the stuff we've had for a while now, so it's not a death sentence.
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] There's probably a hot carl joke to be made here but mostly I'm just sad
  7. My gut says that play was dirty. That being said, I think JD is right. That's a double play, and so Rizzo's slide should be treated the same way as a slide into 2b on a double play. In that sense, it's on Elias for being oblivious.
  8. How long do you think they let him go if he stays perfect? Like he's clearly not finishing this game, but if he sticks to ~10 pitches an inning do they let him go 7?
  9. Seal Boy missed a sign is my guess. Yeah that's what it seems like. Kuhl's a flyball guy, and Seal Boy's not a crazy groundball guy either. Not sure why the hit and run was necessary right there.
  10. The fact that it's backdated is an encouraging sign, but a triceps injury for a guy who's already had TJ is always acary.
  11. They're also 13-5 in one run games. There might be a little extra juice there on account of their vaunted bullpen, but record in ine run games is the quintessential luck stat that basically always normalizes eventually (except the Orioles that one year).
  12. If the Cubs come through here, is Ike Barinholtz the new gif theme?
  13. He's George Costanza mocking Derek Jeter for taking 6 games to win the world series
  14. OBP is a hell of a drug. Also, Javy has 9 errors already, so Addy's got a pretty decent defensive edge thus far. Errors don't really factor into advanced fielding metrics. Addy has superior range and a more accurate arm. "Error Runs" are a component of UZR/DRS. I'm not sure if they're 1:1 with the errors that come via the oficial scorer, but it's what's dragging Javy's defensive numbers down this year. (he's 3 runs below average on the year)
  15. I looked it up just because I was curious and not trying to make any point, but him and Javy have the same fWAR. That is surprising. OBP is a hell of a drug. Also, Javy has 9 errors already, so Addy's got a pretty decent defensive edge thus far.
  16. 93 MPH off the bat, that's on the weather
  17. Yes, but conventional wisdom is that since the NBA tolerates and even encourages its players to speak out on topics that mean something to them, they're happier to play ball on that topic. And in any case I think that's an old rule, made before this stuff blew up, that could be changed. Also, it was collectively bargained rather than implemented unilaterally.
  18. Yeah if we're going bat-only guys, give me Larnach over Beer. Though in that scenario, I'd be mighty tempted to take Groshans, Naylor, or Thomas. Those are three high quality well rounded high school position players. Though if we take a college bat I trust this FO implicitly that he's a good choice.
  19. [tweet] [/tweet]
  20. I've been crazy pessimistic about Lester but with how good he looked last time out plus striking out Jose Ramirez just now I'm nearly off the ledge.
