  1. I like what we've seen from Keegan Thompson thus far, but he's not missed bats AT ALL in the early going. He's maybe the worst choice in the entire pen for this situation. This might be the first time this season the team has actively seemed to prioritize player dev over winning within a game
  2. Brailyn Marquez and Burl Carraway offer two good opportunities for that sort of mega-impactful reliever
  3. That Justin Steele slider absolutely wrecks horsfeathers
  4. The bar is practically underground, but with two swinging strikeouts that was maybe Zach Davies best inning as a Cub
  5. I kind of wonder what the league wide numbers look like. Because it seems like all of our hitters at MB are struggling, and also seemingly all of our pitchers are missing a ton of bats. Even the guys who are non prospects or only sort of prospects. May be that this is the portion of the minor league ladder most feeling the lost 2020.
  6. I could have sworn Triston Mckenzie was supposed to start this game, but I see nothing in Twitter about why he was scratched.
  7. He can't pitch to left handed batters. He's useless as a starter. lefties are hitting .222 against him. With 16 strikeouts vs 4 walks
  8. This is a Bayless-ian level hot take
  9. Alzolay is so good on a per-batter/per-inning basis. Obviously getting the stamina to not tire after 15-20 batters isn't a small issue to overcome, but the building blocks are there.
  10. I'm expecting Hill to go to a team with a comp pick or high second rounder because they'll be able to manage the extra bonus demands and are better able to handle the additional risk. Maybe with Hoglund now needing TJS too, both of them can't be funneled to teams with more bonus space. Even with his swing changes that match up with improved contact, I'm not a fan of Fabian. I just am not comfortable with guys who strike out so much in college (call it Brett Jackson flashbacks if you will but it's not like the Dodgers were able to fix Jeren Kendall's contact issues). Yeah, it feels like a team like the Tigers, picking at both 3 and 32, would make the most sense. But the White Sox have essentially equal draft capital to the Cubs if I'm not mistaken, so I'd be pissed if we passed on him and a team like them nabs him.
  11. HARD pass on not going with Jaden Hill in that scenario.

  13. 12/22 for Howard, 10/16 for Nwogu. Yeah the MB lineup is getting absolutely worked right now. The more advanced guys are all really handling the strikezone well. Roederer has as more BBs than Ks, Strumpf and Amaya have equal numbers of both. Even Chris Morel, who's very much a free swinger, only has 3 KS in 22 PAs. A good week for the guys who have a path to Wrigley in the next ~15 months, and we should add Brennen Davis back likely this week.
  14. They did it: 5 Ks and a popup in two perfect innings from Wieck
  15. This is the BABIP-iest inning I've ever seen. Not a single ball over 90MPH and 4 runs
  16. Loving the groundballs but it's kind of crazy how little swing and miss he's gotten in the early going.
  17. Beth Mowins. And I think he's done some Saturdays, but I don't think he's done a single Sunday yet.
  18. The average ball put in play off of Williams has been hit 92.6 MPH. For reference, that's the same exit velocity as Freddie Freeman and Rhys Hoskins have so far this season. That's bad. Obviously. Honestly though, there is a lot of encouraging stuff from him too. He's throwing more strikes than ever. He's throwing more first strikes than ever. He's getting more swing and miss than ever. He's got the second best groundball rate of his career. Pre Statcast, I'd be pretty adamant that this is a league average starter who got BABIP'd for a month.
  19. Turns out tonight Gallardo was
  20. I do think the Dodgers will ultimately win 100+, but them aside it's kind of remarkable how quickly we exited the super-team era.
  21. I was going to complain about no Kimbrel, but I didn't realize how much he's worked lately. Last Thursday, then Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
  22. Holy Christ Joc. Two pitches in a row
