  1. 107.9 would be a 21st percentile max exit velocity in the bigs. Again as a 17 year old that's some real pop.
  2. That would be quite a lot of juice for a 17 year old. HS players aren't usually underslots but given his rankings have to wonder here.
  3. The Cubs have a higher projected RoS winning percentage than any other team in the central right now via fangraphs. Their only outgoing FA of note is Bellinger. They will, assuming Bellinger does leave, have ~$70M standing between them and the luxury tax. They have 4-5 top 100 prospects with an ETA between now and this time next year. The hole is probably too big in 2024, but writing off 2025 as a lost season does not hold up to any scrutiny, and it's only true if the team succumbs to the mystery box thinking being suggested and trades players for unnamed prospects just for the sake of having more prospects.
  4. He is still deep deep deep in the red, but since his little reset Miguel Amaya is 5/12 with a double, a homer, and two walks. I don't think there's anything he can do the second half to earn the starting job for next year, but I'm not writing off I'm being a high-end backup/2nd division starter type.
  5. I posted about a week or so about the minor league pipeline. The one of the takeaways was that there's a big gap in talent on the position player side between in that South Bend verging on ready for Tennessee part of the farm. Adding two hyper-polished college hitters is a resounding way to fill that void. Pitching pitching pitching with maybe a catcher or two from here, please and thank you. Watch some tape from Day 2 in 2022 for some inspiration Dan.
  6. Similar to what 1908 just posted, looks like Mathis has a hell of a lot more power than that tepid MLB.com scouting report
  7. Kiley had Mathis at 69 (nice) and MLB had him at 84. Longhagen didn't rank him. Kinda wonder if this was a money saver, whether that be for Smith or for someone later.
  8. Longenhagen just said Baltimore is taking Waldschmidt in the comp round
  9. I wonder how possible it is we see a run on arms and prep hitters in the 30-50 range as teams make their second picks and Cubs get gifted a second college hitter of substance at 55.
  10. Never heard of this account but lots of smart people follow them
  11. Yeah I think him and Wiggins are In their own little tier, behind all the guys who get real top 100 consideration, we'll ahead of Birdsell/Rosario/Hernandez or anyone else you would potentially throw a 45 on.
  12. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/ Realistically anyone from 10-26 on this list feels pretty reasonable. I think most recent mocks have had the Cubs taking Cam Smith, James Tibbs, or either Moore (no relation). It's a strong and deep college hitter crop. Seems unlikely any of the top tier guys (top 8 ) slide, but the 2nd tier could go any number of directions. There are a couple high school bats (most notably Bryce Rainer) and a couple college arms that the team could possibly pop, but college bat feels by far the most likely.
  13. This is not quite the Gregory Polanco debacle against the Cubs but boy is it closer than I ever thought I'd see again
  14. Zac Gallen is pitching for the Dbacks right now. While he could start as early as Friday, presumably they will use the ASB to get him some actual rest and he won't go in the Cubs' series next weekend? If we can face the Dbacks in a series where we throw Steele and Shota and they don't throw Gallen or Kelly that's a huge opportunity to keep this momentum going coming out of the break.
  15. Morel's got a lot of problems, I've still yet to see a reason to not expect a wRC+ in the 120 range or better. "He had a couple hard hit balls to CF" is not a super compelling argument.
  16. Holy horsefeathers I posted this and he immediately did it again!
  17. There is a baseline level of offense that PCA has not met yet, but I do think it is genuinely good for a lineup to have 1-2 aggressive bad-ball hitters like this
  18. Yeah short of like a Hayden Simpson type debacle I don't think there's anyone we should be too upset about. Honeycutt is probably the closest? Otherwise I think worst Cade scenario is taking a reach pick (e.g. Janek) but not actually pocketing much slot $ for them. And that's something you can't really know in the moment.
  19. Cool I was hoping they had this contingency ready to go. Combined with using Bote for an inning the pen is in great shape. That was probably Roberts' best outing as a big leaguer though, he'll be back soon. But Palencia seems far more likely to quickly backfill Little in the circle of trust.
  20. Good on Wesneski for wearing it and getting through 4. Getting through the last 4 with a combo of Roberts, Smyly, and Lopez feels pretty reasonable, and if you do so you're in good shape for tonight and tomorrow. I would feel a bit better if Palencia is in town in case they wanted to add a fresh arm between games.
