  1. Good luck with that Old Style! :D
  2. Oh so glad to see some good Gamecock BB here in Columbia with the Cubs sucking so bad (again). Ray Tanner is such an awesome coach and generally good guy. Was really hoping the Cubs had a shot at Jackie Bradley, Jr. He's an exciting player to watch, despite his drop off in power this year and writst injury.
  3. More likely that Castillo is trade bait. Depending on what you consider a top starter, I don't think that Soto would land us such a creature. More likely a Jake Westbrook type. I disagree, soto has shown that he really cant stay healthy for a whole season for like three years in a row now. If Castillo tears it up soto could definitely be a trade candidate this year or in the offseason. Unless Geo's out for most of the season, that would be a huge overreaction. Even if Castillo hits extremely well, we're only going to see him for 2-3 weeks or maybe a month tops. That's not enough time to determine that he's a better option than a 28 year old catcher who we know will OPS .830+ with good defense. What is Castillo's ceiling? Does he project to be as good as Geo has been (or at least close to)? If so, wouldn't this be a good opportunity to trade Geo while his value is high to bring up a less expensive alternative since it doesn't appear the Cubs are going anywhere this year, especially if the $$ the Cubs save making a move like this helps toward netitng them a front line 1st baseman?
  4. 2 of the 3 counts the jury hung on they voted in favor of acquittal, but the other hung count the vote was 11-1 in favor of guilt. Bonds' attys immediately filed a motion asking the judge to throw out the one guilty count and a hearing is set on that motion.
  5. Wasn't Ernie Banks' original position ss? Did he always have power or did he develope it? Not comparing Castro to Banks, just askin.
  6. Put on waivers according to Sullivan. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0329-cubs-bits--20110328,0,5658997.story Okay, that's a huge difference... not if another team claims him of course, but at least we're trying to keep him in the system rather than cutting ties completely. so if another team claims him, that team must put him on its 25 man roster?
  7. I finally got to watch the last 2 games, and Quade was interviewed during both by the guys in the booth. Not surprised that Len & Bob's questions to him had more substance. The ESPN guys are a piece of work, especially that guy who was interviewing the players during the game. But I digress. Really like Quade's style. He seems like a no nonsense guy, and I like what I've heard from the players about him since he was brought on last season. Also good to see the Cubs organization rewarding someone who has not only paid his dues but is truly a good choice regardless of the time he has put in.
  8. Nope. I'd highly suggest you go download Microsoft Security Essentials and get your machine scanned. I have Norton 360 and I run scans often. puter seems to be running fine w/out any issues since this happened. Would you still recommend downloading MSE? If you're still getting popups/virus like activity while you're on the actual NSBB site, yes. If you're getting those popups and stuff while still getting the old "domain is parked" page, no. That said, I like MSE much, much better than Norton. And it's free. Thanks. the pop-ups only occurred when there was problem accessing this site last week, and when they did I shut down, disconnected the internet line, then ran full scans after rebooting. no problems now.

  10. A 1 yr deal for 2012 with a team option for 2013 or buyout sounds wiser.
  11. Did any of y'all get numerous pop-ups/virus like activity when you tried to access the site? That happened to me for 2 days last week. Had to completely shut down both times, disconnect my line and run scans. I've stayed away from the site until today hoping it would get resolved.
  12. Could it be that the new owner(s) are just better business people, will spend their resourses more wisely, and put together a contender with a lower payroll? It IS possible to put together a winning team and not have one of the highest payrolls in the league.
  13. I'm thinking that if you don't trust Marmol's health (and I don't), then trading him makes even more sense than 1- or 2-year deals. If the guy blows out his elbow, then the Cubs are still left holding the bag... just not as heavy a bag. I think that depends on how competitive you see the team being this season. I'd certainly go 1-2 year deals at this point and would heavily consider trading him at the break if we're out of the race. His value is likely at an all time high right now, with no health concerns. We're always advocating on this board for the Cubs to sell high. Perhaps now is the time to do that. Who in the organization can handle the closer role if the Cubs could land a good haul for Carlos?
  14. Yes, it was, and I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but if the Cubs truly need/want to shed payroll, Z seems to be the one who has the most value on the market. No one will take Soriano's contract and his skills have diminished so he won't be moved, and the Cubs need Fuk's bat in the lineup. With the emergence/availability of the younger arms in the Cubs system, it seems that Z can be moved without the rotation taking that sever of a hit. The Cubs should be able to get a pretty good bat in exchange for Z. Just a thought.
  15. Not with his contract. No argument that he is still owed alot ($36mil) but that is for this year and next, correct? The Yankees were willing to throw a boatload at Lee to sign him, and one would think Z might waive his NTC to reunite with Rothschild. the Cubs could always throw in some cash as well.
  16. Does anyone here think that this trade paves the way for Z getting traded at some point during this season, perhaps at the deadline if the Cubs are out of it?
  17. How about Z and Soto for Montero + (fill in the blank)? would any of you do this trade? would the Yanks do this trade?
  18. The Cubs could have easily matched or bettered this deal w/o losing any valuable trade pieces.
  19. I'm not sure what I misunderstood but I think I made it clear I'd rather stick with Fukudome this year than pay him to play elsewhere and/or take back somebody else's contract and playing an out machine in Colvin. The decision on another contract can wait until next year depending on how the team looks. Fair enough. My question wasn't clear. IF you could trade Fuku and get decent value for him and/or not have to pay the remainder of his salary, would you do that or would you instead trade Colvin and try to re-sign Fuku after this season?
  20. It could be, and if he traded him this offseason I would be very impressed with his newfound ability to play chess. But the Cubs are the quintessential telegraph what you are going to do organization and they have made it abundantly clear that Fukudome is gone. True, but since this is Fukudome's last year, would you rather they hold on to him and try to resign him or stick with a cheaper version in Colvin, despite Fukudome being the better player? Colvin is not a cheaper version of Fukudome. He's the complete opposite. I would much rather just hold onto Fukudome than pay him to play elsewhere or take on somebody else's contract. If/when Fukudome is traded, this team's only real patient hitter is gone. Soto will be the only one who is actually patient, and he'll only play 125 games. This organizatio's offense has sucked for almost the entire decade. The only time it didn't suck is when it was briefly among the most patient in baseball. The outfield is going to make a lot of outs, and so will most of the infield. You misunderstood my question gooney. Fuku will be a FA after this year. So would you rather keep him and then sign him to another contract or trade him and go with Colvin who is cheaper but a lesser player?
  21. Don't watch SatC, so sorry...don't get the reference. But when Kerry first came up I realized we were close in age and it's just something that's stuck with me. Anyhow, didn't mean to make into a thing...just was a throwaway comment... Are you talking about Kerry Wood or Kerry Bradshaw? :D

  23. does anyone know if Uggla can play 1st? if he's declining in defense at 2nd, is that his next likely move position-wise?
  24. rhino? Me brain is still trying to recover from the SC/Auburn game and all the after party shots that followed...sorry Ryno
