Civale might actually be the best in the pen at the moment. I assume his role is going to be for multiple innings. I forgot to include Zeferjahn from my previous post but it looks like Couns likes him as his get out of trouble guy right now. If he can keep that role it would be huge. Might be more important than who closes. He kinda reminds me of Marmol with his delivery and the way his slider moves.

At this point I'd rather they just keep putting Webb, Palencia, Cabrera, and whichever lefty out in high pressure situations amd see if someone figures ut out before the season ends. That to me is more important than playoff seeding.

I mean anything can happen but we just do not match up well against the Brewers. I think it's because our pitching doesn't strike people out. Maybe the BAPIP gods could bless us for 5 games but I'm just sick of seeing that team beat us by weak grounders and pop-ups while we smash balls that go right at defenders or die at the warning track. Feels like losing to another team is a more honorable death.

I’m actually usually pretty positive haha. The constant home runs and blown saves from the pitching has just completely removed any expectations I have for this team.

If the bullpen was just simply "bad but at least we have 1 guy" then I'd feel a little more confident in the playoffs. 2016 was basically all Chapmam once Strop and Rondon got hurt. But we're worst in the majors/giving up HRs at a near historic rate type of bad. It could be enough to get past the Phillies but you're not gonna get past the Brewers and or Dodgers with that. Brewers completely destroy our pitching. ATL on the road and then Dodgers in 5 might actually be a better match up for us. It's probably time to start giving PCA, Bregman, Suzuki, and Nico some rest whether it's DH or a day off. Need them fresh for the playoffs.

They have to score 7-8 runs a game in order to win because our pitching gives up HRs at a near historic rate and our bullpen is not capable of holding a 3 run lead.

Not if they go up against our pitching. You need clutch pitching to win in the playoffs. There’s not 1 person in the pen you can trust to put into a high leverage situation with runners on base late in the game. There’s not even anyone you can trust to close out a game with a 3 run lead. You can’t realistically expect the Cubs to average 8 runs a game against the Brewers or Dodgers pitching staff.
