  1. But they aren't - thats why he's getting $680 and not $460.
  2. So what future justifies the contract. If they don't win a world series - that'd have to be a bit of a disappointment? Obviously more so if they don't even make one - or they make the next 10 but lose them all. If Shohei never pitches again is it a disaster? How much does the merchandising cushion it? What do the next 10 years need to look like for you to acknowledge that the contract "worked out"?
  3. I'm going to stick to my belief that these super nova type deals ever actually work out. 🖕
  4. He can hit and pitch but can't put on his own jersey - don't need this clown!
  5. I get the logic but I also remember when Adrian Gonzalez was going to hit 50 hrs in Boston (or equally out of SD) and Soriano was going to hit 15 in Washington. Sometimes you just don't know...
  6. Was he? If you extrapolate so the same number of games for both, Bellinger's bWar is higher; his fWar is marginally less. Certainly close enough not to be meaningfully different. The key factor - I believe - is that Cubs desperately need some thunder in the line-up and that's not going to be Dansby. I have no real issues with Dansby - wouldn't mind a bit more offense but I don't think he's ever going to produce at Bellinger's 2023 level - nor do I think anybody expects him too - but the Cubs need someone to. I'm happy to give Bellinger a shot again but I certainly don't thin Hoskins - as an example - can be the replacement on his own.
  7. Yeah but every team can resign him next offseason - they just won't have to give up the prospect haul the Yankees did. There's going to be huge pressure for results in one year for both himself and the team. What are chances Soto hates it in NY? I'm going to say above average.
  8. It's actually 328 feet.
  9. I think it was less the name and more the robotic cadence to the post and idiosyncratic use of capitalization that lead to the assumption.
  10. FWIW Toronto media claiming the Jays are one of the final four teams.
  11. Also if they don't get Soto now there's a reasonable chance you can get him next year without having to give up any prospect capital.
  12. I think JD is fantastic. Booger is a bit of a tool - which may be part of the appeal - but he's grown on me and I think he has good chemistry with JD. I know I'm in the minority but I don't mind Sutcliffe - maybe that would change if he did every game but there have been at least a couple times where he's thrown out the scenario of how he thinks the opposing team was going to handle a situation on the field and both JD and Boog were "Sut you're out of your mind" and it played out exactly like he said. One was walking the tying or winning run to get to Contreras who promptly rolled over on a pitch to end the inning. I'll always have a soft spot for Harry and Steve. The first year I started watching baseball was Steve's first year in the booth. Harry was certainly clunkier as he got older - although that did result in the classic Harry line as Arnie zoomed in on a couple huddled under a blanket in the bleachers - "Look Steve they have a system to keep warm; he kisses her on the strikes and she kisses him on the ...: Harry wasn't the greatest human either - the story of him at Chip's little league game is absolutely brutal - google it if you don't know it. I'm fairly indifferent on Pat but I do enjoy listening to Ronnie.
  13. I'm not buying it. Over the last year and a half the media/fans have really soured on Vladdy as he has continued a decline from 2021 numbers. Bichette is the face of the franchise currently and when extension talk comes up it's Bichette that "needs" to be extended not Vladdy. The Moreno trade is brought up constantly - the Jays need to publicly "win" a trade so they're not giving anyone away. There in "win now" mode so I don't think they are interested in prospects. I think Vladdy could be had and maybe Manoah but I'd be Craig Counsel surprised if Bichette went anywhere and even more so if it were for prospects.
  14. Belt's 36 and talked about retiring at the end of last year. Mancini - at 30 - had the same WAR with Baltimore in 2022 that Belt had in 2023. I mean if there's no-one to play 1B and Spring Training is 2 weeks away and he's going to sign for less than a Million...
  15. Right...but that's the big issue you're not going to be able to know that before you trade for them.
  16. Yeah that seems a little heavy.
  17. Also you pay taxes based on where each game is played so it only impacts half of a players salary. FWIW
  18. Fire it up! Hi o tsukero!
  19. His HORRIFIC MLB.com show has soured any potential fond memories of DeRosa.
  20. Sign 'em both. Ohtani's jersey sales will cover Bellinger's contract.
