  1. You know who has really great batted ball data? David Bote - how has that translated into career success? Miguel Sano's hhr was 4th in MLB in 2021 in - you want guess how he performed in 2022. Bellinger played a 130 games last year - after spending a month on the disabled list. If he played in 150 that's 5 WARish. That's not even close to a career high. This isn't Mastrubuoni suddenly having a 4 war season out of the blue. His 2 strike approach is clearly contributing to his BBD and deciding he can't replicate his production - when it is clearly in line with some previous years - seems awfully pre-mature. Maybe the HHR is the mirage not the production. There's always some chaff at the top of HHR charts
  2. No - Betting money on over 3 WAR for next year.
  3. Again where can I put money on the over for this?
  4. It's almost like they're just making up the numbers.
  5. - ZiPS is as skeptical as many about Cody Bellinger, projecting just 2.7 WAR and a 108 OPS+ Is there somewhere I can put money on the Over for this?
  6. So would the Cubs go with 3 lefties in the rotation?
  7. I think the sight of Ohtani will keep those cheeks dry.
  8. In 2002 Prior was #1, Cruz was #2, Zambrano was #6 and Guzman was #14. Prior and Cruz were 2 and 6 overall. Pretty sure I saw a couple "Cruz might be better than Prior" comments back in the day. Cubs had 7 top 100 prospects in 2002. Zambrano had the highest career WAR; #2???? (I believe) Good ol' Dontrelle Willis (19.7 to Prior's 16.7) ranked as #21 on the Cubs prospect list. Who'd a thunk that back in 2002?
  9. Is that not for LT calculations? They are paying 15M this year and the remaining 8+M starting in 2030. So I'm assuming it's more about cash flow relief - but I'd agree that it seems more effort than its worth. Of course its not my money.
  10. Is there any sort of stat for any extra bases taken/advanced?
  11. Perfect. Swoop in and sign him while everyone's asleep.
  12. But he wasn't a 3 win player - just saying he was doesn't make it so. He was at 8 WAR the year before his injury. If he'd played a full season he'd likely have been over 5 last year. Its not like he doesn't have a track record. Freeman signed a 6/162 contract at a season with a same or lower WAR after you equalize games played than Bellinger had last year. He was 4 years older and can't play the OF. Again stick David Bote at first if you are going to fixate on hard hit rate over actual results of 4 injury free years.
  13. I just don't agree with this. He is 4 years younger than when Freeman signed his big contact. He CAN certainly play CF until Happ or Suzuki are done but he doesn't have to. Is Xander Bogaerts going to be playing SS or even 2B when he is 42? Now if you can show me that Bellinger wants $200M over 3 years then I'll revisit. There is value in Bellingers versatility that is lacking in lots of other players. He likely would have been over 5 WAR had he played a full season last year; has come close to 8 in another - which is almost 1 WAR more than Juan Soto has ever achieved and their WAR on a per game basis was pretty close last year . He's 28 years old, and isn't going to cost any players - you want the Cubs to spend money? Then this is the type of player they should be spending money on and if they want top level talent that's the kind of contract their going to have to sign.
  14. I live about 1/2 an hour from where he grew up in Etobicoke - made famous in the Netflix true crime series - Don't F%^@ with Cats - and he always annoyed the hell out of me. I will say he has grown on me tremendously over the last couple of years. There have been on again off again rumors for the last year or two about interest by the Blue Jays. Anyway I'd be happy to see him get one more kick at the can.
  15. Why is this case? If Bellinger played a full season last year his bWar is over 5 - which is on same level as Freemans last year before signing his current contract (and he's 4 years younger) Bellinger has achieved a higher single season WAR total than Freeman ever has; by a fairly wide margin. Hard hit rate? You know who has a pretty good hard hit rate? Higher career mark than Freeman in any case - David Bote. Do we want him playing 1B? Even if he ends up playing 1B part of Bellinger's value is that if Seiya turns back into a Kabocha, if PCA doesn't pan out, if Happ tears his ACL he slides back to the OF and probably plays better than who he is replacing. How many years are those guys signed for anyway? The Cubs need a stud offensive force in the line-up - where else are they going to get one? It sure as hell ain't Matt Chapman. Would it be better fit if Jose Ramirez were available - sure - but he isn't. I believe Bellinger is going to be good enough offensively and that coupled with the flexibility he gives the lineup is justification enough - in my eyes - to sign him.
  16. I'm a Cubs fan excruciating is the base line.
  17. Hey it was 108 years last time. I can do 11 standing on my head.
  18. Both he and Derek May were guys that I figure if they'd been in a position where they could have been left alone to play full time for another year or two they both could have had pretty decent long term MLB careers. Though I'm sure there are plenty of those guys currently at Ford Dealerships right now.
  19. horsefeathers that. I hope they make it to the next 10 WS and lose them all.
  20. Bellinger. More importantly offense is a bigger part of his profile - which I think the Cubs desperately need.
  21. Sorry Matt Chapman is not a "foundational" player.
  22. I'll take one of each, thanks. If Hoskins is your Bellinger replacement the Cubs are in trouble unless you think PCA is going to turn in a Fred Lynn like rookie season. Chapman is trash. The team needs offense - especially if Bellinger is gone and they are faced with the unknown that is PCA in CF.
  23. Hadn't kept tabs on Velazquez but it was nice to see him flashing some power at KC. 14 dongs in 147 PAs.
  24. No - they get to keep 460M for 10 years but have to payout 680. In this scenario 460 is PD value of $680 10 years from now.
