  1. Yep. Van Dyck reporting the same. Link
  2. I really like Len and Bob. Listening to them talking BAbip and run expectancy in particular base/out states was fantastic.
  3. Just thinking the same thing! Refreshing to see a LD of his wind up somewhere other than a defenders mitt.
  4. True enough. Duerson was just the first thing I thought of when I heard that detail.
  5. Reports are indicating that he shot himself in the chest. I'm pretty sure he meant a brain trauma leading to the suicide/depression/etc angle. I realize that; Dave Duerson did the same thing so that his brain could be preserved for study. We'll have to see how this plays out.

  7. Not sure if this has been posted, but Gordon Wittenmeyer is reporting that moving LaHair to the OF in order to accommodate Rizzo is being discussed within the organization. Link The scenario Wittenmeyer presents is one of moving DeJesus to CF and putting LaHair in RF. Soriano-DeJesus-LaHair could be a pretty brutal OF defense, although to be fair, I think this particular idea is mostly speculation on Wittenmeyer's part.
  8. As of inning 5, Jackson (4-4) has boosted his slash stats to a robust .269/.367/.462. 3 of those hits came off a lefty. Edit: Coming up in the 6th with 2 out and the bases loaded.
  9. The front appears to be moving through rather quickly with nothing to speak of in its wake. I think it will come down to the condition of the field itself.
  10. Yep, with the obvious caveat of limited ABs. PA AB BA OBP SLG OPS vs RHP as LHB 1009 910 .251 .314 .368 .682 vs LHP as LHB 228 200 .290 .373 .440 .813
  11. First half of (14 games): @Reds(3), Dodgers(3), Braves(3), @Brewers(3), @cardinals(2) Second half of (14 games): Phils(2), White Sox(3), @Astros(3), @Pirates(3), Padres(3) First 14 look pretty brutal. Latter half should be more manageable. Cubs would have to go 18-10 in May to break 0.500. My (optimistic) prediction: 15-13, putting us at 0.451.
  12. BABIP has decided on Stewart, Soto, and Soriano instead. LaHair creeps into their bedrooms and steals their BAbip in the night.
  13. As TT alluded to above, the big reasons for Stewart's struggles are a high GB/FB (1.00 in 2012, 0.60 for his career excluding 2012) and a ridiculously low BA on LD. MLB is hitting .709 on LD so far in 2012, while Stewart is hitting a paltry .364. The first is a big deal because Stewart has always had a below average BA on ground balls (~40 to 60% of MLB average, with the exception of 2010), so the more GB he hits, the more likely his is to have a very low BAbip. This season's high ratio may have something to do with a swing adjustment, but it's too early to say for certain. The second point is important for obvious reasons, and it is possible that defensive alignments have taken a few of those liners away from Stewart. In fact, over the previous three seasons (2009-2011) his batting average on balls he pulls has dipped from .463 to .432 to .300. Early in 2012, he's hitting just .136 on balls he pulls. His declining offensive numbers may be partially a matter of teams adjusting to his hitting tendencies, but bad luck is definitely a factor as well. Despite his awful season last year, his BA on LD wound up slightly above league average. Couple this season's rebound in LD% with a regression to career BA on LD numbers, and Stewart should rebound.
  14. Oh my god, what if they became the '71 Twins?! Manuel would be forced to pinch hit for himself, TEARING THE FABRIC OF SPACE-TIME!!
  15. Cubs win. Congratulations on accumulating your first of a meaningless stat, Rafi. http://worldfamousdesignjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Raphael-TMNT.png
  16. That happens all the time on MLB The Show. Yep! I hit 2 triples in the same game with Clevenger thanks to that! Nerds.
  17. Non-save situations are lovely. [expletive] LOVELY.
  18. Big time. I can't believe a guy with that kind of movement on his fastball has only 2 K in 11.1 IP.
  19. Just noticed that Paul Maholm has drawn more walks (1) than he has surrendered (0) over the first six innings. Weird.
  20. Lineups: Cubs David DeJesus, RF Tony Campana, CF Starlin Castro, SS Bryan LaHair, 1B Alfonso Soriano, LF Ian Stewart, 3B Darwin Barney, 2B Geovany Soto, C Paul Maholm, P Phils Juan Pierre, LF Placido Polanco, 3B Jimmy Rollins, SS Hunter Pence, RF Shane Victorino, CF Ty Wigginton, 1B Carlos Ruiz, C Freddy Galvis, 2B Roy Halladay, P Also, does juan pierre have an abnormally tiny head, or does he purchase his hats at a costume shop? http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/mlb/players/full/4486.png&w=350&h=254
