  1. from what i've read, the carter/hartnell thing was BS that originated from a site known to spew garbage rumors.
  2. Theriot is not going to be the difference in this season. He could be. Like Rob said, the difference between him and his likely replacement would be about 1-2 wins over a full season. We could easily finish 1-2 games out of a playoff spot. Is it likely? Probably not, but it's very possible, and we need all the help we can get to make the playoffs in 2009.
  3. lol @ outshooting them 47-14 it really sucks that we lost, but it's really good to see them dominate the hell out of these assholes once again. as of right now i feel really really good aobut the hawks chances against the sharks if they meet in the playoffs (it might be asking too much of the sharks to not choke in the first 2 rounds though)
  4. yeah troy just keep taking penalties
  5. oh look, huet went down way too early again
  6. well you got the first one right...
  7. Some posts from a Sharks board
  8. thats not a penalty
  9. ugh toews. this is the most furstrating game of the year i think
  10. i hate playing against the sharks just because it reminds me how much sicker our team would be with boyle instead of soupy
  11. good job sharp. nice meltdown
  12. hahahahahahahaha
  13. who was it that turned it over that set up the shorty? i turned it on right as it was happening. lemme guess... here are my top choices campbell barker versteeg id be shocked if it wasnt one of those guys
  14. [expletive] this [expletive] dominating and down 2-0
  15. and about 3000 more shot wide
  16. okay, if we don't put one in the net on this pp i'm going to break something
  17. should be up like 2-0 right now
  18. damn... dominating right now even though it's 0-1
  19. Unless nobody else could afford to trade for an expensive pitcher in 2010. then they should have just kept him. did they HAVE to dump salary this offseason? either way, i find it hard to believe nobody else was willing to take on that 13 mil for vazquez.
  20. how are people saying this is anything other than an awful, awful trade for the braves? vazquez was a top 5 pitcher in the NL last season and they get a mediocre cf and a reliever? i understand they get salary relief, but wow. there's no reason they shouldn't have gotten much better talent back to go with that salary relief.
  21. for the team it's about winning the world series. ultimately, a gm can't control what his team does in the playoffs. all he does is build a team and then hope they perform when it matters. if the 2008 cubs had shown up for the playoffs and won the world series, would that have meant jim hendry had built a better team? no, it still would have been the same team he built. let me ask you something. who deserves more credit- walt jocketty for building the 2006 cards (won 83 games, but also the world series) jim hendry for building the 2008 cubs (97 wins, swept in the first round) ? Which season would you rather take as a fan? that has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation
  22. According to the going rate for free agent WAR, yes. so you're saying he was worth 3/32, but it doesn't justify 3/21? im confused
  23. the bulls took the court
  24. Over the length of the contract he was worth roughly 32 million. you say that like it's a proven fact those fangraph figures can be useful and fun to look at, but come on. maruis was a league average starter with the cubs. a league average starter is not worth 3/32 The contract was 3/21. I'm not justifying the contract, 3 years was pretty boneheaded, but Marquis held up his end of it. 7 million a year, like it or not, is pretty normal for a league average pitcher. you just said he was worth 32 over those 3 years. do you believe that, or not?
