  1. how are people saying this is anything other than an awful, awful trade for the braves? vazquez was a top 5 pitcher in the NL last season and they get a mediocre cf and a reliever? i understand they get salary relief, but wow. there's no reason they shouldn't have gotten much better talent back to go with that salary relief.
  2. for the team it's about winning the world series. ultimately, a gm can't control what his team does in the playoffs. all he does is build a team and then hope they perform when it matters. if the 2008 cubs had shown up for the playoffs and won the world series, would that have meant jim hendry had built a better team? no, it still would have been the same team he built. let me ask you something. who deserves more credit- walt jocketty for building the 2006 cards (won 83 games, but also the world series) jim hendry for building the 2008 cubs (97 wins, swept in the first round) ? Which season would you rather take as a fan? that has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation
  3. According to the going rate for free agent WAR, yes. so you're saying he was worth 3/32, but it doesn't justify 3/21? im confused
  4. the bulls took the court
  5. Over the length of the contract he was worth roughly 32 million. you say that like it's a proven fact those fangraph figures can be useful and fun to look at, but come on. maruis was a league average starter with the cubs. a league average starter is not worth 3/32 The contract was 3/21. I'm not justifying the contract, 3 years was pretty boneheaded, but Marquis held up his end of it. 7 million a year, like it or not, is pretty normal for a league average pitcher. you just said he was worth 32 over those 3 years. do you believe that, or not?
  6. And he's three years older and the economic climate is significantly different than three years ago. And 39 is a hell of a lot ERA+ points. The Marquis contract with the Cubs was pee your pants hilarious. Over the length of the contract he was worth roughly 32 million. you say that like it's a proven fact those fangraph figures can be useful and fun to look at, but come on. maruis was a league average starter with the cubs. a league average starter is not worth 3/32
  7. the nats have paid 21 million dollars this offseason for 2 years of jason marquis and pudge rodriguez

  9. Five years ago, you could still believe in wins as a stat and simply be considered behind the times. But if you don't have some sort of evidence that you were in a coma, monastary, or frozen Encino Man style, we have to assume that you're choosing to remain ignorant rather than attempt intelligent conversation. Stop wasting our time. Sorry, Rob. But you and your confused ilk have yet to provide any stat that is more important than wins for a starting pitcher, especially one that is paid over $18 million a year. What's more important WHIP? Other stats have importance but not to the degree of wins. Your expectations seem quite low and indicative of your understanding. what disability do you have?
  10. yeah, dave's post was obtuse again, but you can't say a gm is judged by whether or not they own the WS. he can't control that. all he can control is the team he puts on the field. once the playoffs start, there's nothing he can do.hendry doesn't deserve less credit for the 2008 cubs just because they failed to show up for the playoffs. that's not on him.
  11. there's a difference between not wanting to come out and being a dick about. childress is the head coach, not brett favre. it's his call. brad childress is dumb, but he's the coach
  12. benchwarmer perhaps you should sit this one out
  13. LOL that picture is amazing. I want it to be my desktop background I can't figure out how to save it since it's with flashplayer. If anyone knows how, let me know. I did email the DMN to see if I could have a copy since...it's me, [expletive]! just do a screenshot
  14. His last two games' ratings: 79.4 and 73.2. Crappy in comparison to the rest of his games this season and compared to what so many QB's are doing this season. no. they are just flat out crappy by any standards.
  15. 3 straight "meh" games for Favre. Not bad. 30 45 275 2/2 completions/attempts/yards/td/int 17 30 192 1/1 16 24 161 0/0 the only one you could argue wasnt crap was the first one, and that's only if you didn't actually see the game. he tried to throw like 8 picks that night. the last 2 were just crap.
  16. this is 3 straight crap games for favre
  17. also, wtf happened to greg olsen? he is trash right now
  18. i've felt like since the san jose game they haven't been playing that well, yet they've still won 6 of their last 7. awesome
  19. hahahahahahahahahahah
  20. Except for the key points that are completely wrong, like Milton not owning up to when he performed poorly or not being able to play with the pressure of what was going on. He may have been playing better but he was certainly losing it. There is just no way that Milton Bradley can make it thru a season at wrigley, even if he was putting up sosa-like numbers. Some people are just drawn toward chaos. last season bradley had like the worst year of his career, and he still would have "made it through the season" just fine if our gm hadn't suspended him. I wouldn't call what he had done "making it through the season just fine." He had most of the fanbase seeing red over his comments made that led to his suspension. He was having a bad season and didn't own up to it whatsoever. how did the fact that fans were mad at bradley hurt the cubs?
