  1. I like the start of Encarnacion being thrown under the bus as well. God it's amazing how many good players the Reds have that Dusty is going to despise because he's Dusty.
  2. This is being addressed in the predictions thread started by Laura. Not sure that this is necessary.
  3. I'm thinking that Lou is trying to ease Soriano into the #5 spot in the lineup, where he belongs. I'm calling this too optimistic. Soriano will be right back in the leadoff spot once his legs are "100%," whatever the hell that means.
  4. Hopefully plenty of saves too. You just quoted the guy who already made your argument but executed it better. So well, in fact, that you missed it. You missed the fact that I was correcting a mistake of his. I can't tell if you're joking or not. Well, I wasn't, but now that I read the 1st post I guess I should say I was. I never completely read the original post. I see what he was saying now. Yikes
  5. Worrying about spring training W/L is almost as pointless and nonsensical as making personnel decisions based on spring training results
  6. Shh don't ask questions he might change his mind
  7. If I remember correctly, after the first couple of ST games last year Lou got mad that they weren't playing good fundamental baseball Oh. Okay so they're both idiots.

  9. Meh on errors. He gets a lot more chances than Theriot and while he does botch routine plays, his bigger number of chances makes for a bigger number of errors. CubbieBum, you are in over your head. You are new here and you are making tired arguments that just don't fly here. No one save for DeuceBaseman probably agrees with what you've said here. So take a step back and read some other threads and try FJM. The way to evaluate players changed with this little book called Moneyball that everyone worth anything on here endorses. Old-timey attributes like speed, batting average, RBI, runs etc aren't the way to evaluate a player - they are a way to overvalue him. And given that Theriot only demonstrates two of these meaningless attributes with any proficiency doesn't help your case. To the person who suggested that arguing with new members who are clueless and somewhat set in their ways is useless (Constable?), I think it kind of worked in the case of LLF. Plus it's fun.
  10. There was also this guy named Johan something.
  11. Ozzie and Lou are not doing the same thing. Lou called his players out during the season, during meaningful games, while Ozzie is an idiot.
  12. This. They'll still be pretty good, though. That said, I wish Davis the best.
  13. Tired of practically losing all their spring training games, Guillen had a close door meeting with his players last week, and really let them have it. Eventhough it's only spring training, Ozzie didn't want them to get into the habit of losing. Lou Piniella did the same thing with the Cubs last year in spring training, although for the Cubs and Sox there has been different results. The Cubs after Lou's tirade went on a winning streak whereas the White Sox continue to lose games.
  14. Given that Vitters is on there, I don't think the list is saying that at all.
  15. Carlos Gomez can't hit. I don't want him on my fantasy team in any capacity, aside from the SBs.
  16. I actually quite like this suggestion. That freaky laugh would be great. However here is my pick ... One Step Closer by Linkin Park. Has a killer rip on it and has the part where they say "Shutup" over and over again that could be the lyrics part. Them being from Chicago is also a pretty cool bonus. Maybe since they are form Chicago they would give permission to change the "Shutup when I'm talking to you" part to "Shutup when I'm pitching to you." That would unique and absolutely phenomenal for a closer intro. Here's a link to the video for those who can't remember the song. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2114085933693353892&q=one+step+closer&total=9457&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 And for those of you who didn't see, a Tribune blog was written about this the other day. Here's a link: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/help-wood-pick.html Yes and this Tribune blog has in no way been been included or directly cited in almost all of our posts.
  17. I can come pretty close. I set up some boxes once at about that height (after i saw those videos), just knicked them with my shoe. I can also touch an 8' ceiling with my elbow (I'm 5'7"). /bragging about my short-guy hops I'm 5'9". As a teenager, I could come close to hitting my head on the bottom of a basketball rim. I'm not sure if I ever did better than a 48" vertical leap. My hands aren't big enough to palm a ball, so I had to dunk with two hands. I had my first knee surgery at 20. I'm not sure if anyone's ever done better than a 48" vertical leap. I know that you are in love with yourself but please spare the rest of us.
  18. That's not really "crap." He's just saying he likes the team's defense, and that's a good thing. This isn't like when Hendry said he wanted to find players who can "catch the ball." I don't see any reason to jump on Lou for this comment. Defense is a huge part of preventing runs. This sounds like something John Madden would say Why? Preventing runs is about defense and pitching. Lots of people overlook the "defense" part of that. Seriously? Others combine the two as part of "defense" and your statement comes out sounding like "run prevention is the key to preventing runs" or "the team who scores the most points will probably win this game."

  20. I think a major factor is that while our core hitters are leaving their prime years, the Brewers core hitters are only just approaching theirs. Adding Gallardo (assuming he comes back fine in mid april), Parra, and Villanueva to the rotation for a full year in place of Vargas and Capuano should be a big improvement from within. They are also adding about 2 months of a very good hitter by having Braun for a full year. They also signed a decent centerfielder, which allows them to improve the defense a bit, by moving a natural infielder back to the infield and getting Braun in a spot where his lack of defensive prowess will hurt them the least. I still think the Cubs take the division, but I think it will be a very heated competition. love this.
  21. Just their entire farm system :D Seriously, though, while Brandon Wood might hit for enormous power, given his terrible defense he is way too expensive. Remember we were looking at Willits to back up Pie but Willits for even Marquis would be a horrendous trade for the Cubs (unless they paid his contract in full, which wouldn't happen)
  22. It's not a race thing. Ronny was thrown out advancing to second base on a walk. That shows a lack of baseball I.Q. And yes, that was one example, and it shouldn't be used to entirely judge him. I used it solely for illustrative purposes. Ronny's lack of baseball intelligence has also come through in his plate approach and some other baserunning gaffes as well. Yes, but it seems that Lou really overvalues this. Just look at his knee-jerk reaction to Murton's numerous miscues.
  23. i'm thinking that ronny will be hard-pressed to hit 40 doubles and 35 homers if allowed to play all year. call it a hunch. Yeah, I didn't deserve that. I said "8 spot" as in, if it means it knocks Theriot out of the leadoff spot and puts a guy who is a sure bet to slug better in the 8 spot, is it a good thing for the Cubs? Where in that post did I say that Cedeno would duplicate Soriano's numbers? Just snark for the sake of snark there.
  24. So the Dbacks will have the best record in the NL in your scenario?
