  1. just funny-lookin...more'n most people, even
  2. Ja, but it's only with funny-lookin ones
  3. How is Wells considered a better NFL prospect than Moreno? He has more mileage on him and has shown an almost complete inability to stay healthy for a full season.
  4. You're right. Being the best running back in the country is meaningless. Remember, like you said no national champion in the last 10 years has had a 1,000 yard rusher. Wait, how many times did you backtrack on that? It's much more impressive to throw slip screens 1-yard in front of the line of scrimmage (or 8 yard ducks to guys who are fass) all year than it is to be the guy to stop on an offense and still get over 6 yards per carry and 100 yards every week. Dude were not saying based on his numbers he had an amazing year...heisman is not decided by just players numbers it's based on the [expletive] media, There team being one of the top ranked teams, Then the numbers You can't write like this and call ANYONE [expletive]
  5. Sean Gallagher is a table scrap? Considering what you usually have to give up to get an ace caliber pitcher via trade, yes. You mean considering what you have to give up to get an ace caliber pitcher who is constantly hurt. It's notl ike we traded for Sabathia. Anyways, it doesn't matter. The player you're trading for doesn't change what a player is. Gallagher is a not a "table scrap" in any situation. Just to be clea,r I liked the trade. I'm just saying Gallagher is not a table scrap. So you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. I like Gallagher, too, but the fact of the matter is that he didn't have a future with the Cubs so by giving him up we didn't give up any value. He was, for all intents and purposes, one of three spare parts we gave up for an outstanding young pitcher. With all due respect to his Dad or whatever, I reiterate, table scraps. Wait, so Gallagher didn't have any value when we traded him? There's one very big flaw of what you're saying. Just because Gallagher doesn't fit into our future in your mind, that doesn't mean we "didn't give up any value". Think aobut it. That really makes no sense. Of course he has value, and the fact that we got Harden with him is pretty much proof of that. He has value through trades. If we didn't trade him for Harden, we could have traded him for somebody else. That's his value. Plus he'd be a decent option as our number 5 starter right now, so I don't know how you can say he didn't have a future with the Cubs. It's not like he was a catcher being blocked by Soto. He was a starting pitcher. You always have a future with a any team. Again, I liked the trade, but it's obvious we had to give up something good to get Harden. This is expected. Gallagher was our best pitching prospect at the time and basically the noyl good one we had left. How can you say that he had no value? I didn't say he didn't have any value at all, I said he didn't have value to the Cubs major league team as it was assembled, and I stand by that. We already had a long man and Gallagher was going to get under-utilized in spot starts and cleanup duty, IMO. And my original point stands, too. Hendry gets big kudos from me for getting one of the best pitchers available (along with a guy who may fill Gallagher's role and even exceed his small contributions to the club) without affecting our everyday lineup or rotation. Win.

  7. Hendry traded table scraps for Rich Harden. He can [expletive] my sister
  8. Can he be :banned: now so I can go to sleep?
  9. Oh my God we have a challenger to Meph's throne of arrogance
  10. I think those who have refused to hear any new perspective on baseball that doesn't jibe with what they learned 30 years ago need to grow down, or something
  11. Is Vance not allowed to post content with words in it or something?
  12. Just to clarify on this, this is stated by Olney in the context of an article regarding Manny Ramirez, who he might sign with, and why the cubs aren't candidates. Perhaps the Cubs truly are "maxed out", and can't even afford a lefty reliever, much less Bradley or manny. But it may also be that they don't have $$ for manny ("maxed out"), but do still have enough discretionary flexibility to add lesser contract(s). There is no room for your level-headedness and rational thinking in this thread
  13. I suppose if any team could do this, it would be the Cobs...
  14. Definitely not. He's the definition of untouchable for the O's. If Tampa called and said they would trade David Price straight up for him I am sure the O's would do it. I doubt it. Seems like they severely overvalue their players. They'd probably ask for Upton too This may be true, but an argument can be made that Tampa overvalues theirs even more. And probably for good reason. This doesn't make sense. It's not an over-evaluation if it's justified. For the record, I think Hermida is overvalued and should be traded to us for spare parts :ninja:
  15. Maybe i'm a little slow, but it looks like you just argued that Dunn "extends the possibility for creating an out" by "not making an out." This is a problematic argument, and it makes me question your belief in the importance of OBP if you are so worried about the DP. It sounds like you are advocating "Dusty-izing" Dunn in this specific situation, a.k.a. making contact for the sake of making contact, putting the ball in play, grinding it out, *insert tired, irrelevant baseball cliche here* This is not Dunn's game, NOR SHOULD IT BE. Making Dunn more aggressive in this situation means he chases pitches he doesn't like and handcuffs himself and his awesome power. His game is to crush the mistakes and let the ones he can't do anything with go by, and this shouldn't change even in this scenario. He's never been a high BA guy or a move the runner over guy and his numbers reflect this. And enough about his speed, please. The man is a solid base-runner with plenty of meaningless steals to his credit and I would say 98.73% of the time the DP is the batter's fault, not the runner's (notable exceptions include catchers and Paul Konerko). Put him at the top of the order in front of other guys who crush the ball and this isn't an issue. When simpletons like Dusty bat him 7th, it sure as hell is. Welcome to the forum and I believe I may like the cut of your jib.
  16. Only if David Price disappoints. Of course it's possible, it's just not all that likely
  17. did they institute a "no full-backs in the 4th quarter" rule in the CFL this year or something? Wonderful.
  18. I would not call Ichiro an average defender unless his arm regresses quite a bit. P.S. Is this Ichiro in center or Ichiro in right? Like I said, theres been a lot of discussion on how UZR rates Ichiro, but its good to know you wouldn't call in an average defender. This is a combo of CF and RF Ichiro. That was unnecessarily snotty, ryandilon
  19. It really is. IIRC, Dunn has a pretty strong arm to make up for no range and Pat the bat has absolutely nothing going for him out there. There is a reason they call him Pat the bat and it's not because he drives in runs with his glove Burrell has one of the best OF arms in the game. But, he still has terrible range and defense and would probably be horrible in RF. For real? I did not know this. So does that make him more serviceable than Dunn out there?

  22. I didn't want Ibanez at all. But if the Rays can convince Bradley to go there, the Phillies get Ibanez, the White Sox get Abreu, does that leave us Dunn? I know the Rays are the flavor of the month, but if given similar offers, I cant see Bradley chosing the Rays over the Cubs. You never know what the season will bring, but Im guessing that the Rays had their chance, and the Yanks and Sawx are going to resume their dominance over the division. What in the good Lord's name makes you think that? You say that about old teams, not the youngest, most talented team in baseball with the strongest farm.
