  1. Been doing that for a couple of years now... Oh, you mean Prior
  2. The legitimate point he made was that they decided to show him running slowly as a gag rather than show a legitimate highlight that summed up the game. The writer missed it, too. Unfortunately, he also made a point that it was mean-spirited even though he agreed with the general sentiment. That really hurts his case, but the above shouldn't be overlooked. Especially by the writer of the article. ETA: Hell, he even did kinda paraphrase Benji's point and didn't give him credit for it! "I didn't even think the ESPN knew there was baseball on the west coast." Duh, dude. That's exactly what the guy was trying to say, only he couldn't come right out and say it.
  3. Also, the comments on the original article are hi-larious
  4. Hanley is awesome in more ways than I thought possible. I don't like that he dogged it, but I like that he's not at all modest about his (baseball) awesomeness.
  5. i kind of feel like that about when i was at game 5 of the NLCS when the cubs went up 3-1 in the series. the stadium was all cubs fans and at the time, we thought we had basically just won the pennant and were going to the world series. i'll never forget what the place was like after the game. the tunnels were completely swarming with cubs fans just yelling and high fiving everyone that walked past. people were doing the hop/high five thing that sosa/alou/lofton did in the outfield after wins too. it was completely insane. craziest sports moment of my life, even though it ended up being meaningless. This is so angsty and stupid and just flat-out wrong. I swear, some Cubs fans don't deserve a WS. this doesn't even really make sense. are you telling me how i feel about that season? or are you saying that the horrible collapse after game 4 didn't take away any of the impact that the previous games had? I'm saying it isn't rendered meaningless by what happened in the following games. You were there, you and everyone else were elated by what was going on. I don't see why this should be something negative in your memory. It's certainly not meaningless. You were lucky to be there, in that moment. Your current evaluation of this memory is most definitely angsty, in my opinion.

  7. I want to know what Santo is worse at - broadcasting or being healthy. Maybe this needs a poll
  8. Right now it's screaming out to right center. Wind out of the SSW at 24 mph per noaa.gov
  9. There are 2 on the current team. How dare you interrupt my hyperbole with facts!!! And Ronny Cedeno is waving to you from Pittsburgh! Bobby Crosby and Ronny Cedeno up the middle is so damn unbelievable and funny to me.
  10. That was me. My bad. Speaking of people who have disappeared, whatever happened to mlpeel? Bwhahah that was you? And now your avatar is of a baby. Awesome. Wow dude Maybe I didn't understand him, or maybe it wasn't him, but someone made fun of me and someone else for having our kids in our sigs. I thought it was him that did, but maybe it was him that was also made fun of. It just seemed very obviously sarcastic (and unfunny) to me. Even though he is Erik, that sounds more like something Mizzou or maybe Cynosure would do.

  12. Good post. This is pretty much exactly how I feel about Hendry.
  13. The bold text is completely false. You had a few people here gung-ho for Lou, but most were vehemently opposed against hiring him even when it was just being suggested before Dusty was actually gone. When Lou was got hired the general consensus beyond those fanatical few was basically "at least he's not Joe Girardi/it could be worst" in terms of being positive. Really? I guess I wasn't quite here then, but I find this kind of hard to believe. Who else did people want?
  14. That's how it was with Heyward at Braves' (Cubs) opening day. Then he hit a 3-run HR in his first major league PA. It was awesome.* *Not as awesome as Castro's
  15. no he was the general manager of the chicago white stockings in 1912 WELL NOW I'M REALLY CONFUSED
  16. Guessing that Scott GF was a poster during the 2006 season who insisted we could rebound from about 20 games under .500 and somehow back into the playoffs. Am I close?
  17. I picture Stuart Scott saying this, but I don't think he's capable of saying something so funny. Rocket kinda beat me, but I was gonna say that the difference between the two is that Heyward will be a perennial MVP candidate until about age 32 and Castro...won't.
  18. Your evaluation of how hard a guy is working is completely dependent on the results you've seen thus far. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you know Aramis isn't hitting because he isn't working hard. He isn't hitting because he isn't hitting. That said, I agree with this for the most part. Just don't mortgage the future on a marginal upgrade in a lost season. Use this season to work through Castro's growing pains and continue to develop the prospects. I can wait two years for us to get way younger and cheaper and hopefuly have a change of regime in the front office.
  19. Derrek starts out slowly more often than not. This is not the case for Aramis. I'm much more worried about Aramis.
  20. Oh yeah, the cool kids know this stuff is nothing but fun times. Did I say anywhere that I condoned the kid's actions? I'm only addressing the ridiculous overreactions in the thread. And whether or not you agree with the cop's decision, the use of a taser in this situation ended up being completely counter-productive. It got the kid the recognition he was looking for (actually a lot more than he could have reasonably expected) and it encouraged a copycat the next night. The use of the taser stopped him. I'm pretty sure that's all the guy was thinking about doing. I'm also pretty sure that most of these responses have been purposefully over the top. I doubt most people actually want snipers and beatings and all the rest. Well that is a relief
