Not sure why this is surprising. Out of all pro athletes, MLB guys are the worst with NBA a close second. Who said anything about it being surprising? I don't see that word used.

Yeah, I'm not even claiming to be "right" about him. I always acknowledged my irrationality when it came to Javy. Besides, he could still, you know... He's still a volatile guy, and it'll take more than a couple awesome weeks to trust that he's settled into some nice equilibrium. Anyway, my attitude was always I wanted him to either make it or bust with the Cubs.

I was vehemently against trading Javy because I always felt that we'd never get enough in return to offset the upside + fun factor (I've wanted Cards fans to hate him ever since he screamed "I can do whatever the horsefeathers I want" at the Angels rookie ball team back in the day). I especially felt queasy whenever the talk turned to trading him for a stupid horsefeathering pitcher or some horsefeathers like that. I've always been & always will be a Javy homer.
