  5. Jesus, if it's that much of a slog, and that difficult to make money at this racket, I can only hope the saintly Ricketts family can sell this franchise without losing the clothes on their backs.
  6. Future Ricketts family email buddy.
  7. Go to BN if you want to see SSS discussion. Those guys are difficult for me to read anymore. Gotcha headlines with article bodies comprised of both-sides equivocation. It's hard for me to articulate how I see their product these days. Suffice it to say, I get nothing beyond news aggregation from that place. Oh, and smirks at the alt-right/Russian bots posting there. /end mini-rant
  8. ^^Nope, for me. Then again, I'm having a hard time believing Russell can be rehabilitated while remaining a highly paid pro baseball player. Seems to me the permission structure is still there for him; just mouth some platitudes & all is forgiven.

  12. 1. Javy puts up another 5 fWAR season, reminding the naysayers, who are certain he'll regress, that he can do whatever the horsefeathers he wants 2. the offense won't be the dumpster fire it was 2nd half of '18, but it'll be clear that Harper was a need, not a luxury (Schwarber improves, but Cubs outfield will still be bottom 10 in baseball in combined wRC+) 3. Cubs and Cards will be battling through the final week, making things on Cubs interwebs chippy & fun
  13. But hey, #flagsflyforever. That justifies everything.
  14. I will not cheer for billionaires becoming even richer. I can't comprehend the mindset of regular people who do. Also, not really apropos of this thread, but I recall someone asking during the 2016 post-season (maybe late regular season?) whether each fan here would trade a Trump presidency for a guaranteed Cubs WS win. What a horsefeathers -show ever since. horsefeathers the Ricketts. I can't be articulate about this, and I accept that.
  15. Happy for the return of baseball, yes. Not excited about this iteration of the Cubs (barring a surprise acquisition or two). I say this thinking the range of possible outcomes is Cubs have best record in the NL to Cubs finish 3rd in the division. Nothing in that range would surprise me.
  16. They obviously met via Snapchat group chat using super fun filters.
  17. What they know is that most fans don't bother, and plenty of fans will defend billionaire owners for everything. [tweet]https://twitter.com/megrowler/status/1089574264196325376[/tweet]
  18. Improved clubhouse? Nice. I'm sure that was what sealed the deal for the Brad Brach & Daniel Descalso signings.
  19. I'm not spiritually wedded to any naming rights convention. I just don't necessarily believe any particular revenue stream will be used for baseball operations. It's been a long time since I've believed anything owners say about finances.
  20. Owners should just cut out the middle men and do away with fielding sports teams. Instead, they can just post their quarterly financials for which fans can cheer. The amount of parroted supply-side rhetoric I see on sports fan interwebs is mind-boggling <---(no, not really, I get why it's happening).
  21. 2019 Hamels is gonna be Mike Montgomery, basically, I think.

  23. That's "do-gooder'ing, risk-taking, job-creators" to you, pal. /sarcasm font
