  1. What are you talking about, when PCA got called up on 4/24/24 the Cubs were 15-9 and you could argue his bad play contributed to them falling off from there (and then his good play in the second half helped bring them back in it). They were 71-66 and three games out of a playoff spot on September 1st.
  2. 2024 Fangraphs Top 100 Prospect List: PCA 20, Shaw 32 2025 Fangraphs Top 100 Prospect List: Shaw 13 Through 170 PAs last year (Shaw is at 167 going into today), PCA was slashing 194/241/284. Shaw is at 225/299/325. Obviously I'm not saying that we should expect a similar progression. But they were absolutely similarly regarded, Shaw is doing better at this point in his major league career, the learning curve at the MLB level is very steep, and this weird thing where Shaw's development is somehow tied to people thinking Dansby sucks in specific at bats is dumb and should stop.
  3. If only we had any evidence on hand of what happened when you let a top prospect struggle at the major league level for a few hundred PAs while providing plus defense, and how that turned ultimately turned out by the end of the year and going forward
  4. someone update the weird 'Ian Happ in the first inning' stat from a couple days ago
  5. yeah, we're going to need some strikeouts in a bad way. Nico and PCA can't get to everything.
  6. We can’t treat every game like it’s October. We’ve got 10 more games in a row after this. This is counsells calling card and it’s probably an approach that comes out ahead over six months. Yeah it’s one of those double value games but we’ve got four more of those coming up on Monday. As others have mentioned, another two games down with them not picking up any games. It’s frustrating but fine. this was also probably overdue regression from Jameson, if I can go back to my favorite dead horse. Get a starter.
  7. Didn't love the check swing call for strike two, but generally yes.
  8. The 'Hypothetical Other Bullpen Option(s)' has a career 0.00 ERA
  9. Tucker hit the ball hard four times yesterday and already once today, keep it here and I like one of those guys figuring this out.
  10. Not sure I love that Brujan PR for Busch there, have a much weaker lineup going into the 9th/extras.
  11. Michael Busch is pretty clearly the second best hitter on this team so far this year and him batting 7th is probably the biggest lineup issue.
  12. lol seriously. currently on pace to score 865, which would have been second in baseball last year. but yes, terrible offense.
  13. He could not play a game the rest of the year and have the 37th best season over that time stretch. If he maintains this pace, at the ASB it'll be the 15th best season in the last 30 years.
  14. Feel like there's been a pretty clear directive to just Throw Strikes. Over that stretch referenced above we're only 25th in K rate, but we're 2nd in BB rate. 8th in BABIP, which implies some luck but our defense is good so I'm comfortable projecting continued upper half performance there. We have the lowest HR/FB rate in that stretch, so you'll have to expect we'll come back down to earth on that a little bit, and we are stranding guys at a very unsustainable pace. FIP and xFIP are both still top 6, but ERA is first by almost a run. Basically, we've metrically performed like a very good bullpen, and results wise performed like Mariano Rivera. Hopefully when we fall back to very good (or, given the grab bag nature of bullpens, somewhere around average), the offense bounces back or Shota/new starter improve the rotation, or we're just so far ahead it doesn't really matter.
  15. Catching up on replays now and for some reason on the Seiya HR had big flashbacks to the Aramis walkoff against the Brewers 20(?) years ago. Same spot of the field, similar follow through, same opponent. Anyone else see it?
  16. 5 innings, 2 earned runs and the win from the newest member of the Iowa Cubs rotation (kidding, a little bit. but this team rocks)
  17. You're like, thisclose to getting my point.
  18. K rate, Walk Rate, HR/9 Rate, BABIP, LOB%, GB%, HR/FB% Brown is on top.
  19. Guys Colin Rea is in the rotation, we have bigger problems than the guy with the 3.43 FIP
