I trust the people who are saying Pivetta has gotten some pitches, but from my couch I think we've gotten the favorable side of the umpires calls all around today.
I'd like him too, to get through Machado, Merrill, Boegarts. Then you can go lefty for the bottom. But I think it's always tricky making a reliever sit on the bench for an extended period.
There's a little bit of BABIP luck back in our direction. Need to start putting the ball in play and not trying to take 96 at the belt into the bleachers.
You've got to face Tatis and Machado two more times (hopefully not three). There's already a guy on, might as well maximize your chances on this trip through.
Like Palencia here. Would have let Boyd take his chances with 2 on and nobody out, but hopefully Palencia gets you through Tatis and Machado and you have Pomeranz ready to deal with the lefty heavy bottom of the order.
Boyd has been fine enough besides the pitch to Bogaerts but he's just not getting the Ks (as has been the trend lately) and I don't know if you want to fight both BABIP and third time through the order penalty.
If Pivetta can keep that fastball at the top of the zone (or above), he's going to be tough. If it starts coming down to the middle of the zone, there's a few guys that can definitely take advantage.
In his little rant it seems like he thought there was already one out, which makes the go on contact play a little more defensible. It's dumb how rare it is that other announcers in the booth feel comfortable correcting the other guy, and probably even more rare in a national broadcast setting where the broadcast team doesn't have as much rapport.
Yes. I've talked myself into a corner that any particular AB, game, regular season series really doesn't matter much, just ride the up and down waves, enjoy what you can.
Three game series? Every at bat is stupidly crucial.
Alcantara on the roster probably means they're open to pinch hitting for PCA should the opportunity come up, especially now that him and Busch are pretty far apart in the lineup.
I don't mind the idea of an opener for Shota tomorrow to give him a little length, think the poster in the other thread mentioned Civale but I might lean more to Soroka given his experience in pre-game preparation.
