    In any other situation after like, 2016, not having Crawford has pretty much been a death sentence (if they weren't already dead with him). With this coin flip of a playoff, who knows. Probably 45/55 against the Oilers...any longer series after that is going to tilt pretty heavily against a Crawford-less Hawks.

    Now that we're all past the incredible weirdness that is no baseball, it is incredibly weird that there's going to be essentially a pennant chase free for all starting in 10 days.

    Surely that means the Hawks series will be played in Edmonton, meaning it will be similar to having home ice for the Oilers Thought I remembered reading something a while ago about how no team would play in their own city to avoid something like this (and even playing into why they needed more than one city). Things are changing all the time, so that could definitely not be the case, but I think if those are the two cities, we'd be playing in Toronto.

    I'm no expert either, but I am a childhood leukemia survivor myself. I've always heard that the long term effects of chemo aren't really understood yet (maybe they are more now....I'm about 25 years removed from treatment). But, I personally haven't experienced getting sick at an increased level. Colds maybe a couple times a year (usually due to proximity of children), never got the flu. Covid is a different animal though. Got it, appreciate the insight. Would also wonder if there's a difference in terms of when you went through cancer/chemo....as a child, your immune system is still developing, getting stronger. Going through cancer at 19 (Rizzo) or 22 (Lester) when there isn't much growing to do could be different. To your experience, I can't remember either Rizzo or Lester battling illness at any point (more of a KB thing) so maybe it's not really something to worry about.

    This could definitely come off as ignorant, because it's basically just secondhand knowledge, but it's my understanding that extended chemo does some long term damage to your immune system and leaves you more susceptible to catching colds, flus, and something like COVID.

    Something I hadn't really considered, and given that we haven't heard anything about it yet means probably nothing to worry about, but....Lester and Rizzo are both high risk right? Joe Ross and Ryan Zimmerman from the Nats just opted out, and Mike Leake for Arizona is also opting out.

    Happ seems criminally underutilized in the 9 spot, but beyond that I'm too rusty to put together my own just yet. Also I know AL teams are generally hesitant to use a catcher in the DH spot unless they are carrying three catchers, as much as I like the idea of getting Willson out from behind the plate. Not sure what the roster rules are for this year, might be pretty easy to pick up/carry a third one. 2nd leadoff hitter with the OBP for when KB/Rizzo come back around, has contact guys in front of him that are behind OBP guys and we aren’t stacking all the lower contact guys in order with him 9. But anywhere from 7-9 I’m cool with him hitting in most lineups. I’m almost certain we (and most other teams) will carry 3 catchers with the expanded rosters as I’ve seen the expanded roster talk, think that would be Phagley for us. It makes a lot of sense to get Willy DH time to keep him fresh and since Vic is more than capable and better with framing. Forgot about Phegley, good call. Still think Happ should be a little higher (Heyward in the 5 spot against RHPs really doesn't look right to me), but can see your arguments too.

    oh my god i completely forgot that we're going bryzzo at the top. seems like so long ago. hell yes, these lineups fornicate.     8 teams per league seems like they'd be going to a straight bracket format, which is weird because I think the one game playoffs have been pretty well regarded. I guess, in a four division format, the four wild cards could go into 2 one game playoffs, winners playing the worst two division winners in three game series, and then those winners playing the top two division series. Adding that much would probably mean they'd have to shorten the season, but would probably drive the playoff ratings they're looking for. If you're going to go 16 teams, that'd be my preferred route. Edit: The 'second' round could also be one game playoffs, to cut down on the down time. And if we're making wishes, the higher seeds in all these formats would get to pick their opponents.

    Yep, probably naive to be optimistic at this point, but proposing 60 games just seems like a 'come meet us in the middle and wrap this up' move. 60 games in 70 days is, I think, more days off than they would normally get, so pretty easy to fit in 66 games, as mentioned above.

    Derwood, read the room. I'm clarifying, because I know jack and horsefeathers about the draft and signings and how it all works. Which is fine, especially in this weird year, but by the time you asked there were about 20 posts talking about where he would slot in to our system, how he is going to rank, etc. with minimal to no discussion on signability concerns. Mostly just giving you a hard time, but....come on, pick up some context.

    The normal % of most prep kids picked in the 1st round, close to 0%. 0% chance he signs, or 0% chance he opts for college? Derwood, read the room.

    I think they've got like, a day or two to get this done if they still want any hope of July 4 as a start date (outside of the fact that starting this schedule on a Saturday isn't exactly ideal). I've heard at least 3 weeks of ramp up time, especially for pitchers, and you can't just snap your fingers and have everyone suddenly be at the spring training facility.

    It gives them some of what they were looking for, but ultimately you're still looking at roughly 1/3rd of the salaries for almost half the games. This new proposal seems to be abandoning the earlier strategy of winning the support/vote of the lower paid guys if they are just cutting everyone's by the same percent.

    I took the bonus once I saw a report that they committed to not raising any season ticket prices for next year. We sell most of our tickets and family/friends anyways, so if for some reason we really needed the cash the rest of this calendar year, could probably just get some people to pay in advance for 2021 tickets. If the full season eventually follows suit, I'd be looking at around $400 of bonus credit. Free playoff game at some point.

    To add on to the Doolittle love, here's his wife summing it up pretty well. If I squint and try to adopt a player's mindset on losing that kind of money...there's a sliver I can understand. This proposal goes far beyond that group of people though.

    Love that you brought this up. That sac fly score was amazing. He probably would have been out with a lower throw but that’s the point, he caught them so off guard that a throw was rushed and he scored. No one's ever asked him to my knowledge but I'd bet my life Jones only decided to send him when he could tell Davis wasn't planning a throw. Obviously we know what Davis did at the plate, but man was he (and the rest of the outfield) a disaster in the field for them. You can even point to the last AB, and having by far their worst hitter at the plate because they had to bring him in for defensive purposes.

    We aren't anywhere close to cancelling the full season. We're definitely going to have an abbreviated season (maybe ~120 games?) in MLB. The NBA season might be over and they go straight into the playoffs when they resume playing. I'm positive Rob Manfred will wait as long as possible before cancelling an entire MLB season. I think I need to see public knowledge of how this hopefully works get better before I agree. People are going to see the numbers exploding and are going to freak out. Games were canceled when there were 1300 cases...in a couple weeks, optimistically, there's going to be tens, maybe hundreds of thousands. Ideally the curve flattens, but I don't know how you message going back to large group gatherings when the numbers get up to that point.

    I wonder how close we are to the whole season getting canceled. This thing isn't just going to go away, all those charts about flattening the curve show that slowing it down extends it. Who steps up first and decides to go back to business as usual? And even then, do they restart spring training? Pitchers can't just show up and take the mound. I assume there are throwing programs, but it's impossible to ramp up to an undefined start date.
