  1. I'm hoping for at least a bracket which may not be as far fetched as you'd think because there's a sliver that the tournament could theoretically be played in a month. Maybe it's a pipe dream at this point Anyone up for some May Madness? That would be such a bizarre tournament. After 1-2 months off they all of the sudden are go back to competing in a championship tournament. It'd be tricky to pull off with seniors graduating and players declaring for the draft too.
  2. Duke just suspended all athletics, said they won't participate in the tournament if it happens, which is looking very unlikely at this point.
  3. I guess Hoiberg just had the normal flu, and got cleared to coach the next game. But I guess "will the tournament get canceled" jumped from +220 to -120 pretty quickly this morning. Going to be super weird if they even play. Probably the right decision to call it off, but it makes my Vegas trip next week a whole lot harder to justify to the wife (and 4 month old kid).
  4. NHL shutting down after tonight Edited, i stand corrected, no plans yet to shut down Think it's still coming. They told teams to cancel all practices/morning skates today. I was at the Hawks game last night and talked to a guy who spent the first period with Rocky Wirtz...said to expect an announcement today.
  5. Do we have different definitions of floor/ceiling? How is the 35th worst player in basketball, worst case scenario, a future three time 6th man of the year with a 20 year career (or a guy who averaged 22 and 20 points the last two years)?
  6. I do believe Ross is not going to him multiple chances to blow this season. Given this, who can step in as the closer? He's going to be fine guys.
  7. Ceiling*
  8. if you're gonna do that you might as well just do the reddit streams What's the best way to get that from the internet to my Roku/TV? Enough experience getting it on a computer to know how to find them on reddit.
  9. I have YoutubeTV, but also just downloaded the Marquee app. Hoping that they were going to partner with a big company that one of my friends or family used, and then would just steal their password. Probably just going to stick with that plan unless someone here tells me that it's dumb.
  10. Seriously just commit to the rebuild. We’ve tried to scrap together competitive teams for the last couple seasons and have nothing to show for it and our old core is 2 years older Kane, Toews, and Keith all have no movement clauses, and we don't know what kind of conversations have been had about their willingness to waive them. If those three stick around, at their contracts, it's pretty hard to commit to a 'full rebuild'. You hope that you hit on 'scrapping together a competitive team', and you hope that those guys, motivated by a playoff run, can still lead a team on a deep run.
  11. He was willing to sign here long term up until a few hours ago, if we are to believe the reports. And while he's had a better year than Fleury this year, I doubt he's going to Vegas to take the job away from him going into the playoffs. I'm just saying, there's always a risk when you let someone leave. He could fall in love with Vegas or playing for a winning hockey team and decide that he doesn't want to come back to a team that is not positioned to compete likely anytime soon. But then again, maybe that's fine....really not going to change the team's trajectory much either way. Yeah, not going to worry too much about this given the multitude of other issues. Getting Subban back is a little interesting. Just resign Crawford for a couple more years and figure out a way to fill the 3-4 glaring holes on defense.
  12. Sure its possible. But if you let him to go Vegas and they go on a long playoff run led by him, I doubt he's willing to come back to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 3 years and sign for less than what he was paid last year. He was willing to sign here long term up until a few hours ago, if we are to believe the reports. 13. This is probably insensitive, especially given Lehner's past issues, but I don't understand why you can't just revisit that conversation in a few months. If he wants to be here long term, he's a free agent after this year. Go help out a playoff team and enjoy that run and then figure something out.
  14. Setting aside the 'injured defensemen' part, I don't know if there's a better option for goalie going into next year. We basically got Lehner, after an incredible season, at the end of free agency for not all that much money. Don't know how much better we can do than Crawford, who is having another really good year. I don't know if there is a better option, but I do know that just coming back with the same crowd and getting nothing in trades is wasting years of hockey. Yeah, ideally you strip it down today, see what you can get for Crawford, and then bring him back over the summer with hopefully a better draft pick after you give up 7 goals a game the rest of the way. Going into 2020, I don't think Crawford will be the reason the team most likely doesn't go anywhere. Need to figure out how to put a defense together that won't give up 45 shots a game.
  15. Knowing Stan, he'll probably resign Crawford and trade for an injured defenseman and just put us all through the 4th wasted season in a row. 17. The real friends were the hearts we gave out once we got back in.
  18. Thank god. I posted a reply on the cubs reddit. Like a guy who’s weed dealer goes on vacation so he goes off and buys meth.
  19. Trying to figure out if there’s a site issue or if this just got blocked at work. Seems to be working mostly fine on my phone, though looks like a slow day, but when I try to go to the ‘Active Topics’ (most frequent starting point, so it autocompletes on chrome), I get redirected to ‘ww1.northsidebaseball.com’ which isn’t much of anything. Anyone else having this issue or is this something on my/my company’s end?
  20. Confirmed that any tweet about Javy doing anything still makes me smile like an idiot. So for as much as the rest of the sport might suck right now....still got that going for it.
  21. Yes to 'it's a start', no to pretty much the rest of it, especially the next sentence. If you travel for work, the company you work for covers a vast majority of your expenses. You don't get your salary reduced because of it.
  22. Imagine getting drafted to the highest level of anything and being told you will start off making the same amount as someone who makes $10/hour.
  23. How is $400 a week anywhere near approaching adequate?
  24. My wife shot a video of me pacing around the house in the bottom of the ninth. She showed it to me a couple months back, it sounded like i was speaking in tongues. I could not believe the Cubs got out of it, let alone a 1-2-3 inning. I knew then they were winning the game after that. I had closed out our tab in the top of the 8th expecting a mad rush and wanting to get out on the streets, not before asking if they sold champagne like a jinxing idiot that I am (I was also the 14 year old that started the '5 outs left' chant in my section right before Bartman). Said I would cover the bill and realized they were charging $9/Old Style tall boy, so that was a cool $350 or so. Between the 9th and the rain delay...that was a dark half hour.
  25. It's tempered a little bit by the fact that Javy and Willy basically hit 17 hoppers that barely reached the center fielder, and this was after Matt horsefeathering Moore essentially shut us down for 8 innings. But yeah, that Zobrist double was definitely...the second coolest double he had. I think that's what made it awesome to me. So many times in the playoffs we would be a victim of bad fortune or would go down with a whimper. But this time the breaks went our way. Plus at that time I think most of us were worried that Javy wouldnt even put the ball in play in a situation where it was critical for him to. Even if he hits it a little to the left or right, it definitely scores the run and probably advances the tying run to 3rd base with 1 out. Putting the ball in play in a situation where the opponent is doing everything possible to avoid it, especially when the count is 0-2, is worthy of being considered swag to me. I think you might be confusing a couple of the ABs...Contreras came up with 2nd and 3rd after the Zobrist double and hit through a partially drawn in infield. Then you had the Heyward failed bunt, which now when I think of that I picture Javy doing that in the top of the 9th of game 7 with a guy on third, which ended with him at second, and then Javy came up and singled to take the lead. It was definitely nice to get the breaks, but it was a real frustrating game until the very end.
