  1. These game threads are insufferable lately
  2. There’s nothing this board loves more than writing off this offense after a scoreless first few innings
  3. Their starter has allowed at least 4 ERs in four of his last five starts. He improved on his bad AAA numbers to start the year, but still isn’t good. Cubs offense is more than capable of covering for whatever Smyly decides to do today.
  4. Must Win* *comfortably *but also our great RD from earlier in the year doesn't matter because all that mattered was Ws and Ls.
  5. Going to be mighty disappointed if Nico and happ can’t get this run across ok there we go, way to run Ian
  6. This is the dumbest game I love it so much
  7. There's probably a slight difference in performance, but it's certainly not because of some Tauchman vibes thing. Given that he's pretty locked in at the leadoff spot against righties and doesn't start against lefties, we can use the Cubs overall performance splits to see the difference. v LHP: .253/.320/.424 v RHP: .255/.335/.417 So....slightly better against righties on the year, and, very crudely, slightly better when Tauchman starts.
  8. I've never actually done the math on this, but it does seem like a .300 hitter rarely has stretches where he goes like, 15/50 or whatever. It's a handful of 8/50s, a handful of 22/50s, and over 600 it balances out. As we've all gotten more analytical in all this, it's natural to expect like, one hit a game or whatever. But frustratingly just not how it ends up playing out.
  9. Anyways, go win the baseball game. These pitchers are bad.
  10. To join the pessimism for a second, the inevitable Cuas blow up is going to hurt. Have no confidence in him right now.
  11. Bellinger, Candy for sure. Swanson and him have the same wRC going into today, but you've seen where Swanson is currently. Morel...maybe? One home run is erasing a pretty bad cold streak of his own. Hoerner no, Suzuki no, Tauchman....you can make a (bad) argument. Said differently: No.
  12. 100% agreed. You want him there with 0-2 outs. Kinda poorly run by both players. Morel needed to wait until the rundown developed for Nico.
  13. That was misguided by Nico getting into that position, and really dumb going all the way to third base and giving Morel no chance to do anything.
  14. 3 runs through 11 outs from this slumping, ice cold, terrible offense.
  15. Don't know if this is on my end, but I've noticed the last couple days that the Iowa game is showing up as a different font on my end. I have it on dark mode and it's basically showing up in black font (and so I can only read it by highlighting it). Not at all a big deal, just thought you were forgetting to include that game lately and figured it out just now.
  16. The Cubs in the last week, including last night, have a team OPS that is higher than what the Brewers have put up all year.
  17. Generally agree with everything except the last piece. We're a game back of the -37 Marlins for the third wild card spot and neither of the top two slots are locked up either, so it's not like we're having to beat Miami, Cincinnati, Arizona, I guess still San Diego for one spot. Does it take a 100+ win pace to make up two games on Marlins with 43 games left to play?
  18. So the idea is to basically attach Ian Happ to Suzuki to and get nothing back, giving yourself two spots to fill, one of which has been manned by a pretty consistent 120 wRC guy who holds his own defensively. Because Matt Shaw is hitting well in high A. I’m sure PTR loves that plan! He can just set a reminder to trade Shaw in 2027 for the next prospect to take over for him.
  19. You’re just kinda carving up sample sizes to fit a narrative that doesn’t really exist. Unless I majorly screwed up this Fangraphs query on my phone (possible!) they’re hitting significantly better in august than they are in July (124 v 111). I assume when you mean ‘July’ you just mean ‘the winning streak’ which…yes, that’s probably not going to be the norm.
  20. Hoping that someone will beat me to posting ‘Must Win’ in tomorrows thread whenever it goes up
