  1. Bored, putting off work, etc. D Lee/Aramis spent the entirety of 2004-2009 at the Cubs corner infield combo. Lee was traded late in 2010. For my own laziness, just going to look at the complete years. In that 6 year stretch, Lee put up 21.4 fWAR and Aramis put up 21.6 fWAR. 43 fWAR total. KB and Rizzo were the combo from 2015 (technically like 2 weeks into 2015 with the service time crap but we're counting it) through 2020 (covid), so basically 5.5 years. In that time, KB put up 27.9 fWAR and Rizzo put up 22.4 fWAR, 50.3 fWAR total. Really goes to show how elite KB was for a few years there. Here's to hoping Busch/Shaw can join them.
  2. Morel at third to let Mike tauchman DH is a choice
  3. (old man yells at dystopian cloud) So I pay Youtube for their live TV service, which doesn't include the local baseball team's games for...reasons. So I pay Marquee another $20 a month for a different app that isn't available in the Samsung operating system so I have to screen mirror from my phone because that seems like a better option than plugging in a Roku and having to re-enter all my passwords for all 8 apps I'm either paying for or mooching off someone else. All to, in theory, watch the baseball games of the baseball team I am paying, separately, for the privilege of watching. And here we are, on a Friday night, leaving me in my situation, paying for live cable tv and also paying the baseball team directly, unable to watch said baseball team with jumping through yet another series of hoops. (yelling at cloud over)
  4. I just like the concept that there's any team in baseball that has some stud relief pitcher in AAA as like, the 11th guy on the bullpen depth chart. Like what are we expecting here
  5. Yep, from Sports Illustrated....pretty bleak!
  6. Might be parsing that last sentence wrong, but the majors basically exist outside of the PGA/LIV split, and pretty much every big name in golf, regardless of what tour they are affiliated with, is playing this weekend.
  7. Alternatively, we've played the world series champs and the best team in baseball, have been down two starters basically the whole time to non-season ending injuries, and are playing at a 94 win pace.
  8. Caveating that none of this really matters, some interesting nuances in that lineup: Busch over Dansby, the Morel/Mastro combo in the infield with Madrigal not starting.
  9. 5:40 local start before I blow off work the rest of the week for the Masters?
  10. Nico also has a .167 BABIP (.300 and .312 the last two years) and either a .364 (FG) or .345 (BaseballSavant) xwOBA (.320 and .322 wOBA the last two years). It's certainly jarring to see such a change in approach and the BA and SLG so far, but I don't know if it's a failed experiment just yet.
  11. Fun with sample sizes and selectively choosing data: since the rain delay against LA, the cubs have thrown 22 straight innings without anyone who was considered to be in their healthy starting rotation. Ie, bullpen pitchers. 8 earned runs in that stretch, for a 3.27 ERA.
  12. Yeah I was a little disappointed at that 2-0 swing by seiya on the curveball in the dirt but it’s obvious he’s pretty locked in. Those two aren’t quite as dynamic as Cain/yelich back in the day, but they are going to consistently wear down opposing pitchers.
  13. Man Yan Gomes pimping a home run to center was not something I had on my bingo card
  14. At the risk of jinxing things, this is pretty clutch from brown. Definitely still some work to do, but there was a pretty significant ‘blow up in the first two innings’ risk here that he was able to avoid
  15. Nico is definitely going through something. He can glove his way to a 3 WAR and I think there’s built in improvement to offset his struggles elsewhere, but the approach has been real weird.
  16. I'm sorry you think he makes too much money
  17. The Taillon injury forced our best stretch reliever into the rotation, the Steele injury took the next guy who could soak up innings and forced him into the rotation. So now you lose your two best long relief guys AND you have two rotation spots filled with (the same) guys who aren't fully stretched out). And then our best starter got shut down after 4 dominant innings because April weather sucks. You can't really problem solve for something like this in one offseason, and there are too many restrictions on number of pitchers you can carry, options, 40 man roster, etc to just churn through a bunch of AAA journeyman starts. Everyone hates their bullpens. Last year we just blamed the manager instead.
  18. Hahaha complaining about our .991 OPS shortstop who is actually underperforming his xwOBA by 42 points because he has 2 errors in 10 games. Probably still shaking the rust off.
  19. Not trying to minimize as much as I'm trying to point to really bad sequencing and selective memory, but the Cubs bullpen had a 3.56 ERA in October last year and were 18th in fWAR, while being 28th in WPA
  20. We played a game last night where it was Yu Darvish vs Javier Assad on the road and we lost by one run. It's ultimately fine. No, I will not consider further context.
  21. Well probably lose, it’s a bad loss, etc. butttt…it would be really amazing to make a comeback off Mr. $100m-has already blown multiple games-reliever edit: leaving this here as a sign of my stupidity, obviously ignore
