  1. Is that Jacque Jones on MLBNetwork??
  2. Or hiring Jeff Gillooly to take out Hill. Even WSR realizes that Castillo being the backup is a waste if he's actually any good. Is he comparable to Hill defensively? I'm assuming Max Ramirez is NOT.
  3. As a former college pitcher, I love to see this
  4. Eww, no thanks....he's basically Ryan Theriot, no?? Slightly better OBP maybe
  5. No question under....I don't think Hill has much of a chance to last on this team for the whole season. Silva's contract makes his status a tad more questionable for me. I don't think he will play much, but not sure he will be outright released either.
  6. He should really just quit and attempt to become a bullfighter or something
  7. In on the support Z side of the line in the sand!!
  8. Probably because average fans know who he is
  9. Seems like a stretch for the Rangers: Hamilton Kinsler N. Feliz N. Cruz A. Beltre Andrus CJ Wilson Are those the 7? Seems like a high number but mostly lower tier guys
  10. You don't think that would make him a complete idiot? If you're stupid enough to train with a known performance-enhancing drug provider, you might as well get some of the benefits. so byrd is stupid? I have a hunch that the providers of these substances can get you both legal and illegal. it's not as if Conte is the only guy that's ever provided an athlete with PEDs. Most infamous? Maybe, but that doesn't mean he's the only one. And the fact that his stuff worked so well may suggest that he can be really good with the legal stuff too. Byrd is stupid in the sense that he's drawing a bunch of negative attention to himself by working with Conte. There are thousands of trainers, yet he chooses to work with one who is infamous for running a PED lab. MLB only does urine tests anyway. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff players use that's not detectable without a blood test (e.g., HGH). Is Byrd using any of these? We can't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was. But don't you think he decided to work with him because he's one of the best? Conte would have to be the stupid one to be giving out illegal substances at this point. You can make the case Conte was stupid for doing it before, but it was working and he was certainly making boatloads of $$
  11. If Soto doesn't start at least 120 games, it'll be pretty bad. Hill is a black hole, and having him get 250 PA again would be a bad thing for the offense. And it's not annoying Hill will win the job, it's ridiculous. I heard yesterday that the Cubs are hoping for 140 from Geo.
  12. Just an FYI -- When I worked for a minor league team and Jeff (I believe) Santo came to show his movie, he had a bunch of #10 hats for sale. I don't know where you would get one now, 6 or so years later, but you could try searching the web.
  13. Laziness problem for Golden? Weed problem for Golden? Hopefully he realizes this is a job and won't nearly come as easily to him as it was in High School.
  14. Just don't put him back in the bullpen, it's strong enough already. If he must go to AAA for a while, so be it.
  15. You don't think that would make him a complete idiot? Doing something morally questionable but legal doesn't make one an idiot, certainly not a complete idiot. We're just speculating at this point, anyway. We don't know whether Byrd is using anything that could be banned one day. I'm not saying he's an idiot for working with Conte, actually the complete opposite -- I say go for it if you feel like it's helping, the dude has to know his stuff. He said, "Just because Byrd tests clean doesn't mean he's not using." My reference is that he would be an idiot if he were using any banned substance, not for working with Conte. If baseball is that worried about something he or anyone else is using they can ban it. Until then, fair game.
  16. Reading back a couple pages here, do some of you really have any sort of expectations for Blake DeWitt?? I mean seriously...? Did you watch this guy at all? He's not good, will never be very good and really has no business starting at 2B for the Cubs. If you think DeWitt can even approach the realm of what Michael Young did in his career then you should probably just stop trying.
  17. You don't think that would make him a complete idiot?
  18. Just because Conte is associated with BALCO/steroids doesn't mean he doesn't know how to get dudes ripped without it. They were just a means for easier, better and quicker results.
  19. Extremely specific Grandpa Theriot, thanks
  20. The last 3 seasons, Oliver has a K/BB of 279/205 (1.36 Rate) Yuck
  21. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6945/career;_ylt=Ag6GG7Dvf74.hnm_YpfIsFOFCLcF That's why
  22. I was #1 spot for Red Sox and it took 15 minutes....
  23. Yeah. I was there. Speaking of Red Sox tickets, I've been selected for the chance to buy Green Monster tickets on Saturday. Does anyone know if there's a strong enough resale on those to worry with it? Vance, don't take my word on this but I think there is a pretty decent resale value. I believe only something like 100 green monster seats a game or so. The seats I got for the Saturday Cubs/Red Sox game ($100 ticket on 1st base line) are going for $450 on stub hub, cheapest ticket. Insane
