  1. The Cubs don’t have budget constraints. They’re choosing not to spend money. There’s a big difference there. We’re splitting hairs right? Ownership directives is a budget constraint to me. I try to do whatever I can to remove them from the equation. Not when ownership is straight up lying about how much money they have to spend. It's all part of the equation. If I clearly have the income to spend X on a new car and could do so without overextending myself at all or preventing myself from making other significant purchases by doing so, but instead I choose to limit myself to 60% of X as what I want to spend, my budget constraint isn't 60% of X. It's still X. I'm just choosing to limit myself to 60% of X to spend on a car.

  3. Stupid Schwarber shit the bed against Pujols in the Derby.
  4. I'm sort of in the same boat. I mean, I get why people who love baseball would want to watch their favorite team play baseball, especially now when there's literally nothing else going on. But I just can't bring myself to watch. I just have no interest in this team right now.
  5. Josh Hader in the ninth with a 3 run lead: HR Flyout HR 1B HBP 1B HR Brewers lose 8-5.
  6. Willy’s PA was awful there.
  7. That type of play has always bugged the crap out of me and yes it should definitely be banned.
  8. I don’t know what the final deal was. They said $8 mil and add ons. His salary is like 300/w so I doubt inter is paying all of it They're for sure not paying all of it. Similar to when Bale was loaned to Spurs by Real. I just mean if the transfer fee is paid up front, it's a lot easier to pay, say, 2/3 of his salary to play for Inter rather than 2/3 of his salary plus 1/5 of the 100M transfer fee as well. Though they might not care about that anyway as much as they care about him having a good year so they can sell him next offseason and recoup some of the transfer fee.
  9. Are transfer fees paid up front or spread out over the length of the deal? If they’re up front, that would make more sense why they’re willing to do the Lukaku deal. I’m guessing Inter is paying at least some of his yearly salary also.
  10. I mean he should be barred from being an agent if that’s true. That’s negligence regardless but especially if the player was wanting to sign/stay somewhere and he never was told about an offer and guided to a different spot. What would be Close’s motivation for doing this? Some sort of collusion with LA? The two offers were pretty similar (I’ve heard when factoring in taxes, Atlanta’s was more) so it’s not like he’d get some sort of huge bump in commission for the deal.
  11. Strasburg signed a 7 year, $245M contract before the 2020 season. He's thrown a total of 31 1/3 innings since signing the contract.
  12. It's even better if you expand it a bit. In 2009 they pick Tyreke Evans 4th, Steph Curry goes 7th. They were also unlucky this year as they had the best odds of the top pick and an 82.3% chance of a top pick but got 4th. Blake Griffin went 1st and Harden went 3rd. 2011 Kawhi also went 15th (this is a stretch since 5 picks later but I'm including it). 2012 Harrison Barnes went also 7th 2013 they pick Ben McLemore 7th. CJ McCollum went 10th. 2017 they take DeAaron Fox 5th. Fine on the surface. Except they should have picked 3rd but dropped to 5th due to a pick swap with Philly. That pick swap was included in a salary dump of Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson in 2015 so they could sign ... wait for it ... Rajon Rondo, Marco Belinelli and Kosta Koufos. The third pick in 2017? Jayson Tatum. Also 2017! They have the 10th pick. They select Zach Collins but trade him on draft day for Justin Jackson (15) and Harry Giles (20). Donovan Mitchell goes 13 and Bam Adebayo goes 14. 2019 they didn't even have a 1st rounder because it was included as part of the 2015 trade. It's hilarious how inept they've been. In the last decade plus, despite a string of top 5-7 picks, they hit on Cousins and Fox and that's about it. Their next best move is acquiring Bogdan Bogdanovic in a trade but even him they let walk for nothing two years ago despite him averaging 18+ ppg the previous two years and being a decent 3 point shooter.
  13. Texas is BACK!
  14. Okay? He said the 2004 season was peak Rivera, which by any number of metrics it wasn’t. And when he says “peak Mariano Rivera” he mentions two stats in the same tweet. One of which Rivera posted a bottom 5 career WHIP and the other was a career high. Not a hard leap to make that peak and career high are used in a similar context. Like I said. Dumb tweet by a smart baseball fan. Tons of us have made dumb posts on here when it comes to the Cardinals so I’m not judging him.
  15. For a supposedly smart baseball guy, Mike Schur has some awful tweets when it comes to the Yankees. 1. Saves? Really? 2. Rivera’s career WHIP was 1.00 so 1.08 was actually below average for his career. It’s actually his fifth worst season for WHIP in his career. 3. To use some other metrics, his 2004 was middle of the pack for Rivera in ERA, ERA+ and FIP. I mean, I get it. He’s a Red Sox fan who hates the Yankees but some of the stuff he tweets is ridiculous. He was complaining about Matt Carpenter after about 25 PAs.
  16. Suck it, Boston.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet] I can't remember which game it was but didn't a Cardinal player attempt to do something similar against the Cubs in the series they just played? I seem to remember one of their player running through second on a force out and nearly trucking Madrigal.
  18. Tonight was his 133rd playoff game but it was the first one where he hasn’t made a single 3 pointer.
  19. I saw him in 2014 at Wrigley. He didn’t do much in the couple game we saw except for one at bat he just smoked a line drive that either short hopped the wall in LF or hit it on a fly. It was nuts how hard he hit that ball and how low it stayed to the ground yet still went as far as it did. I was glad I got to see him hit a ball that hard live one time.
  20. Well my day just got significantly better. Maddon’s IBB with the bases loaded is still worse, but it’s close.
  21. Been watching too much Cubs probably.
  22. The Cubs destroyed the league for 2 1/2 months in 2016, went 5-15 and people* were freaking out. *No judgement on anyone as, without going back and looking, it's entirely possible I was one of those people.
  23. Is it bad to give up 2 HRs on 3 pitches?
  24. The Cubs almost did this last year. They were 9 over .500 right before losing 11 straight. They were 11 over .500 a few games earlier but I don’t know if he means 10 over immediately before losing 12 straight.
