  1. Another good start to the game. Now if only we can pitch a little better today.

    That was hilarious.

    Bonds

Do you need more evidence against Barry Bonds? Honestly. Look, I know that many other players, including NSBB favorite Sammy Sosa, have seen huge changes in their bodies, but nobody has as much surrounding him as Barry Bonds does. Do I think Sammy took steroids? Yes. Am I fairly sure he did? No. Am I fairly sure Bonds took steroids? Yes. That's the difference. And yes, true baseball purists DO care that somebody who hit "365 home runs" took steroids. Brady Anderson, a man with only 210 home runs, was the first example of a guy that wasn't anywhere near a home run hitter that suddenly became a home run hitter when he hit 50 in 1996. Obviously in 1996 nobody was talking about steroids but, even as an 11 year old kid, I distinctly remember saying that it was weird that somebody whose previous high was just 21 home runs. I care that steroids are removed from the game and thousands of other people do also. This is a big deal and it is something that needs to be addressed. I could give a rat's ass about Tim Raines and his coke because coke doesn't help you hit a ball farther so don't try to use that argument. As long as I'm ranting, something else that ticks me off is that some people(re: Torii Hunter) claim that the only reason baseball is making such a big deal out of this is because Barry Bonds is black. I'm sorry but does Torii remember what happened to Mark McGwire when he pleaded the fifth in front of Congress all day last year? McGwire got skewered in the media for not saying anything and many people considered McGwire to have admitted his guilt. How about the 47835 replays of Rafael Palmeiro's finger pointing escapades after he tested positive last year? The steroids problem is an issue that baseball needed to address because they waited too long to do it. Yes I'll admit that I loved the Summer of 98 when McGwire and Sammy were going homer for homer. But nobody knew how widespread steroids were. I just think it's pathetic that baseball needed Congress to step in and basically force them to implement a strong steroid policy. The whole steroid problem is why I hate Donald Fehr. He realized that there was a problem and refused to give in one bit. I don't think the situation would be as bad as it is had baseball put in the testing policy it currently has a couple years ago on its own. But the public views this as baseball only doing what it has to do to keep Congress of it's back. Honestly I don't think baseball has done enough yet and I would like to see it do more. What that entails, I don't know. But more must be done and soon.
  4. My favorite has to be: July 12 -- Tigers manager Jim Leyland introduces himself to Giants slugger Barry Bonds at an All-Star Game event, telling him he used to manage a player with the same name but a much, much smaller body during his time with the Pirates in the late '80s and early '90s.
  5. Most Red Sox fans refer to ARod with names that would not be welcome on this board. If they do call him Slappy you can be sure that there is some profanity surrounding that. I personally like Slap Nasty.

    Bonds

Personally I can't wait to see what fans come up with to heckle Barry Bonds. I'm not referring to throwing things on the field but San Diego isn't known as a mean town. Also, Bonds brought this upon himself by taking steroids. Don't give me the BS argument that everybody was doing it and thats just what baseball players did. Bonds was one of the best players in the game WITHOUT steroids. He didn't need them. So I don't feel the least bit bad for him. Most of you aren't from California and aren't subjected to all of the media attention that I have to read about out here. There are also all of the idiot Giants fans that still refuse to admit that Bonds took steroids. Maybe it's just that I have gotten so sick and tired of Bonds that I don't care that somebody threw a syringe on the field. I'm not saying that I'm going to do it, but I just don't feel bad for Bonds at all.
  8. I would put Bradley #1 and I don't think Farnsworth is that much of a hothead. I know he's been in a couple brawls, but I don't think he is deserving of a top 5 mention.

Good point. I retract my statement about the beer bottles. But I stick to my syringe stance. Hilarious.

Hold onto it and waive it in the crowd and it is funny and clever. Create a sign with syringes and waive them and it's funny and clever. Throwing stuff on the field is never funny nor clever. No offense, but if I saw someone at Wrigley do that I'd call an usher and have the person escorted from the park. Throwing a plastic syringe on the field is funny and clever. Running onto the field with either a plastic or real syringe would cross the line. As other people have said, loosen up about it. It's not that big of a deal.

I'm have to correct you on this one. The Cubs-Cardinals rivalry would be like the Giants-Dodgers rivalry not the Giants-Padres rivalry. The Giants-Padres would be more like the Cubs-Astros. Still a rivalry, but not your main rivalry. Also, being that a Padres fan did this, I can't wait for the Giants to go to Los Angeles. That should be quite entertaining.

As long as they're empty... I can't stand it when people waste good beer. Thrown AT them? No. Thrown on the ground 5-10 feet from them to get their attention? I don't see a problem with it. If you can't throw ANYTHING on the field, then we shouldn't be able to throw visiting team's home runs back, either. Ummm, you really don't see a problem with someone throwing a beer bottle onto the field to get someone's attention? Wow. It's a horrible thing to do. Plus, I don't think John Q. Fan is talented enough where there's a difference between aiming at the player and 5-10 feet away from the player. Either throw is just as likely to hit him. And, at least at GABP, a fan is NOT allowed to throw a homerun ball back onto the field. I don't see a problem with throwing plastic beer bottles at somebody if you can even reach them. A glass bottle would be bad because it could shatter.
  13. I loved the fact that the thread for the opening day game was already at 15 pages before the game even started.
  14. I think you need to specify that he is awesome when holding a bat. He leaves much to be desired when he's weilding a glove.
  15. Let's just hope we don't need him on Wednesday.
  16. That's an awfully big accusation.
  17. I'm pretty sure it's a season high. Haha. I think it can be beat. In the playoffs maybe?
  18. double in the eighth fora 37 game hitting streak.
  19. Or a really, really bad year by Jacque. Excellent point. I'm hoping that my situation comes true.
  20. Jimmy Rollins has doubled to right field in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 37 games.
  21. I wouldnt be surprised to see this guy take over for Jock Strap by end of season if he keeps it up. That would mean he obviously played well enough to earn it based on Dusty's past use of young players so if Pagan does pass Jones by the end of the year I would be ecstatic. Dusty was quoted as saying he is really excited by the youth of his squad. However, I agree with you. Let's not get too high on Pagan here. It's only 1 game. I know that Pagan will have his bad stretches, but my point was if he does end up starting over Jones towards the end of the season that it will have been an impressive rookie year.
