  1. Marshall, Hill, and Guzman all got chances to start and it's good to see that management realizes Rusch isn't going to cut it and they might as well give Ryu his shot.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/probable_pitchers.jsp?c_id=chc Thank goodness Rusch isn't starting and it will be nice to see Ryu finally get a start.
  3. I think I'm going to be sick.
  4. Quick inning for Howry. Let's get some runs!!
  5. This has a chance to be the shortest regular season game thread of the year. Currently, the shortest game thread is 442 posts on May 7.
  6. I love some of the stats you pull out Fred. Pure awesomeness.
  7. At the rate the team is currently going at, your poll doesn't have the right answer.
  8. Why do you want them to win? Their chances of making the playoffs are just a little better than 1 in 400 at this point. Cubs management says it's too early to throw in the towel when they should be thinking about how to make this team better next year and the near future. This season is already a lost cause. It's not pessimism. It's realism. Check the simulations: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php http://www.coolstandings.com/baseball_standings.asp?i=1 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php Personally, I am rooting for them to lose right now, and I'm not ashamed to say it. We will not win as long as the current management stays in place. If the Cubs start winning some games now, they might finish in fourth or fifth place. If that's good enough for you, then I'm glad you're not the GM. Well then your not a cub fan if you are "rooting" for them to lose. That does not make any sense. Yeah its a tuff time to watch them play, but that being said I will NEVER root for them to lose. It may be different with football, but I'm a Raiders fan and, once I realized the season was lost, I rooted for them to lose because I wanted them to get a higher draft pick. That doesn't mean that I'm not a Raiders fan. People do this all the time. I did that with the Packers this year. It wasn't fun and I don't want to do it again. The situations are different though because in football, your whole franchise can change with the addition of one player in the draft. In baseball, it takes much more than one guy to change around a franchise and the draft in baseball is much more hit or miss than the NFL draft. But in both cases you are still pulling for the team to lose so something good ultimately happens. In football you want that one good draft pick that can change your franchise so you might pull for the team to lose to attain that. With the Cubs this year many people want the team to lose because they feel the organization needs some drastic changes that wouldn't happen if the team finishes with a record like in 2005.

If that's good enough for you, then I'm glad you're not the GM. Nothing gets changed with this team if we have a season like last year. Management will blame the bad start on injuries, say that the team performed much better when everybody came back, and claim that the team would have been even better if the injuries wouldn't have happened. Then they won't change anything. There are numerous problems with this team that need to be addressed and without a horrible season I don't think they will be.
  11. Thank you for joining us Fred. Now I finally get a play by play that's not a gamecast.
  12. I feel your pain. I started a thread in rants about how gay FOX is. Wouldn't you think that MLB.TV would sit back and say "hey, we're not broadcasting any 10:00 baseball game in Northern California, maybe we should let them watch the game on their computer." But of course that's not the case.
  13. This sucks. The game is supposed to be on FOX, but the Saturday game on FOX out here on the west coast doesn't start until 1. I have MLB.TV and I can't watch the game because of blackout restrictions even though the game ISN'T ON TV HERE. This sucks.
  14. The problem wasn't that the Cubs hit too many home runs; it was that the Cubs hit too many solo home runs. Better OBP means those solo home runs suddenly turn into two and three run home runs. I know other people, not necessarily on this board, talked about the Cubs hitting too many home runs. The problem boils down to the emphasis, or lack thereof, on OBP within the organization.
  15. I was in a computer lab the other day finishing some work with one of my friends and I was telling her how much the Cubs suck. She didn't fully grasp so I brought up the Cubs schedule on espn.com and told her "red means a loss and blue means a win." She looked at the schedule and instantly said "Wow, they're pathetic." Yup.
  16. I'm assuming the US showed an improvement over their horrid performance against Morocco on Tuesday because they actually won, but how much of an improvement was it?
