    In all seriousness, this relates to the racism piece ESPN ran in the couple weeks before the World Cup regarding how prevalent and widespread racism is in Europe. It's unfortunate that these types of things happen but they do and I don't think anything will ever change. There will always be people so set in their views that problems will occur. And this goes beyond just racism. In virtually every aspect of society there will be extremists and they will cause major problems. I feel sorry for Jacque that he has to go through this, as well as anybody in the past that has gone through this as well. I'm okay with criticizing people for a poor job performance but when you go into issues like race/politics/religion you are crossing the line. Unfortunately people feel that they can cross this line whenever they want to and being inebriated isn't an excuse. I can only hope that stadiums across the world continue (as it sounds like this is what is happening) to kick people out and ban them from stadiums for racist comments. It's a step in the right direction.

    I hate Hawkins, Baker and Jones because they suck at their jobs. I've hated plenty of white Cubs as well. *cough* Glendon "Gopher Ball" Rusch *cough*

    At least Mariotti is thinking for himself, unlike the Tribune columnists. I'm not saying he is correct in his thoughts, but at least he is forming his own conclusions and is not having his articles written for him by the paper/owner.

    Because Manny Ramirez hits behind him. Pick your poison. As a pitcher, you're just kind of screwed in that situation. The Kruker did come up with an interesting solution though. He said to walk both of them in that situation and hope Lowell grounds into a DP. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! :roll: Well that's why he's on tv right? Because he's brilliant.

    Wilbon mentioned Wood and Prior on today's PTI in relation to Liriano and said that Wood/Prior's injuries always started out as a forearm or muscle problem as well and just got worse.

    By offense I assume you mean better OBP because Rowand's SLG is actually higher than Nixon's and he has more HR's than Nixon as well. Rowand's OPS splits are virtually the same (.759 vs Left, .745 vs Right) where as Nixon doesn't show the ability to hit lefties much at all (.865 vs Left, .688 vs Right). I would rather have a guy that we could throw out there every day and not worry if a righty or lefty is pitching than a guy we would have to platoon. We already have Jacque Jones. Personally, I like Jacque but I don't like it when a Jacque bats against a lefty because I have no faith he is going to get a hit. Granted, Jacque's splits are a bit more drastic, but it's the same type of thing.

    Does anyone else think ARam coming back could hinge on whether Dusty Baker comes back?

    I didn't realize that Matthews Jr. was almost 32. I would pass on him as I believe he is likely to regress back to his career numbers after he gets his new contract.

    I was extremely surprised when the A's traded him to Colorado in 2005. His BA/OBP/SLG were increasing steadily from 2002-2004. His BA/OBP were down a bit (.017/.011) in 2005 from 2004 but his SLG was up a bit (.007) with Oakland when Beane traded him. I like Byrnes but with the players we currently have on the team, and those we have signed for next year, I don't want him being an everyday player.

    What he was actually suspended for was refusing to leave the field after being ejected. Dukes was obviously having a tough time convincing the umpire to go out to dinner with him after the game.

    I have never liked Hee Seop Choi all that much and always found him way overrated and don't want the Cubs to take another shot with him. A little note: His .140 isoD in AAA and MLB career isoD (915 AB's) of .109 are very good but weren't good enough for Theo Epstein. That's saying something.

    Yes, so even though their OBPs weren't good, they still had a significantly better IsoD (more patience) than Izturis at age 26. That was the first thing I thought as well when I saw the numbers.

    Every Cubs fan wants Izturis to be successful in Chicago and would love it if he turned into a reliable SS and #2 hitter. Fact is, that it will be unlikely for him to do so based on what he has done in the past. He had one decent year but did very little before that and has done very little since then. And like people have said, his 2004 season was nothing spectacular anyway. His defense is great but this team needs reliable pitchers that aren't going to get hurt year after year and another solid bat in the lineup. Izturis doesn't provide either of those. I hope Izturis becomes a better player but I don't think he will. And if he doesn't, he's going to be costing the Cubs $4.5 million in 2007 that could have been added to a contract or two of free agents in the offseason to sweeten the deal. But if he was owed 500K next year and was a bust, then the Cubs wouldn't be wasting much money at all. On the whole, the negatives to acquiring Izturis outweigh the postives of acquiring him.

    Izturis will make about $4.5m next season and $5.5m in 2008. So we actually did lose money to spend. About...$4.5m worth. That adds up. Rusch + Neifi + Izturis is about $10m in waste. If we just had Izturis, it would be one thing. Together, the three of them take up more than 10% of our payroll. That's ridiculous.

    Metallica is my most favorite band of all time. Personally I think they are better than the Beatles and nothing will be able to convince me otherwise. That being said, I knew they didn't have a chance against the Beatles, Zeppelin, or the Stones. Maybe against Pink Floyd but we don't get to see that matchup.

    This is getting old. Please stop. I've read enough of posts like this in the maddux/walker rant/trade threads. Please stop, it's hurting me. I mean this honestly and in peace. The solution is quite simple: Go to another message board.

    didn't hendry actually say he could have had a couple of high-level prospects for maddux, but chose izturis instead? if hendry actually did say that, then people have every right to criticize what he got in return. Yes, he said it when he was talking to Len and Bob during the game. If im the Dodgers, im not dealing 2 highly regarded prospects for a 40yr old pitcher. If I'm the Cubs, I don't give Glendon Rusch 2yrs/$6 mil and I don't give Neifi Perez 2yrs/$5 mil. But that's what happened. GM's make puzzling moves sometimes and it's not what you would do or not, it's what the GM would do or not.
