  1. Just realized that Mexico got Ecuador in the R32, which is a rough matchup. Second hardest behind Senegal according to the world rankings.
  2. I really hope the revenge thing is why they did it. "I know none of us were alive then but you F'd us over 44 years ago so we're going to try to F you over now even if it means we get a harder R32 game."
  3. Teams advanced out of total teams in the field Asia: 2 of 9 (oof) Africa: 9 of 10 CONCACAF: 3 of 6 CONMEBOL: 5 of 6 Oceania: 0 of 1 UEFA: 13 of 16 Outstanding tournament for Africa. Probably par for the course for UEFA and South America. CONCACAF probably expected that result considering the teams that were in the field. Huge disappointment for Asia. Not that they would have expected to get 6 or 7, but only getting 2 is rough. Iran got unlucky but Korea laid an egg.
  4. 9 of the 10 made it through now that Algeria is through.
  5. I was not expecting 3-3 from Austria-Algeria today.
  6. This Colombia-Portugal game has been great. If I didn't know the standings, I would assume Colombia needed to win to win the group based on how hard they're going for a goal at the end. Also, Congo advances which officially eliminates Korea. The final spot will go to Algeria if they tie Austria and Iran if there's a winner in the Austria-Algeria game.
  7. Boy the bracket is sure shaping up nicely for Argentina. They get Cape Verde in the R32 followed by Egypt or Australia in the R16. Then in the QF it's Switzerland, Algeria/Austria/Iran, Colombia/Portugal or Ghana. Compare that to France and Germany who will likely play each other in the R16 and then likely Netherlands or Morocco in the QF.
  8. Iran thought they scored the winning goal in added time but it gets ruled out due to offside. The rare instance where we remember the rule is the second-to-last defender because the goalie was further up the field than the offside player. Belgium wins the group, Egypt is second. Iran could still advance but they need one of the following to happen: Austria and Algeria to not tie Congo to not beat Uzbekistan Croatia to lose to Ghana and Panama to not beat England by 3+ goals
  9. Uruguay has to be in the running for most disappointing WC. In a group with Saudi Arabia and you finish 3rd.
  10. With the caveat that I totally get why both teams would focus on doing whatever they need to do to advance... Paraguay-Australia had: 0.82 xG 19 shots 7 shots on goal 20 touches in the opposing penalty box And we get to see it again when Austria plays Algeria!
  11. Bad day for South Korea. Both Groups E and F got three teams through and it's looking like Group D will also.
  12. Meet the Mets Meet the Mets Step right up and sweep the Mets!
  13. Hoping Max Arfsten gets into the game today. UC Davis alum.
  14. Before today we’d allowed 3 more than the A’s and 5 more than the Nats.
  15. I shouldn’t be surprised considering Imanaga and Taillon were 1-2 in HR allowed at one point but I wasn’t aware we’d given up the most home runs in the league.
  16. The Japan-Sweden game could get boring in the 2nd half. Japan only wins the group if the better Netherlands result (up 2-0) and know they get 2nd as long as they don’t lose. Sweden also knows they advance with a draw and might not be willing to risk going for a win when a loss could bounce them.
  17. I'm not sure what the Giants starting pitcher has to do with either the Cubs or the Mets. LOL. Also, wish we had Logan Webb instead.
  18. South Africa beats South Korea to advance. Korea could still advance but it will come down to other results. I believe as of now they're only ahead of Scotland in the three groups that have finished.
  19. Mets. More like MEEEEEEts. Pretty difficult to have 6 errors in a game.
  20. Basically none of that is right except for the fact that they played the Rockies in one of the games. But then again, I'd expect nothing better from AI.
  21. Found it. In 2002. 3 HR and 9 RBI vs Col then had another HR and 5 RBI in Col the next day. 2 more the following day so that's 16 in 3 games.
  22. I’m sure this is a case of 13 just being a lot to have over 3 games, but I’m surprised peak Sammy didn’t do it.
