  1. I'm surprised that pitch was actually called a ball.
  2. Crap. Off to a bad start. Can the Cubs have a mulligan?
  3. I assume you mean Wells.
  4. This is all false: DeRosa had a 2 run homer and Izturis didn't have an RBI in the game. Don't they have an editor? The 's' in Jacque could be a simple mistake somebody would make. But there is no reason a writer covering professional baseball games in which they provide you with every stat you need should make mistakes like this. It's one thing if you're at a high school game taking down your own stats and notes and you incorrectly identify somebody (and even then you can ask the coach for clarification). But at a professional baseball game? Please. This is just horrible journalism.
  5. Vladimir Guerrero currently leads the MLB with a 339 OPS+ though Akinori Iwamura (338) and Miguel Cabrera (336) aren't far behind. DeRosa is 8th with a pedestrian 247. Dan Haren has a 620 ERA+ with John Lackey second at 566. Hill and Lilly are tied for 8th with 301. I love baseball reference.
  6. For those who didn't see it in the game thread, I'll post it again. Here was Capuano's line against the Cubs last year: 3 GS, 26 IP, 18 H, 0 R, 0.00 ERA. He threw two complete games with pitch counts of 91 and 97. The other outing he went 8 innings on 125 pitches. So needless to say, the Cubs performed far better against him this year than last year. It's too bad they weren't able to get the win but it could have been a lot worse.
  7. Chris Sampson vs Marquis on Tuesday and Wandy Rodriguez vs Hill on Wednesday.
  8. I'll do you one better. Derek Jeter's regular season career batting: .317/.388/.463/.851 Derek Jeter's postseason career batting:.314/.384/.479/.863 Those numbers would have been better, but he shared some of his clutch with ARod cuz he was tired of being so much more awesome than everyone who ever lived. That's pretty funny. I'm a Jeter fan, we were in Kalamazoo at the same time. I taught his sister Sharlee when he was a senior in HS, so I'm a little biased. Anyway, I think he's pretty damn good. I also think some people in the media make too much out of "Captian intangible" when what he's done is pretty tangible. But I cannot understand why he takes so much abuse on this site. He's a lock for the HOF based on his numbers alone. Don't get me wrong, I think Jeter is a very good player and he will make the HOF. The thing that ticks me (and I assume a lot of people) off is the perception that he is a god that can do no wrong when it comes to the postseason when in reality, his postseason stats are virtually identical to his regular season stats. He's the golden boy of MLB and the media makes him out to be better than he is.
  9. Here's hoping Floyd gets the start tomorrow.
  10. yeah, that's not good news for the Cardinals. I'm still really surpised they didn't give him an MRI when he first had the problem. Wow, they didn't? That seems strange. That's a move the Cubs would, er, have made.
  11. This guy: http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/5025.jpg 0-1, 5.79 ERA 4/4 vs PIT: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER 2006 w/ SD: 12-5, 3.65 ERA vs This guy: http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6223.jpg 1-0, 1.29 ERA 4/4 vs CIN: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER 2006 w/ TOR: 15-13, 4.31 ERA This is the home opener for the Cubs. They're coming off a disappointing loss to the Brewers but did take two out of three to win the series. The Cubs come in with a 3-3 record while the Astros (the home team of Monroe, La.) come in with a 1-5 record. Woody has not done well against the Cubs the past few years posting a 5.93 in 30.1 IP since 2004. In the last three years he's started 3 games in Wrigley and has an 0-2 record with a 10.64 ERA in eleven innings. Don't go below .500 Cubs. EDIT: BTW Roast, you might have to wait a while to start your first game thread of the year because I'm planning on starting a bunch here.
  12. That was stellar. Is it 2010 yet? Here's another one. Meh on the music choices but the video is good. They do show a couple of Mexico goals but most of it is US centered. WARNING: Music not work safe. Someday we're going to beat Mexico in Mexico City and it will be glorious. The amount of hatred I have for their soccer team is unbelievable. Related to the US national team, does anybody know where I can find full videos of some of their 2002 World Cup games - well, just the Portugal and Mexico matches? US Mexico 2002: http://torrents.huntparkinsider.com:6969/stats.html?info_hash=02726e712c5d668616d91e3425751f2f6bfdab8b Thank you much. EDIT: That site has a ton of everything on there. I found all of the 2002 US World Cup matches there. Here is the homepage for those interested.
  13. I'm done with this game. Time to watch the end of the Masters and the Lakers-Suns game.
  14. We have bats behind them, Barrett and Jones/Floyd. Barrett almost came through, just some bad luck. Yup. With the way Barrett hit that ball, if he gets under it a bit more, it's a 7-6 Cubs lead right now.
  15. Just like last year. Last year we don't score 4 Heh, yeah, last year Capuano goes 8 or 9 shutout innings.
