  1. I asked earlier but nobody answers so here goes again... I'm assuming we saw inconsistent and wild Z judging by his line?
  2. Who was warming up in the pen to relieve Z?
  3. Wild pitch/passed ball and the Cubs have the lead.
  4. I'm assuming we saw inconsistent and wild Z on the mound tonight?
  5. Yeah, same here. I have a HS baseball game to cover that starts around 4 so I'll miss the first few innings. Hopefully when I get back around 6:30ish, Z will still be in the game.
  6. I'm blaming luck (re: the wind blowing in) for the Cubs only scoring 3 runs yesterday. That is not luck. It's a well known fact of life about April baseball. Which way the wind is blowing is hardly a fact. Actually it is a fact. If the wind is blowing out of the east, that's a fact. But I was calling it a fact of life of April baseball. It's not very hard to know if the wind is blowing in a certain direction whether it will be blowing in or out at Wrigley. I'm referring to knowing in advance (i.e. a few days before). Can you tell me which way the wind will be blowing on Friday in Chicago when the Cubs play the Cardinals. No you can't. You can take a guess, and in this case it would be an educated and logical guess, but it would still be a guess. It's not a fact. It's not a certainty. It's a guess. There's a difference.

  8. Sorry, but I'm getting a little thrown off by these two stats....whats the difference here? If you lost 2 in a row, that's not one in a row, but you've still lost your previous game. Plus Fred likes to make up numbers to see if anyone's still reading. You mean like this one:
  9. I'm blaming luck (re: the wind blowing in) for the Cubs only scoring 3 runs yesterday. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Cubs would have won the game since the Padres wouldn't have been held to 3 runs through 9 innings either. It would have been a completely different game had there been no wind or if the wind was blowing out. But that doesn't mean the Cubs would have won the game.
  10. You know how everybody was talking about how if there was no wind today or it was warmer that the Cubs would have hit a few home runs. Well, let me just say that things work both ways. If the conditions are different, Miller's line looks way worse. And like you said, those types of conditions will happen in the summer so things can only get worse.
  11. I haven't read much of the thread or the media reports but do we know for sure that Guzman is being sent down so he can be stretched out to be a starter or is that just the hope right now? I would love it if it was true but I would like to know for sure whether its a quote on the radio or from an article.
  12. 1. No Zaun. 2. Ohman still has value because of his very good 2005 and solid 2006 so if the Cubs are going to trade him, they better not get trash in return. 3. I would prefer to wait a bit to trade Jones to make sure Pie really is ready to play at the ML level. I would love it if he was but it's too early to tell right now.
  13. I expect Lou to tell Z that he's going to throw 100 pitches regardless of how many runs he gives up. Z better not waste pitches because there won't be an early exit tomorrow. He needs to step up and pitch like the ace he is supposed to be.
  14. Come on Bob, aren't you being a little harsh on the kid? After all, he is only 18. It's like you're telling him Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny don't exist.
  15. I think part of the problem with the offense today was just pure bad luck. The Cubs had some hard hit balls, but if they were hit too low, they were hit right at infielders. If they were hit too high, they'd get caught up in the wind and become deep flyouts (or, in Mike Cameron's case, a great opportunity to do a faceplant). There wasn't much room for error, you know? If the wind were blowing out, this game would have been a shootout. I'm not too entirely worried about the offense right now; the power's there and they caught a few too many bad breaks today. Agreed, the ball Jones hit in the 37th was gone most days. I didn't see a few of the others (unlike the rest of you I have a life -- OK, I was secretly TV shopping for no real reason), but I heard that a few other balls were headed for the bleachers but knocked down. DeRosa's ball in the 13th(?) was absolutely destroyed. Yeah, on about 19 out of 20 days at Wrigley that one's out easily. Yup. With no wind, that one is easily out. With the wind blowing out, that thing could be on to Waveland.
  16. Go to http://www.retrosheet.org and they'll have everything you need to figure out the answer to your question.
  17. Just saw on SportsCenter that the Washington Nationals wore Virginia Tech hats during their game today. =D>
  18. Ronny had what about to two decent months - 80 AB's in 2005 but that was spread out over the whole year and April of 2006. Other than that, he's horrible. I agree. Get rid of him. I prefer a middle infield of Theriot and DeRosa but I won't be angry to see Izturis in there at short only because I know it would be worse if Ronny was in there.
