  1. That's a nice way of putting it.
  2. He's at 96 pitches. which is more than enough Especially with a 9-1 lead.
  3. Oh yeah, the Spurs definitely benefited with that. With regards to the Horry foul, it wasn't as bad as it looked. I mean, it's simple physics. When a guy who is 6'10, 260 checks a guy who is 6'2, 190, of course the smaller guy is going to go flying.
  4. Just got home and I'm happy to see Z actually had a good outing.
  5. There is an article in the NY Post today that has the Orioles talking to the Mets about Chan Ho Park. Thanks Hoops for that information. I needed a good laugh. :D
  6. .ylekilnU Hey i'm coming to visit a friend in Davis, and while he's at class on friday would love to watch the friday game at a bar while drinkin a few before the A's/Giants game. Do you know of a decent place out there to watch the game? Any help appreciated. The only place I can think of that could be televising the Cubs-Sox games is the Davis Graduate. The website is http://www.davisgrad.com and they should have a phone number on there if you want to call and find out if they are showing it.
  7. You don't recall our bullpen with Alfonsucka or Hawkins then? Well, in a couple years you'll probably be saying, "don't you remember those bozos Howry, Eyre, and Ohman?" It's really that bad. This is definitely in Alfonsucka territory, don't you think? How many leads do they have to blow? Cubs bullpen ERA's: 2007: 3.61 (before today) 2006: 4.04 2005: 4.24 2004: 4.03 2003: 4.16 2002: 4.86 2001: 3.93 2000: 5.17 This is the best pen the Cubs have had in a while. Meh! I watch every game and this pen is bad. Giving up 10 loses is terrible. Doesn't matter. Say a starter gives up 6 runs in only 3 innings, the team comes back to tie the game, and the bullpen gives up 1 run late in the game to lose 7-6. In that case, the bullpen was solid (1 run in 6 innings) while the starter was horrible (6 runs in 3 innings) yet the pen gets charged with the loss.
  8. In other words, the Cubs have been in the second most pressure-filled games when they hand it over to the bullpen of any team in baseball. This basically means that, compared to all but one team this year, the Cubs' bullpen has been placed in situations with little to no room for error. Even if the bullpen has been merely decent, with those kinds of situations constantly popping up, that's not good enough. Take it for what you will. Maybe the starters need to improve, maybe the lineup needs to do a better job, or maybe the bullpen could use an upgrade. Heck, maybe it's all of the above. The bottom line is, these tense situations in games handed over to the bullpen have magnified any flaws it has to a strong extent. That doesn't really surprise me. The team has played so many close games this year that the relievers are going to be in tight situations a lot more often than normal.
  9. I don't know about Wuertz. Haven't we seen this act from him before? I seem to remember him starting out good one other year and then tanking. I'm not sure I would give him all that much more time. He seems to be unable to maintain any consistency over the long haul. Watch out soul! The ONE thing i've learned in my short time here is that you don't say ANYTHING bad about Wuertz. The amount of man-love for that guy is enormous here! Well allow me to apologize for all of the Wuertz lovers on the board. I'm sorry that we cheer for a guy who has a career 3.43 ERA in 162.2 IP and has been one of the teams best relievers over the past three years. How dare we cheer and like a good player. Maybe we should start to love Scott Eyre and Wade Miller instead.
  10. About time Gulati stopped jerking him around.
  11. By the way, if the time you're listing is central time, it should be 6 pm.
  12. I'll miss the first half of the game because I'm covering a soccer game but when I get back, I don't think I'll even bother tuning in.
  13. Don't even start thinking about it. Either the Mets or the Braves are gonna get it. Good point.
  14. Plus Murton is, by far, the most valuable trade chip of the three because of his age so he could be used to bring somebody in who will actually see the field regularly. Relief pitching, plz Trading Matt Murton for relief pitching would be downright stupid.
  15. The Giants aren't going to deal Lincecum. EDIT: And certainly not for a guy whose contract will run out at the end of the year and somebody they won't be able to resign.

Cotts's and Dempster's ERAs bring that down a whole lot. And Eyre's ERA brings it up a whole lot.

  18. Fair enough. I would still say that the Cardinals have a tougher interleague schedule than the Cubs do even if you classify the White Sox as good (and, that could go either way). But then the Cubs' schedule is probably the same as the Astros and Brewers if not a bit tougher.
  19. I knew the Cubs, well, the NL Central, would play less interleague games than the other divisions because there are more teams in that division but I figured the Cubs would play as many (certainly not 6 fewer) as the rest of the NL Central. I couldn't believe that the Cubs only had 12 and the Astros had 18 that I went over each teams's schedule at least 5 times to make sure I didn't miss any games or include too many.
  20. Consider me shocked not just that the Suns beat the Spurs tonight but in the way they didn't. I didn't see SA giving up and 8 point advantage going into the fourth quarter including a 10 point lead with 8:44 to go. You don't see the Spurs give away many leads like that.

  22. Um, Delgado is really struggling this year. Beltran is mashing. Walking Beltran is the way to go. Reyes scores from second on a single. It's not Lou's fault Wuertz couldn't throw strikes. Doesn't matter. With the bases loaded and the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, you have no margin for error. A wild pitch or passed ball, game over. A walk or HBP, game over. Any type of hit and the game is over. At least with runners on first and second, a WP/PB doesn't end the game. A BB/HBP doesn't end the game. An infield hit doesn't end the game. Even a hardhit ball to the outfield doesn't end the game (since the OF will likely be playing in in that situation for that very reason). Your margin for error is gone. I don't know about you, but I would rather have Beltran drive home the winning run with a hit than have Delgado get walked with the bases loaded. It was a bad idea to do that.
  23. i hate being right The problem is that the "pour it on" game is almost always followed by the "unable to score" game. At least with that scenario, the Cubs win one of the games.
  24. AND THAT IS WHY YOU DON'T BASICALLY INTENTIONALLY WALK A GUY TO LOADED THE BASES!! Idiots. Should have just pitched to Beltran. At least the Mets would have earned the win then.
