  1. I would see what Bonds would offer me knowing he would likely low ball my offer and would tell him I couldn't do it and say "I'm not worried about you. I take care of me."
  2. Agreed. I don't think it will be broken anytime soon especially considering how up and down a lot of relievers can be. If I had to bet on a guy to break the record, I would go with Francisco Rodriguez. Unless the record is "Most Horrific Arm Injury Ever," then I would have to eliminate K-Rod from the running. I mean, seriously, doesn't that guy have to tear something soon? I would nominate Papelbon from the Red Sox, but they seem intent on having him start at some point, so who knows. Yeah, I agree on Rodriguez. He's got 'Tommy John surgery' written all over him. I was speaking more from a 'young player who's a solid closer already' point of view. Papelbon would be up there but, like you said, the Red Sox will likely make him a starter.
  3. In Hill's starts this year the Cubs have scored: 1 run: 4 times 2 runs: 3 times 3 runs: 2 times 5 runs: 1 time 7 runs: 1 time 9 runs: 1 time Over half the time they have scored 2 or fewer and 3/4 of the time the Cubs have scored 3 or fewer runs. Stoopid Cobs offense.
  4. He should already be all-star bound. His #'s rank him in the top 5 pitchers in the NL He needs to get more wins - I'm not saying that wins determine how good a player is but that's what the people/person who selects the pitchers will look at.
  5. My thoughts as well. I would like to see him traded because I don't want to see him walk and see the Cubs get nothing but a compensation pick at the end of the year.
  6. I'm definitely disappointed that Daniel Descalso from UCD got drafted by the Cardinals. I guess I'll just have to hope he gets traded.
  7. Spurs in 6. They'll win Game 2 at home followed by the predictable Cleveland win in Game 3. SA will win one of the next two (I think they'll take Game 4) and go back to San Antonio up 3-2 to close it out at home.
  8. Why can't Landon just pretend he's playing Mexico every time out? He always seems to have good games against them. Completely agree. I don't know why he still gets called up all the time. I don't give a damn what he does in the MLS, look at what he does in international play which is virtually nothing.
  9. Cubs win behind another great start from Rich Hill. I like.
  10. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7718.jpg 1-2, 2.25 ERA, 1.05 WHIP Sunday vs Braves: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K vs. this guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7359.jpg 0-1, 18.00 ERA, 2.50 WHIP Sunday vs Cubs: 4 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 1 K The Cubs pounded Cormier on Sunday in his only appearance this year so there's no reason they shouldn't do it again.
  11. Wait, so Bob's not in last anymore? This is disappointing.
  12. Agreed. I don't think it will be broken anytime soon especially considering how up and down a lot of relievers can be. If I had to bet on a guy to break the record, I would go with Francisco Rodriguez.
  13. I don't mind him sitting out a game or two, but this better not turn into Soriano Part II where he sits on the bench for 10 days and Lou has to deal with a shorter bench solely because the Cubs don't want to put him on the DL.
  14. The one sketch from when Jeter hosted SNL was the Point/Counterpoint sketch. Point: "Derek Jeter sucks." Counterpoint: "No I don't."
  15. Funny, I think Corey II is exactly what he is. So far, he's shown great speed and flashes of a power bat while drawing one walk in 70 major-league PA for a .275 OBP. It seemed to me that Corey seemed to swing for the fences all the time rather than worrying about just making contact. I haven't seen Pie all that much yet (only some of the games he's played at the ML level) but he doesn't seem to be trying to hit the ball 500 feet every time he steps to the plate.
  16. Yeah. Even the unbelievably slow curveball El Duque occasionally throws still clocks in around 60 MPH so there's no way this is true.
  17. Since we've been discussing the 40 man roster a bit here, I figure I will ask this question: Is every team required to have 40 players on the 40 man roster or can they have less, i.e. can a team just have 39 players for a couple weeks if they choose to do so? This isn't in regards to anything in particular rather just a random question I was thinking about the other night.
  18. don't click on it I'll click on you I clicked your mom last night.
  19. I would keep him on the bench because he's facing the Indians so he gets a start under his belt first.
  20. I'm covering a Sacramento Monarchs game tonight (yeah, yeah, go ahead and make your jokes) and, if the Cubs win, I'll try to get the next game thread up during that game. It might be a little late, but I'll get it up.
  21. This isn't a golf tournament, Bob.
  22. Great, I get the dreaded 5-12 matchup. I guess it could be worse, I could have to face 1908 in the first round. There's no way I beat O_O in the second round though and, even if I miraculously did, I'm not beating Vance in the Sweet 16. BTW PingHitter, you have two No. 10 seeds in the West regional - illiniguy should be a No. 11 seed. As far as if people will get offended or not, I think as long as people adhere to the board rules of no personal attacks, everything should be fine.
  23. Big Fergie J is still nowhere to be found so I got the call from Laura to spot start again. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7578.jpg 4-4, 2.89 ERA, 1.03 ERA Saturday vs Braves: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K vs. this guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7629.jpg 5-4, 3.78 ERA, 1.52 WHIP Saturday vs Cubs: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 1 HR Hopefully the Hill can win the rematch between these two pitchers.
  24. Anaheim's fifth goal should just about end this thing.
