  1. I really hope that if the Cubs are winning big or losing big late in the game, they bean somebody else. The Braves deserve it.
  2. That's such crap. Why the hell would the umpire just warn Lilly first and then toss him? How does that make sense? That douche Renteria must have done some good talking on his way to the mound/first base.
  3. The optimist in me says Marshall.
  4. Bad top half of the inning for the Cubs.
  5. Alright UCI!! One Big West team in the College World Series and hopefully one more can advance tonight.
  6. Generally, yes. But they annoy me when they are used too often and in stupid cases. I prefer to use them to make sure people realize I'm being sarcastic with a post if I'm not sure everybody will understand.
  7. I always loved his goal against South Korea in the 2002 World Cup (right at the beginning). Nothing fancy. A perfect trap and he flat out buried the ball in the back of the net.
  8. Lee and Soriano stopped sucking for a couple of days Well, in that case, I hope you move up the leaderboard, not just because the Cubs would benefit but also because I have both players on my team.
  9. Even though the Cubs should win this game (please don't throw BP pitches, Ted), I have to say that it is good to know that, at the very least, the Cubs are guaranteed a split in Atlanta which is about what we could have hoped for coming in. That being said, I'll still be disappointed if we lose this one (again, please don't throw BP pitches, Ted).
  10. Well, I'm a bit disappointed as my run of starts is over. Oh well Did Marquis pitch as bad as his line looks? How did Gallagher look? EDIT: I went back and looked and saw that the Cubs win on 6/6 was the first win for a game thread I started. My record now sits at 3-2 on the year and 3-4 overall. I have to say, it was good to get off the schnide.
  11. Yeah, Lou pretty much tries to put the wrong relievers in, it's the only logical explanation. I was just going to post something about Gallagher not pitching. He's been up a couple days now, and hasn't pitched in quite some time since his last start. Why not let him get his feet wet in a blowout? Don't understand it at all. The only thing that makes sense is with Marquis and Lilly going the next 2 days, Lou wanted a long man just in case. Both of them last time out struggled so I think hes just covering his ass. Marquis didn't. You must not have watched him pitch. Marquis was in big trouble in the first and 2nd, and was saved by great defensive plays. He only lasted 5 innings I believe also, because of high pitch total. If thats not called struggleing then I dont know what is. Yeah, I didn't look at his line close enough when I was putting it in today's game thread. Ten baserunners (7 H and 3 BB) in 5.1 innings isn't too good. I just looked at the runs allowed.
  12. Excellent, I like this news a lot.
  13. I'm quite disappointed with his game today. Only three home runs? Does he really think that will endear him to the fans? Please, Alfonso. :D
  14. Wait, so Juan Pierre shouldn't be batting leadoff?
  15. Shared tears? How sweet. When is the wedding?

  17. Wow on Soriano. I love it. And another solid start from Marshall.
  18. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6493.jpg 5-2, 2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Monday vs Brewers: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K vs. this guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6245.jpg 6-4, 3.09 ERA, 1.12 WHIP Monday vs Marlins: 6 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 H, 5 K Hopefully both pitchers repeat their respective Monday performances on Saturday.
  19. I'm pretty sure the Cubs have, from time to time, held just 39, for one reason or another. They have. I think that's been more common during the off-season (to have room to add players to protect them from the Rule 5 draft), but I think it's happened during the season as well. I think there have been times they've traded a player on the 40-man for a player not on it, and they may leave the spot vacant until needed for a specific player rather than immediately adding somebody just to keep it full. Thanks (to goony and Bob also) for the answer. I thought that was the case but wasn't sure.

  21. A few years ago Mussina, as a Yankee, lost a perfect game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth against the Red Sox in Fenway.
