  1. The difference between Ohtani and most DH’s is that they tend to provide negative value with their legs because they’re big lumbering oafs. Assuming I’m looking at the right thing, Ohtani is second in both Fangraphs and B-R in baserunning value in the majors this year. So while he’s not playing the field, he provides value with his legs.
  2. They play Wed this week. But they still go Thu, Sun, Wed, Sat, Tue.
  3. I don't care about the Sox much either now that Hawk is gone. I think I figure as long as you're going to be ridiculously bad, you might as well be historically bad and set records. I don't think I'd be following any less if it was any other team going for the record instead.
  4. White Sox were down 2-0 going into the ninth and hit a 2-out 2-strike home run to tie it. The Padres had 1st and 2nd no out and 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom half but didn't score. Unfortunately, the White Sox didn't score in the 10th and it took the Padres 2 pitches to walk it off. 36-118. Also, Ohtani is at 52-52 now.
  5. So we have the new expanded Club World Cup every four years that was supposed to replace the old yearly version. Apparently the old version is sticking around under a different name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_FIFA_Intercontinental_Cup I hope the players strike happens because this is just getting stupid.
  6. He got it. He’s 5-5, 2 2B, 2 HR, 2 SB and 7 RBI today. Unreal.
  7. 49-51 now. He’s going to get another AB today too.
  8. 9 games left. Need to go 6-3 to avoid the most losses in a season and 3-6 to avoid the worst winning percentage ever.
  9. They need the Tigers to fall out of the race by the last series. Otherwise, that will be tough to do with SD and Det still on the schedule.
  10. 2024 White Sox: 36-116 1906 Cubs: 116-36
  11. Matt Adams signing a 1 day contract to retire as a Cardinal has to be one of the weirdest instances of that in sports. 4 full seasons with St Louis plus 3 partial seasons and only 513 games played.
  12. How so? By declining it, they picked up the 1st down on the next play which forced Atl to burn their 1st timeout before the 1st down play. Had they run it 3 times, Atl gets the ball back with just under a minute left. If they accept it, Atl wouldn't have had to use a timeout until after the 1st down play and could have gotten the ball back with 90-100 seconds left. Unless I'm missing something. The other thing was they probably should have just run the ball on 3rd down and gone for it on 4th. If you convert, game is over. If you don't, Atl gets the ball under a minute left needing 50 yards for a FG attempt. Teams tend to get more conservative once they're in FG range down 3 so it's unlikely you give up a TD there. So worst case scenario, you likely go to OT.
  13. For sure. Unless you’re generating good chances (which Spurs aren’t), it’s not going to get you very far.
  14. This is not a mistake. Missouri actually ran a play on 2nd and 59 on Saturday.
  15. White Sox won back to back games for the first time since the end of June.
  16. Ange better figure some shit out quickly or else he'll be out of a job soon. After picking up 26 points out of 30 to start last year, Spurs have only 44 points in 32 games since. They really good at moving the ball around and maintaining possession but really struggle to generate good chances. They basically did nothing the last two games against Newcastle and Arsenal. They didn't have a single good chance today and their best two chances against Newcastle were the own goal and a near own goal. If you're supposed to be an offensive minded coach, your team should probably be better offensively.
  17. Seeing a QB named Manning run for a 67 yard TD...
  18. That was bad from Busch too. He needs to just stay at third. Obviously PCA was more at fault though.
  19. He was worth 10 bWAR/9fWAR last year despite not playing in Sept. He's at 7.2/6.8 this year. Torn UCL didn't bother him hitting at all this year so yeah, it's worth it. I suppose you could argue if he gave up pitching, he could then play in the field somewhere which would likely give his WAR a boost since he'd probably turn into a gold glover in the field too.
  20. 33-114. So they’d have to go 10-5 to avoid 120 losses, 9-6 to avoid 121 losses and 7-8 to avoid winning less than 40 games. The only positive is they play the A’s 3 times and Angels 6 times. EDIT: After the game on July 5, they were 26-64 which means they’re 7-50 since then.
  21. Would have been nice if they had actually scored some runs against the Yankees. Only allowing 6 runs but losing the series was annoying.
  22. Only 7 teams in the Modern Era have lost more games in a season than the WS have.
  23. In Tyreek Hill vs. the police, there are no good guys.
