  1. Valdez’s reaction was that of a guy who knew what he had done and didn’t care.
  2. For me it would take a lot more than just catching the Brewers to top Jake’s WC game against Pitt and donging the Cardinals out of the playoffs in 2015.
  3. And they play the Mets and Padres the next two series so even if by some chance they go 5-1 or 6-0, that’s still a net positive for us. That being said, they’re cooked. They’re as close to Miami as they are to the Mets and are only 1 game over .500.
  4. 5 back. Come on Philly, help us out the next two days.
  5. The 2013 Cardinals had a batting line of .269/.332/.401 over 6202 PA. Of those, 1621 came with RISP and in those situations, the 2013 Cardinals hit .330/.402/.463. The second best team that year hit .282 with RISP. The Cardinals had a .377 BABIP with RISP and No. 2 was at .321. In 2012, the Cardinals hit .264 with RISP with a .293 BABIP. In 2014 they hit .254 with RISP with a .294 BABIP. Sometimes the stats don’t even out even over the course of a full season. EDIT: Google tells me that from 1974, the first year of reliable RISP stats, through 2013, the previous best BA with RISP was .311 by the 2007 Tigers. So the 2013 Cardinals hit 19 points better than any other team in the 40 years prior.
  6. I happened to see the score at one point when it was 7-7. Guess it was all downhill from there.
  7. 5.5 back. Still not getting my hopes up but I’ll take it.
  8. Brewers just tied the game on a walk, single, walk and a single that hit off the mound and went under the glove of the diving shortstop. If he keeps it in the infield the Brewers only get 1 run. Oh and all of that happened with 2 outs.
  9. I was just following up on the thread title.
  10. Lol, he lasted three games.
  11. I'm not throwing it out. But going forward if you're asking me which version of the Cubs offense we're more likely to see, I think we can both agree that it's the June-August offense rather than the April-May offense. Does that mean there's no way the April-May offense comes back in Sept and Oct? No, of course not. But I certainly wouldn't bet on it.
  12. So we shouldn't cherry pick a specific date to make our argument but it's okay to say we're 8-6 in the last 14 while playing - except for 3 games - at least decent baseball teams? Got it. I don't care about the idiots who think this isn't playoff team. They're not serious people. I think most people, like myself, are concerned that this team went on an offensive heater for 2 months and have been a .500 team for 3 months which, last time I checked, is half the season.
  13. Maybe those teams are slightly above average as well. I don't know. I haven't looked at their extended stretches. But when a team goes on an offensive heater for 2 months at a rate only a handful of teams have ever done, that's not sustainable. Through April, the Cubs were on pace to score 961 runs, which only 21 teams have ever done since 1900. Through May, they were on pace to score 933 runs, which only 39 teams have ever done. That wasn't going to continue. And when it didn't, the Cubs stopped playing like a 100 win team and started playing like an 84 win team. Each full season from 2017 to 2023 featured 3+ teams that won 100 games. Last year there were none and this year, unless somebody goes like 21-5, there might only be 1 in Milwaukee (and Milwaukee would have to go 15-9 to do it). So these last two years have been different from what we got used to.
  14. Cubs were 38-22 on June 3. They’re now 78-59. So they’ve gone 40-37 the past 3 months, which is an 84 win pace. It’s pretty clear that the first two months of the season were the fluky portion, but sure, keep telling us that a team that’s played .500 ball for the last 3 months is good. Yes they’ll be in the playoffs and yes they definitely could win a round or two, or even win the whole thing. But this team is very likely a slightly above average team.
  15. In comes Porter Hodge to put the game out of reach.
  16. I’m saying Busch should have stayed at first, Boyd gets the ball and throws to first to get the out. Once Busch goes after the ball they have no choice but to go home.
  17. Busch should probably have let Boyd take that and just gotten the out at first, right?
  18. Lol. They just zoomed in on a dejected Bama fan and he flipped off the camera.
  19. Yeah, I’m not a QB expert but he doesn’t seem all that great.
