It’s cool. We’ve got 3 1st round picks in the draft next year and that’s basically the same as winning a Super Bowl. They traded away 2 1st rounders. Net gain of 1 extra first round pick. Likelihood that any of the 3 first rounders are Khalil Mack good? Not likely. Picks in the top 10? Their own. Bears and Dallas picks will likely be no better than late teens. In 7 seasons with Tampa, Gruden drafted 61 players and only 3 ever made a pro bowl. 2 guards and Aqib Talib. Talib didn't become a pro-bowler until he got to NE. Which 1st round picks did the Raiders trade away? Mack was two firsts, a third and a sixth for Mack, a second and a fifth and they got a first for Cooper. And don’t get me wrong, the Raiders are a disaster and a joke.

To be fair the Cubs and Red Sox are only time this decade. A lil pissed Red Sox one because before this year Cubs were arguably the best World Series Champion since the 114 win Yankees in the late 90s. Red Sox had the best record in 2013. And I know you said this decade but there's also the 2009 Yankees and the 2007 Red Sox. So that's 5 times out of the last 12 World Series that the best record in the majors won the title. Before 2007 you'd have to go back to the 1998 Yankees for the next one. So like usual, Smoltz has no idea what he's talking about.

Klay hit 14 3's tonight in only 27 minutes. He had made only 5 3's in 7 games this year but hit 6 in the first quarter.

Phillies are favored for Machado, Harper, co favorites for Pollack (+150), tied for second on Donaldson (+250), tied for third on Kimbrel (+500) and tied for fourth on Keuchel (+650). Just tells me the bookies are pretty confident Philly will overpay for someone.

That was dumb to throw the ball to first. You’re straight on with the runner. Odds are nothing good is going to come from that.

Wish Heyward had leaned into a pitch like Freese just did in the Wild Card game.

Rodriguez should have been able to go 75% and gotten to second safely. Could have killed a potential big inning.

Yeah, once you slip you either just eat it or take the extra second to set your feet. Definitely had more time to make the play. At the very least you have to keep the runner at third.

Why? Let's the opposing pitcher get into a rhythm and repeatable approach. Giving him a different look once or twice in the lineup forces him to adjust Sure helped Sale get into a rhythm in Game 1 when he gave up 3 runs and 7 baserunners in 4 innings. He also gave up just as many runs, just as many baserunners and struck out fewer batters the second time through the order. Price was also worse the second time through (0-8 with a walk and 3 Ks the first time vs 3-6, 2 BB and 2 Ks the second), though the Dodgers were 0-6 the third time.

Muncy, Bellinger and Pederson combined for a whopping 15 HR vs LHP. Bellinger had a .681 OPS vs LH and Pederson had a .512. How did sitting those guys work out for him? There’s an alternate universe where Roberts started all three guys in both games, they went a combined 1-14 with 8 Ks off Sale and Price and lost all three games, and alternate universe Derwood is laughing at Roberts for not starting righties instead.

Machado also posted a .265 BABIP last year while his career average is .301 and was worth at least 6 fWAR and 5.7 bWAR in three of the last four years. Happ needed a .362 BABIP this year just to have the line he did. He was in the .310’s in 2016 in AA as well as in AAA and the majors last year. I know you weren’t making the argument that Happ > Machado or anything like that.

I went to google the Donaldson thing and he also threw his helmet down at Donaldson after Donaldson tagged him out running to third rather than throwing to first.

3rd time this series. There will be some puffed-chest shoving before this series is over. Yawn. The two slides from yesterday or am I forgetting one? The second slide yesterday (the one that they reviewed and correctly ruled interference on) didn't seem as much cheap or dirty as it was just incredibly stupid.
