  1. The Reds and Pirates having the same record but the Reds being +120 in RD is hilarious.
  2. So I think we can all agree that the last two days have been enjoyable (maybe not the first 7 innings on Sunday but I'm not going to nitpick). Teheran pitched well against the Cubs in Atlanta but things didn't go so well for him tonight. Let's do the same thing to Fried. Keep that payback coming. Go Cubs!
  3. I've got to say I'm surprised that it wasn't McCann behind the plate tonight getting into it with Contreras, although he must have rubbed off on Flowers. McCann is a notorious anti-fun horsefeathers.
  4. First Game Thread win of the year and it feels good. I was behind 0-2 but just like Javy, I came through when needed. Cubs got swept in Atlanta in the beginning of the year so it’s time for some payback. Go Cubs!
  5. *checks Descalso's OPS since, well, any date you want to measure it from* Nope. Doesn't make me feel any better. Not so fun fact! Descalso went 8-16 to start the year with a 1.279 OPS. Since then, he's at .148/.262/.219.
  6. That was a solid fake rally by the Cards.
  7. The Brewers version of Schwarber Fan thinks the Cubs are hot again.
  8. JAVY SAYS horsefeathers YOUR FAKE RALLY
  9. Since I mentioned 2016, I went back and looked at some of the threads from the 2016 playoffs. It put me in a much better mood. You guys should try it.
  10. Much like the Cubs, it would appear my Game Thread starting skills peaked in 2016. Hope this series ends like the White Sox series did with the Cubs lighting up the opposing team's ace. Go Cubs!
  11. Well at least the Brewers lost so that's good. Would be nice to pull away from them a bit but at least we're still 1.5 up. Cards only 2 back now though.
  12. You’ve been on this board a decade and you’re just now realizing this?
  13. MAYBE in the offseason it would an avenue to explore but unlikely. Q has a cheap option for next year and we need SP and augmenting the 5th spot next year with Adbert next year without spending on it can open up some money to build out the rest of the roster on offense or bullpen. I doubt Q can return anything right now that makes us better for the year and it's probably a toss up in the offseason too. There's ways to work Adbert in (regardless of Hendricks health) this year to maximize things. I figure a Lester trip to the IL, real or made up, is all but an inevitably (and maybe more than once), so that alone is probably going to get him a decent amount of starts. But yeah, the Cubs are nowhere near any kind of pitching depth where they could consider trading a starter. And if you really want to keep him up when Hendricks gets back, just go to a 6 man rotation for a while, especially if we have a long stretch with no off days. No harm in giving our guys an extra day of rest each time through.
  14. Yikes If the kid can take a spot next year is it really crazy to consider? At this point I would pay Hamels for a couple more years. We are stuck with Lester and Darvish and we extended Hendricks. Not saying they pull the trigger but do you at least see if you can get something? Hendricks is on the IL already and pitchers get injured all the time. When Hendricks comes back and Adbert either stays in the pen or AAA for the rest of the year, that's great because it means nobody else got hurt.
  15. reminds me of one of my favorite non-cubs baseball moments ever McCarver going "oh boy" right after he gets picked off is amazing.
  16. That was glorious. After they got away with sending Martinez in a very dumb way. That was my thought also. There's two outs and you're down 2. He's scoring on any hit anyway and he's not the tying run. No need to risk him getting thrown own at home.
  17. Cards put in Flaherty to pinch run for Molina at second in the 11th, down 7-6. He wasn’t paying close enough attention and got picked off to end the game.
  18. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27013139/dodgers-hill-left-forearm-il-mri-thurs
  19. Jimenez was done with AA and AAA by 22, having run through the levels at 20 and 21. He was only in the minors for his age 21 and some of his age 22 seasons because teams manipulate service time and openly tank in this proud era of baseball. Schwarber was a year older at the same level. It’s not like there was a 3-4 year age difference. And Eloy this year is the same age as Schwarber was in 2015 when he got called up. So far, BA and SLG are essentially the same but Schwarber has 45 points of OBP on Eloy. Both struck out at 28%. You might end up being right. Eloy might end up being a way better hitter than Schwarber. But he hasn’t been so far in the majors at the same age and when he was a year younger in AA and AAA, their numbers were probably pretty similar, when you adjust Schwarber’s BABIP down.
  20. I feel like I'm the only one actually looking at Eloy's performances in pro ball right now rather than going with some generalization of. He's been that! At 20-22 the guy put up something like .335/.385/.570 with a 16% K rate and 26 HRs in 551 PAs between AA and AAA. That is incredible hitting! I read this situation as some Cubs fans over correcting for overrating Schwarber as a prospect Schwarber had a 1.022 OPS across AA and AAA at age 22. He hit 16 HRs in 310 PAs, which is a pace of 28.5 for 551 PAs. Schwarber did have an unsustainable BABIP of around .390-.400 though. He then came up and put up a .842 OPS in the majors at 22. Jimenez has a .798 OPS so far this year in around 80 less PAs. K rates are basically the same in the majors at 28-29% and Schwarber nearly walked twice as often. People might be underrating Eloy but it seems like you might be underrating what Schwarber did in the minors and before he blew out his knee. And to be fair, we'll never know how much, if at all, that affected Schwarber's development.
  21. Well we didn’t get Harper so someone on the team has to do it.
