  1. I watched the top of the first before we went out to dinner. I was still following on At-Bat but once things started going well, I did the logical thing and never turned the game on. Until the top of the ninth, at least. I figured things were safe by that point.
  2. LOL. That’s pretty crazy. There would be at least 10 people on this board whose heads would have exploded if the roles were reversed today and the Cubs did the same thing.
  3. It pretty much comes down to Durant. If he comes back, even if he's not fully healthy, the Warriors can definitely win the series, even if he's not 100%. Even if he doesn't, they're good enough to win it, though I don't think they will. They need Durant. They're a championship team without him, but they're not unbeatable. During their first two runs without him, they won 67 and 73 games, but also fell behind 2-1 to the Grizzlies and the Cavs the first year, fell behind 3-1 to the Thunder and then blew a 3-1 lead to the Cavs. Durant makes them unbeatable. I don't think Durant is playing this series. I think the injury is more serious than they've let on and it's a bit of gamesmanship on their part to not announce his status until before each game. Definitely happy for the Raps. Hope they can close it out in front of their fans on Monday.
  4. Good thing Strop got the call on strike 3 against Dex.
  5. I have an irrational hatred of when the 8 hitter hits into a double play to end the inning so the pitcher has to lead off the next one.
  6. He wanted Chapman/Jansen money/years and they are arguably better than him and were much younger when they signed their deals. He was also not good after the ASB last year. 4.57 ERA in the regular season and 5.91 in the playoffs. 23 walks in those 32 innings. One blowup against Baltimore (4 R in 1/3 IP) skews the regular season numbers but he did give up a run in 5 of his 9 playoff appearances.
  7. They have reached the easy part of their schedule per Brewers fans. Then baseball happens. It is just one game. They win the next two and it’s an okay series for them.
  8. 11 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H , 1 BB, 12 K and a .374 OPS allowed (before today). A .125 BABIP but it would be huge if he’s back to normal.
  9. You want this team to fail. I get it. You wanted the same thing last year also. I do believe in this team and think they’re going through a rough stretch. Does that mean they will be fine? Of course not. But yes, I do think they’re a good team. Regardless of what I think about them, you implying a 5-6 game deficit to the Brewers is insurmountable is absurd. I didn't say it was insurmountable. You implied that it would be no big deal because past teams did it, and I pointed out the problem with that thinking. This is after you moved the goal posts from when you previously said the brewers schedule didnt matter and that they wouldnt pull ahead of the cubs. I get it, I whine in game threads a lot. but right now the organization really isnt in a very good spot going forward, so maybe you should accept that. I understand that we should be thankful for what the Cubs have done in the last 5 years, but the actions of the organization in the last couple years dont warrant your defense. they should be criticized heavily for what they're doing. Sorry for misinterpreting your predictably overly pessimistic post as you saying the Cubs wouldn't be able to overturn a 5-6 game deficit, even though I'm sure you believe it. The reason for my response, which you clearly didn't understand, was that the Cubs have literally already come back from 5.5 games back to take first place this season. And they did it within a month. Where did I say they definitely 100% wouldn’t pull in front of the Cubs? I might have said I didn’t believe they would or predicted it wouldn't happen, but that’s different from me saying the Brewers have no chance to do so. As for the schedule, I never said that it didn't matter. I'm guessing you're remembering this post where I simply said that their schedule until the All-Star wasn't that much easier than ours. Since then the Brewers haven't been impressive. They lost series to Atlanta and Philly, split with Minnesota and Cincy and beat Pittsburgh 3 of 4. They caught us because we're currently playing like crap, though also against generally decent to good teams. On a related note, it's good to see you understand what "moving the goalposts" means about as well as you understand how in season team win total projections work. The Cubs have won 90+ games and made the playoffs four straight years and, even after this slump, are still on pace to win 88, which means they're a good week from being on pace to win 90+ again. As for going forward? I understand the frustration that we're not the Astros right now. I think we all harbored visions of running off high 90's to low 100's wins like they are for a few years after what we did in 2015 and 2016. But there are a bunch of teams that are in a worse spot going forward. We still have a decent amount of talent and ownership is still willing to run a $200M payroll. As for looking more than like 2 years in the future for projecting, I don't think there's much of a point in doing that. Things change really quickly. I'm not defending the organization. I'm looking at the team this year and saying they're not nearly as bad as you're making them out to be. If you want to be pessimistic and look at the glass as half empty all the time, be my guest. I prefer to try to be optimistic about things. I don't do it all the time, but it's a much more enjoyable existence.
  10. even you know your heart isnt behind this post this team is a shell of what they used to be. expecting anything based on what they've done in previous years is pointless. they are not those teams, and we all knew it going into the season. they're a slightly above average team. You want this team to fail. I get it. You wanted the same thing last year also. I do believe in this team and think they’re going through a rough stretch. Does that mean they will be fine? Of course not. But yes, I do think they’re a good team. Regardless of what I think about them, you implying a 5-6 game deficit to the Brewers is insurmountable is absurd, which was the whole point of my post.
  11. That would be terrible because this team hasn’t shown the ability to ever erase a 5-6 game deficit and reclaim first place.
  12. Didn’t even cuss at the ump. I thought for sure the pitcher must have dropped an f bomb in there but he just said “that’s horrible.”
  13. Did you want him to burn a couple good relievers when we’re losing? Brach and Cishek pitched yesterday. If you think Kintzler is good, he pitched also. I’m fine with wanting Joe gone but I’m not sure what else he should have done that inning.
  14. Please be good tomorrow, Cole. Don’t want to get swept.
  15. Man that was unlucky. Should have been two runs.
  16. Was just about to post that they might as well have left Chatwood in to bunt and the Descalso does that.
  17. And Vazquez blows it right back. 10-10 now.
  18. Hader comes in with a one run lead and goes double, singles, K, home run to blow the lead.
  19. This feels like a perfect time to stump for my idea for indirect free kicks to be given for unintentional handballs like the one today. It deflected off the shoulder first and grazed the arm, it didn't prevent a great chance for Liverpool and another Tottenham player would have ended up with the ball anyway so Spurs didn't gain any advantage from the ball hitting the arm. Just give an indirect free kick and move on. It just puts the refs in a tough position on some of these to either call a PK and give a team a 75% (or whatever it is) chance at a goal or to call nothing. One team is going to feel screwed over. You can still give out PK's for things like intentional handballs or when a team gains a huge advantage from the hand ball. But giving the refs the option for an indirect free kick is a nice middle ground.
  20. All of the AAA stats are also a compelling case.
