  1. If Ryan Harvey can developed into a Carlos Lee type complimentary banger, I will be more then happy. And I am glad he is turning his season around.
  2. Dear Santee Claus; If you can get the Tigers to trade of Nefti Perez, I won't ask for anything else for XMAS this yr. I suuuuuwear. Please!!!!!!!!
  3. I can't find a source (maybe somebody can help me), but I remember BBTN saying the Red Sox also pick Carlos Pena up off waivers from the Yankees. Don't know how the Red Sox are going to find time for Hinske/Pena when they have Wily Mo/Greek God of Walks/Lowell/Ramirez/Ortiz at the corner positions/DH.
  4. I think we all agree, that watching Mateo, a rookie who appear to be fearless, and not intimadated by Clemens, go after Clemens a "legendary HOF pitcher, known for his intimadation" and simply bean him, to protect his teammates. I love it, and just when Karros became a "Cubs" officially when he hit the 3 run homerun off Acevedo to prevent Clemens 300th, I believe Mateo hitting Clemens, Juan officially became a "Cub." And, I am willing to bet that after he did hit Clemens, he earn the clubhouse respect. A rookie hitting Clemens......Gosh darn, that was a heck of a sight.
  5. Rookie comes out of no where and pitches a shut out was a better story than veteran returns to his old stomping grounds and gets pounded by his old team ;) I don't know if the Astros would have pounded Miller, after last night's game, plus their offense is pretty Cubbyesque. Nonetheless, I'm glad Hendry decide on O'Malley instead of giving into Baker and his disturbing need for horse, Miller.
  6. Being better than Roger is an accomplishment, Andy? Not so much. True. But didn't he shut out the Cubs twice this year? Once a MMP and once at Wrigley, I think. Although I'm not positive on that. The only time the Cubs had been shut-out by the Stros was June 7, and the Astros started a rookie by the name of Chris Sampson. Pettite has NOT shut out the Cubs this yr.
  7. There were only 39 people on the 40-man roster because Miller is on the 60-day DL. Interesting that Williams or Ryu wasn't recalled... I think it was a matter of finding the guy who had the appropriate rest. So O'Malley was a winner by default. Kinda like Girardi making the All Star team a few yrs back.
  8. FWIW; Arizona won their marathon game in the 18th, also. 2-1. I wonder when was the last time, MLB had two games go 18 innings in the same night? :-k
  9. If he still starts later today....I'll personally kill Dusty with my own hands...and post the pictures too. If Dusty does start Hill tomorrow, I will help you.
  10. Nah, man, the kid can throw a Complete game, 1 hit shut out of the Cubs, RIGHT NOW, man. That's completely ridiculous. You don't know if he's left-handed or not yet. Does it matter? 8)
  11. Look, I am as about annoyed as anyone about Baker trying to ride Z for some extra meaningless wins to pack his resume, but I was more upset with Baker for allowing Marmol to throw over 100 pitches in 5 innings, after he had walk 8 batters. That was SOOOO unnecessary Baker simply does NOT know how to run a pitching staff, and every Cub fan in Chicago, and around the country should be bitter at Baker, for possibly ruining two young pitchers, for the benefit of trying to pad his reume.
  12. First: After the past couple of yrs, the Cub players haven't earned the right for their names to be put back on the jersey. I like the nameless jersey, because you can't necessarily call one player out, you have to call out the whole team. Leave the names off the jersey. And take the pinstripes off. Second: I absolutely love the blue jersey.
  13. Nah, man, the kid can throw a Complete game, 1 hit shut out of the Cubs, RIGHT NOW, man.
  14. You're assuming that Marmol will always have control problems. But considering the fact that Marmol is still relatively new to pitching, I can see him developing better command and feel for pitching each yr. So, yes, I do believe Marmol will become an excellent closer in a few yrs.
  15. I think he would be worth a look. But seeing as Hendry is focus on Cedeno being the 2b next yr (with Fontenot and The Riot right behind him), I don't see Hendry going after Cantu. And the ONLY way I see him going after Cantu, it would be as a backup plan for losing ARam.
  16. Come one dude, the Cubs have to stuff his resume with meaningless wins, so he can fool another team into giving him BIG money, dude,
  17. I thought the #2 spot is where you put your inferior middle infiedler who can't hit, at.
  18. Merker was going to retire after the season, anyways, this injury just truly confirms it.
  19. I'd be fine with Wuertz as a closer. I just think that Marmol could be a dominate type closer. I see your point about keeping him as a starter and I would like to see this if Dempster is traded or hurt. First: I wouldn't worry about Marmol lack of control, FOR NOW. Once he gets comfortable in the majors, and learn to trust his stuff, and listen to the catcher, he will be fine, control wise. Second: I do believe Marmol long-term role will be closer, and I like to see him in that role by no later then 2008.
  20. And throws 452 pitches in doing so, thereby rendering him armless for the rest of his natural life. But dude, the dude ain't tired, dude. He's strong, dude.
  21. Of course it does. Not only did LA get Maddux but they also dumped salary. Jeez our GM is TERRIBLE. WHy in the world would we want Izturis here? He brings nothing to the table as far as I'm concerned. I disagree. Hendry has been less terrible then more recent GMs in the franchise history, but has made his fair shares of mistakes. Now the Izturis/Maddux deal, that is Karma coming back and biting Hendry in the butt. We won the Hundley for Karros/Grudz deal, the Dodgers win the Maddux/Izzy deal. Eye for an eye. Who cares about GM franchise history? The simple fact is Hendry sucks right now. He's terrrible. First: I was being abit tongue in cheek, and if it didn't come through, then I apologize. Second: Sucks is too strong of a word.....
  22. Which is why, I call Dusty Baker, "The Paris Hilton of baseball managing." And right now, I would take Lassie as manager of the Cubs over a guy, who doesn't beileve in "OBP" is a vital stat.
