  1. Like: The Cubs season ends in early October Dislike: Baker won't be "re-signed" till after the World Series. Other then that, nothing strikes me much about this team.
  2. Pie's not the only one who could use some work on baserunning, bunting (meh) and overaggressiveness at the plate. Maybe they should just demote the Cubs? The non call up is definately good news. And I think this snippet is what going to separately Felix Pie to Corey Patterson. I like the fact that he was "upset' at not getting call up, went out and had a good game, and then found his coach and asked him what he could do better. I like that fire that Pie has shown, and Patterson NEVER showed. I really hope this stop the comparasion between Pie and Patterson. I think Felix now understand what he needs to do to get better, and EARN the callup. Whereas Patterson, just went along with the program. I like this fired Pie just showed.
  3. Dead last in the NL. It sure took longer than expected. We need KC to get extremely hot, and Dusty continue to manage the way he has. If both happens, #1 pick here we come.
  4. Yeah, apparently Villalona was already taken and I missed it, so I went with Monterro. I'm hoping Suarez or the ND WR/P (dont wanna even try spelling his name w/o looking it up) are available next time my pick comes around. I think Suarez (at age 16) is a safer pick than Samardzija. Perhaps if "Shark" would focus on baseball, maybe that would change.
  5. This is the same GM who thought Dusty was the "right man" for the job after 2002. So, right now I have no confidence in Hendry's choice of who will be "the right man."
  6. It's equal in terms of blame, neely. Hendry: for putting together a 6th place team in the NL Central, together. Baker: for giving up on the season when Derrek Lee went down to injury, a yr after giving up on the season when Nomar went down. players: 10% for simply not playing to their abilities.
  7. Bill Wirts, the Blackhawks owner, thinks he can do worse. David Glass of the Royals thinks he has a strong case. James Dolan of the Knicks wants a piece of this action. Donald Sterling of the Clippers puts his team into the fold of worst run. And will, I do I agree the Cubs are a pretty bad organization is sports, I can still think of a few teams that are worse in their history then the Cubs.
  8. October 2003 :x (I don't care that only two of them are left, and one from that team is one of the few good things about our team.) It's not the Marlins fault that Alou couldn't make a catch, or AGone fielding a ground ball, or Mark Prior unravaling THAT fast. It's not the Marlins fault the Cubs pitchers allow them to come back and win both games in Chicago. October of 2003, is strictly on the Cubs, and not the Marlins. Fact: I absolutely love how the Marlins are playing right now. And if Loria is stupid enough to let Girardi go, I want the Cubs to sign him before Loria has second thoughts.
  9. At the time of the trade Williams and Aardsma was consider a robbery of the Giants. On September 5, 2006, that deal is still considered a robbery. Getting two young and viable arms like Aardsma and Williams for a middle reliever was and is consider a move that 95% MLB teams would have made. Now if the two young arms don't reach their potential at their new destination, that's a different story. Bottomline: Williams/Aardsma for Hawkins was and still is consider a steal.
  10. I never understood why people think the Cubs would be better off moving Barrett to another position (3rd or LF are the two most common destinations for Barrett) and going after a defensive catcher. First: Moving Barrett's above-average offensive numbers at catcher to another position, like 3rd or LF, would make them more average numbers for their position. In other words, taking an above average catcher, and moving him to an at best average 3rd base or LF weaknens not one position but two. Which brings me to..... Second: Going after a defensive catcher, is not a smart thing to do, especially if it is to start 140 games. There is a reason why those kinds of players are considered a DEFENSIVE minded, because they simply couldn't hit little league pitching, much less major league pitcher. I don't mind a defensive minded catcher (like Blanco, etc) as a BACKUP---where a defensive minded catcher is more useful---but as a starter, no way. Moving Barrett weakens two positions, offensively, and right now the Cubs can't afford to weaken an already weak offense. I can leave with Barrett being an "Average at best" catcher defensively, then a defenisvely minded catcher who is "crappy at best" offensively.
  11. I might be one of the few that actually still likes Novoa potential (looking back, maybe the Cubs should've asked for Rodney, but I digress) and still believe that he can be a decent 6th/7th inning kind of guy. The problem is Baker thinks Novoa can be a set-up man, which is absolutely not true. And while Novoa does deserve the "crap" type negative thoughts, I do believe he will be a fine reliever, just not with the Cubs.
  12. Reid is already a fan favorite here in Central Alabama. Evan continues to be mess with because of his name. Evan has had trouble putting the ball in play since being call up to AA, but he has shown some outstanding power. Jeremy Owens is a decent OFer. Jeff Neiman (Newman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) or whoever you spell his last name is prolly the best overall prospect on the team. No disrespect to Longoria and Brignac. No, in terms of overall prospect, Longoria should be rated higher (especially given Neimann's injury past). I still believe Neiman (sp?) is a better prospect(we'll agree to disagree), but because Longoria is a position player, he'll have more impact. I believe you'll see Neiman in the elite pitching prospects before you see Longoria in the elite hitting prospect. Nonetheless, regrettably, the DRays have a brighter future then the Cubs. :(
  13. Why because they were at the NBA Finals recently? The Knicks are a BAD organization, regardless of "the body of work." And the fact is....the Knicks are still a pretty bad organization.
  14. Paging New York Knicks, paging New York Knicks... The Knicks? At least they won a couple of titles in the 70's and made the finals a few times in the 90's. The Knicks only made the Finals once in the 90's. 1994 Finals when they lost in 7 games to the Rockets in a series that took a backseat to OJ fleeing cops at 30mph on the LA freeway. Nonetheless, the Knicks are still a pretty badly runned organization, especially under Dolan. And fluke seasons don't change that fact. Just look at the salary of Knicks for confirmation.
  15. My guess is Scott Moore. With a chance the Cubs go after a David Bell type stopgap.
  16. I'm sure Jason Isringhausen still wants to be a starter. What about Bill Pulsipher? He is a lefty.
  17. Who thinks Baker is going to have trouble finding another team to manage? (outside of maybe San Fran.
  18. I mean, Derek Jeter isn't exactly good glove calber at SS, either (regardless of the overhype the New York media gives the player), and yet all he does his play a solid SS, and produces. If Moore can show he is atleast adequate at SS (in time move over to third, if need be), then he could move up faster.
  19. Yes they were. Three weeks ago they were the favorite in the East.. Gotta disagree. The loss of Damon really hurt that team. Not as much as you think. Had Coca Crisp stay healthy, I seriously doubt you would have made that statement. IMO, losing Damon pretty much had no affect on the season. Now losing Jason Varitek (the heart and soul, the Captain) to injury, now THAT was a major blow. You can replace what Damon brought to the team, but you couldn't replace what Varitek brought.
  20. Personally, I would like to see if the Cubs can acquire Scot Shields. If the Angels didn't have this F-Rod guy closing, Shields would be their closer. And NO, I don't support Wuertz for closer, simply because closer are ask to work anywhere from 2-4 days in the row (depending on the smarts of the manager) and Wuertz has yet to master pitching solidly on back-to-back outings. So, I prefer to leave Wuertz as a middle reliever.
  21. Maris doesn't hold any records. /technicality police II'm going to go with stitchface here, and say....that Maris still holds the record for most LEGAL homeruns in MLB.
  22. Heck no, I don't want him to get used to losing.
  23. Wasn't this the same guy that after he was dealt to the Cubs, said he prefer the NL style of ball over the AL? So, isn't kind of odd that he would initiate a trade to an AL team? Wants to play for a contender + no NL contenders have an opening at 1B = Nevin taking what he can get. Plus Nevin really being a DH and the NL not having the DH. I still find it odd.
