  1. Quick, name the last manager of the Cubs, who enjoy even remote success with another team, after leaving Chicago? My guess is...Baker will struggle to keep a job for even as long as he did in Chicago.
  2. When the new manager arrives (coughsGirardicoughs) he should make two decisions (regardless of financial commitments): 1: Ronnie Cedeno should start 2007 in AAA, until he proves he can be a ML hitter. Theriot has shown he is a better 2B, offensively and defensively, then Cedeno. 2: Dempster CANNOT go into 2007 as the undisputed closer. Regardless of what Baker says (he won't be here, anyways), Dempster must fight for the job. I like to see an opening audition of Wood .v. Dempster .v. Marmol or whatnot. Personally if Wood is healthy, I would like to see Kerry as closer in 2007.
  3. Yes he does!!!! Right back to the dugout after THE strikeout
  4. Now if Gary Gillette would quit spending sp much time to find names that make the Cubs look silly, maybe he would be taken seriously. I bet he spent ALL NIGHT thinking about "Flubs."
  5. On Vicente Padillia: http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/padilvi01.shtml He's really been an average a best during his career. And he hasn't been even solid for 2 yrs now. And even looking at his 2006 numbers, he is no better then the rookie pitchers we already have on the time. So unless Padillawould look to become a closer, I would stay away from Padilla, because he reeks of medocrity. On Zito/Schdmit: I believe Zito is earmarked for New York (either team) and Jason Schimdt is headed for Seattle or even Baltimore. There's nothing written, nor said that I can use to back it up, it's more of a feeling. I mean, the Cubs are going to be filling out a NEW coaching staff after the season (and unless they do that very quickly), which MIGHT either make players hesitant of considering the Cubs, or scared off. So, I would say make backup plans on pitching possibilities. On Angel Guzman: I would like to see the Cubs follow the Astros (did with Roy Oswalt in his rookie season) and the White Sox (with Brandon McCarthy the last yr and a half) and have Guzman as a long relief, and then move him to a rotation spot when one opens. It would allow him to get comfortable at the major league level, his innings would be limited, and he would have a chance to build up his stamina.
  6. So we all agree that Baker is a double-standard buffoon, who shouldn't be "babysitting" a major league team. I say babysitting, because you can't call what he does "managing", cause the only thing he is managing to do, is make himself look like an idiot. Pierre is thrown out trying to steal third, and he gets a pass because he is a "vet." Theriot gets thrown out at third, and is call out as being a player from the "College World Series and he should have known." To me, that sounds like Baker is calling Pierre an idiot, inadvertly. But hey, Baker will be gone soon enough, and we can laugh at another teams "stupidity" for snatching Baker.
  7. I say Thomas stays in Oakland.
  8. Agree. What makes the Mays catch even MORE impressive was that it happen in the WORLD SERIES. Talk about clutch.
  9. Dempster: 7 losses, 7 blown saves Isringhausen: 8 losses, 10 blown saves Advantage: Izzy That's not something to be proud of, you know?
  10. Insert American Pie joke here......
  11. Hawk Harrelson, makes me appreciate the kind of job that Len Kasper and Bob Brenly has done, considering the season. Man, Hawk really sucks. He sucks so bad, he should be calling games for the Chicago Blackhawks.
  12. Sorry dude, but Prior "only" makes $3.65 mill this yr, not the "$6 mill" you say. So letting go of Prior at such a low cost, as Tim would say, would be a stupendously stupid move.
  13. Correct. but I thought there was some funny sign/trade transaction were Barrett was an Oakland A for a bit. Barrett went to Oakland for a minor league pitcher Brett Price. Then Michael join the Cubs and Damien went to the A's. Looking at the A's, maybe they SHOULD had kept Barrett.
  14. I used to think that. And if the White Sox sniff the World Series AGAIN this yr, I believe the momentum will be shifting towards the Southside. So, IMO, this offseason is a CRITICAL offseason for Hendry, cause he already has a bitter fanbase to try and appease, and if he has a another BAD offseason (I mean trading three young pitchers for another medicore player, or signing a medicore player), I could see the attendance for Cubs game to drop dramatically.
  15. I don't know about the rest of you, but doesn't Neifi look AWFULly good in a Tiger uniform?
  16. So, will the board be split on Wieters/Price, as they were on Prior/Tex?
  17. Hill needs to continue to pitch well. The Cubs need to be swept so they can put some distance between them and the Pirates. GO cubs?
  18. Hey neely, think about that for a second? No Hendry didn't have to give him away for nothing, but considering he was nothing, it's pretty much a wash. As someone mention Williams went from being a potential starter in the BIG LEAGUES, to being a bad reliever in AAA. I hate to break it to you, but Williams had no value. And IF Hendry could've traded him, he would, and my best guess is...the only kind of value Williams could've brought back, was prolly some 30 yr old AAA journeyman. So, while you still remember Jerome as one of the Giants TOP prospects, the rest of us are living in the land of reality. And the reality is...Jerome Williams could be out of baseball, within the next 2 yrs, if he doesn't get his act straight. Ans SoutsideRyan made a great point, there were alot of pitching starve teams that could have place a waiver on him (KC, Seattle, Pitts, Baltimore, etc). So what does that tell you, that even the most pitching starved teams wouldn't have taken a shot at him?
  19. Prior for Young? If Prior is ever healthy and pitching like he did in 2003, then there would be no way the Cubs would do it. The Rays would do it, if Prior was healthy and under contract for a LONG time. But since he is not, there is no way this deal would happen. So, considering that Delmon is not a favorite within the DRays management right now, it wouldn't surprise me if the dealt him for a young impact type pitcher, who they could control for a long time.
  20. $4.1M in salary relief is more than nothing. It's still robbery if the 4.1m in salary relief was given to Glendon Rusch and Neifi Perez. Just to Rusch now! Those fun house mirrors are expensive as hell. I'm glad Glendon find something that makes him look thinner then what his Cubs uniform does.
  21. IMO, atleast this yr, Howard is more important to the Phillies then Albert is to the Cards. I mean, without Howard...the Philles would be Cubbieesques offensively. Even after dealing Bobby Abreu, Howard has step up his game a notch. When Pujols was out, the Cubs "barely' hung on to their league. I mean the Cards were pretty much lost without Pujols, but the Phillies would be lost without Howard. So, again, I truly believe Howars is the REAL MVP, but Albert will get basically because he is "the name."
  22. Like: The Cubs season ends in early October Dislike: Baker won't be "re-signed" till after the World Series. Other then that, nothing strikes me much about this team.
  23. Pie's not the only one who could use some work on baserunning, bunting (meh) and overaggressiveness at the plate. Maybe they should just demote the Cubs? The non call up is definately good news. And I think this snippet is what going to separately Felix Pie to Corey Patterson. I like the fact that he was "upset' at not getting call up, went out and had a good game, and then found his coach and asked him what he could do better. I like that fire that Pie has shown, and Patterson NEVER showed. I really hope this stop the comparasion between Pie and Patterson. I think Felix now understand what he needs to do to get better, and EARN the callup. Whereas Patterson, just went along with the program. I like this fired Pie just showed.
  24. Dead last in the NL. It sure took longer than expected. We need KC to get extremely hot, and Dusty continue to manage the way he has. If both happens, #1 pick here we come.
