  1. The 2006 Cards are the flukiest team since 03 Marlins. So I hope Detroit does baseball a favor and dominates the Cards.
  2. I would LOVE to see Juan "4-3 Groundout" Pierre making $10 mill from the White Sox, and hearing Guillen trying to defending "Sir Crappy-a-lot" to the White Sox fan. Other then that, I wouldn't mind St. Looey wasted money on Pierre.
  3. Anybody else realize the NL (and the Central for THAT matter) has a 8 game losing streak in the World Series. As much as the Stros and Cards can trash talk about BEING THERE, both teams ahve tremendously embarrassed the NL Central and the NL in general. And this Cards teams is the worst team the NL will be sending since well, in a long time. My guess is...the Tigers in 5. The Cards are going to get a pity game in there.
  4. How many teams want him for 2nd base. How many teams NEED him for 2nd base? When was the last time he PLAYED second base. I say if the Cubs tell them they want him to lead off, but might need him at CF for 1 year before he goest o 2nd, and the price is right. Then I don't see how a cow would have to jump over the moon, before he joined the cubs. . I'll also see a cow jump over a moon before a team signs him to 5/20. NO TEAM in MLB is going to offer $100 million to Soriano, not even Texas. Best guess....Soriano ends up at 5 and $75.
  5. He hit 300 this year with a 360 OBP... he can still play. Other than the injury risk (which you'd have to acknowledge by having a competent CF-er on the bench if you were to sign him), why wouldn't you want Lofton? I was talking about Soriano and you replied with Lofton....Hmmm....I would like Lofton, that's been my stance. And quite frankly on a personal level I thought Lofton was prolly his happiest when he played for the Cubs (seeing as he was a Cub fan growing up), so I wouldn't mind a 2nd dance with Lofton.
  6. Am I the only one who thinks if St. Louis wins one game during the series, it will be a miracle? I swear the Tigers/Cards series has that same feeling as the White Sox/Astros of last yr, you just know the Cards are the sacrificial lambs.
  7. And what dues did Joe Girardi paid when he when he was hired in Florida last yr? I do agree that Sandgerg should get "experience" as a coach, but to use the "paid his dues" quote on Sandberg and not on somebody like a Joe Girardi, is meaningless.
  8. If I remember correctly, Lofton "questioned" Sosa's committment ot playing to win, or something like that. And people say Lofton isn't the easiest person to get along, but Sosa pissed off alot of people in Chicago (Wood/Girardi/Grace, etc, etc) so I tend to believe Kenny was in the "right" with his altercation with Sosa. Why do people continue to sign the Soriano to CF song? I don't get it.
  9. Most insiders believe at this stage of his career, Miguel Tejada is a third base, aka the reverse ARod. And to be honest, I rather keep that package and re-sign ARam.
  10. What' funny that's the same percentage of his accuracy to predict the FA period before happens. In other words...it's his opinion, and I wish he would indicate it is his opinion, not a fact.
  11. I'm hoping Boras (God save me) is trying to convince ARod that the people of Chicago would make him forget of the "unfinished business" he has left in Noo Yawk. And trust me, ARod will never be accepted in noo Yawk. Or perhaps somebody needs to send ARod a video copy of Nomar's first day at Wrigley and the "love" he got from the Cubbie faithful.
  12. First: No, I wouldn't trade Z for ARod. Second: I don't think the Yankees will ask for Zambrano, cause they know the Cubs will say no, but the Yanks are going to want a comparable caliber pitcher. Ie Three team trade is most likely. Third: If you make the trade, not only do you have replace one starter, but perhaps two maybe three. So you trade Z, you HAVE to get either Matsusaka and/or Schmidt and/or Zito. So unless you think the Cubs will pony up enought to land two of three top pitchers and land ARod, I find it doubtfull. To be honest, the Cubs would have to involved a team like the Marlins (Willis) or the Braves (Smoltz) to make the trade work.
  13. Throws out a different angle about Lou Piniella (and feel free to move it, if need be) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/telander/96855,CST-SPT-rick15.article Telander basically implies, that the Cubs COULD be back in this situation against next yr, and would have miss out of some qualified candidates THIS yr. Could you imagine if the Cubs hired Piniella this yr, have a decent season say....88-74...who'se to say that when the Yanks fail to meet "The Boss" expectations, that Georgie would be come-a-callin' for Piniella next yr? I mean to Lou Piniella, the Cubs or the Yankees...there's no choice. So, if I am Jim Hendry I better do all the homework you can do on Piniella, or this hire (alledgedly) can be disasterous for Hendry, and may put a serious stench on his resume for the rest of his career. Think hard, Hendry, think awfully hard.
  14. Am I the only one who thinks Hendry believes that Walrond will replace Rusch on the roster, should Glendon is forced to reitred? Or am I the only one with that fear?
  15. WHAT?! My thoughts as well. Now if it were Marshall, Veal, Jones for Andruw and Hudson...that's a good deal. Sorry vance, I'm not purposedly trying to pick fights with you, or it's not my intention, but imo, if there is one minor leaguer who is OFF-LIMITS, it is Donald Veal. And I certainly would not part with him for two massively overpriced contracts. And I think the Cubs could get Jones and Hudson WITHOUT having to put Veal in. Now, Jones/Marhsall/Marmol/Patterson for Hudson/AJ would atleast get to the table, especially if the Braves don't have to eat much of the contract.
  16. I'm sorry Vance, I much rather have Adam Dunn in LF over Barry Bonds. And you know I'm not all that keen on Dunn, but atleast he would be as productive (BA notwithstanding) as Bonds, and he would play in atleast 140+ games. Just so no, to the massive ego Bonds.
  17. If it is Piniella, then Hendry needs to "Uncle Lou proof" team. Otherwise, if Hendry doesn't make major changes, and gives Piniella the current team, you can chalk down another 90 loss season. But that goes without saying. (edit) Upon further review, if the Cubs hire Piniella, does anybody think Piniella and Guillen (cause we know those two have calm personalities, and allow reason to rule the day  ) will at some point during the season, began a feud?
  18. ...and really, the only reason I wanted Girardi in as manager, so he'd bring Kranitz with him. Ah well, it'll be entertaining at least to see a "firey" mgr at Wrigley! :? Well, Kranitz re-signed with the Marlins yesterday. That's prolly because he knew Girardi wasn't going to get the Cubs job.
  19. For those 100 games, the Cubs would have to win close to 65-70 of those games, and right now, even with Bonds the Cubs don't have the personnel to play .700 ball. And that INCLUDES Bonds. Unlikely. Bonds is still going to ask for at least $10 million, if for nothing else he is closing in on Aaron's "record." So, I doubt he settles for $6 million. Bonds will play the $10 mill or I'd retire ploy. So, I bet on it being at $10 mill. Funny.
  20. That's just not true. He played in 130 games last year. So, vance, you expect him to continue to play at least 130 games in the field as he getting older? Cause I don't.
  21. Nah, our SS is one game away from reaching the World Series, and I don't mean Guillen.
  22. The Cubs already have a Zito like pitcher in the rotation....his name is Rich Hill. Adding Zito would be redundant to say the least. The Daske or wahtever his name from Japan is, or Jason Schmdit should be Hendry's #1's target, and not Zito.
  23. On Bonds: Can we talk about trying to get Dunn, instead? Look Bonds BARELY plays the field anymore. He doesn't play night games after day games, nor does he play in more then 3 or 4 games in row. At best, you MIGHT get 110-120 games out of Bonds. And simply put, Bonds isn't going to be worth the contract the gets. At this stage, Bonds is strictly a DH, no questions asked. I rather gamble on Soriano being able to play CF, over knowing Bonds CAN'T play LF anymore. Bonds is not a worthy gamble candidate. Let Anaheim, Oakland, or perhaps even Texas worry about landing Bonds.
  24. ARam, is that you? :D Well played.
  25. Over/under: how long until Baker gushes about the "play" of Nefti Perez, and how he has glove?
