  1. Soriano's speed is NOT a threat to the Cubs offense, just like Pierre' speed wasn't a threat to the Cubs offense. But what was Pierre's threat to the offense, was his "decision making ability" on when to run, is what hurt the Cubs. If Soriano's makes bad decision on when to steal, THEN it hurts the offense. Speed is only an threat if it is misused. Imagine Berkman and Lee (I know Lance will be at first base) in the outfield. The hilarity that would followed, would be "Three Stooges" esque.
  2. Yeah, but if Lee deal keep the Stros from picking up even remotely SOLID pitching, then it's a good deal for the Cubs and the Cards. Astros with Lee and no Clemens/Petitte is worse then an Astros with Clemens/Petitte and no Lee.
  3. I would give Padilla 4/36. folks are just going to have to come to terms with the fact that league average starting pitchers get paid $9M/year. Padilla is as much of a lock to be league average as anyone, and at 28 has a chance to be a pretty good number two type pitcher. I starting to buy into getting Padilla.
  4. I don't want Jeff Suppan, not because of political views, or his personal likes or dislikes, I don't want Suppan because he is about to get a VERY, very ugly contract. He is about to be paid #2 money, when in reality he is a #4. That is why I don't want Suppan.
  5. Ok, who was that then? Looks a alot like Derosa. I'm thinking that is either Herb Perry or Mike Lamb. Personally, I thought Lou Piniella was simply asking directions to Chicago. 8)
  6. If Floyd "truly" wants to play for the Cubs, then it shouldn't take "$9 mill" to get a deal done, especially with his injry concerns. Once and for all, the rumor didn't state that it would take 9 million guaranteed to sign Cliff Floyd. Go back and read the original post if you have to. It talked about incentives that could reach 9 million. There was no mention of what the base might be and no mention as to what the milestones would be that Floyd would have to reach in order for the incentive money to kick in. Nonetheless, that is way too much IN INCENTIVES to a guy who might play in 100 games.

  8. I know alot of people don't like the idea of a platoon, but I definately see the benefit of having a Floyd/Murton LF. In fact...a Floyd/Murton LF would be very productive, not to mention the Cubs are guarantee to have a solid hitting option off the bench LATE IN THE GAME that improves the chances of winning the game. So if the Cubs can sign Floyd a 1 yr say $4 mill deal (with incentives), I can't see that CAN'T help the Cubs.
  9. Unforutnately, it will come down to the Dodgers and the Cubs, and UNLESS Hendry can knock Schmidt's shoes off (like he did with Soriano), I see Jason staying in Cali.
  10. Thomas and Bagwell was forever be link. The same birthday, the fact that both won MVPs the same yr. Interesting enough, according to Baseballreference.com, on the list of "Similar Hitters" Bagwell top comparasion is........Frank Thomas. And believe it or not it is vice versa Frank Thomas top comparasion is Jeff Bagwell.
  11. Just out of sheer morbid curiosity, which first basemen do you see as being better than Bagwell? Lou Gehrig wasn't too bad. Jimmy Fox won back to back MVPs though I don't know too much else about him. Orlando Cepeda and Willie Stargall, I hear were pretty good, themselves.
  12. http://www.sportsblah.com/2006_11_01_archive.html#116425157140827539 Absolutely GREAT read about the recent contracts given to Pierre/GMJ. Enjoy.
  13. (raises eyebrow ala "The Rock") lube that hot poker up real nice...turn that s******h sideways and stick it straight up your candy a**, if you smell what the rock is cooking
  14. Well, you could say we got stuck signing Soriano because of missing out on better players like Vlad, Beltran, etc. And if Soriano continues to build of a great 2006 into the near future, then "missing out of Vlad/Beltran, etc" would be less embarrassing. And we know that Soriano has the same kind athlethicism and talent those two have, but what he doesn't have---right yet---is the consistancy. If Soriano has a big yr in 2007---which I believe he will---then this signing becomes even better.
  15. Considering the ballpark factor, I see Soriano having a big yr. My guess....is Gary Matthews, Jr.
  16. Angels center-fielders last year: .281/.345/.388 Gary Matthews Jr. career: .263/.336/.419 awesome. 50 million bucks for a .22 point improvement in ops. Who needs Soriano at $17 mill per, when the Cubs could have had Pierre/GMJ for a combine $19 mill per and upgraded absolutely NOTHING. Say what you will about Soriano's contract, but I believe he will be a safer bet to live up to his contract in the next 4 yrs, then Pierre/GMJ will.

  18. I know Berkman will back at his "normal position" of 1B starting 2007, but could you guys imagine a OF that consist of Lee and Berkman, defensively? The hilarity that would have follow, would have been great.
  19. Link? I'm far too lazy to go digging through a bunch of crap. http://mb9.scout.com/flosangelesdodgersfrm1.showMessageRange?topicID=3775.topic&start=5881&stop=5887[/url] The guy who made the post there has sixteen total posts. It could be a dubious source. Well if he heard the story and Deeg heard the exact same story I think its a safe bet that it was an actual report. I'm not doubting anything, just yet....but all we have to go on in the "Schmidt" talk is what is said on the radio. Now, I won't be surprise if Schmidt indeeds signs with the Dodgers, but I'm confident when I say this.....before Schmidt signs with the Dodgers, Hendry is going to want to have atleast a conversation. We're still in the "what I heard on a radio" theory. So right now...this is a preliminary report, and nothing is closed to being final, until we heard from MULITPLE sources (aka Rosenthal/Espn/Fox/ etc all pretty much saying the same thing). So, I take it right now that Schmidt is still a FA.
  20. This reeks of the WFAN reporting the Yanks had signed Greg Maddux a couple of yrs back, before Maddux ended up with the Cubs.
  21. Only if Seattle convinces that the rumors of them "shopping" Beltre and Sexson are just that...."rumors." If Seatte can do that, then yeah...Seattle is guarantee to sign Schmidt, but I don't know if Seattle can make that kind of "promise", tho.
  22. The dead horse called, and he wants you to stop beating him...dude. What part of "end of sarcastic post" don't you get? Oh, I got it, I just think the Dusty jokes are old and annoying at this point. That's all. Well...it wasn't intentionally to be a Baker's joke. It post to be more of a jab at Hendry trying to "recreate" another team's success. Sorry about the miscommunication.
