  1. Carl Pavano is the alias of Mark Prior, so no thank you, we've already got our DL talented starter. And Wright is NO LONGER a Yankee, he was traded to Baltimore---you guess it, considering the O's offseason-----for a reliever name Britton. At this point, I'd rather talk the Braves about Hudson.
  2. I don't. I think the focus is Lilly and Meche, like we've been hearing all along. Zito will be choosing between the Mets for 5/75 and the Rangers for 6/100. I think he's going to get either Lilly or Meche not both. Meche is a backup to Lilly. Then Hendry will try like hell to pry another starter from a team. Which is a much better idea. I'll settle for Lilly, but Meche is a mess. Sign Lilly and try to trade for Westbrook, Penny or Jennings. Sounds good to me. A big no for Meche. Let KC have him If you read the SunTimes articles, it made it sounds like the Cubs were planning to sign both Lilly AND Meche. Take if for what it's worth.
  3. ARod's agent told the Yankees that the NTC wouldn't be waived. ARod is staying in NY. Awww, man....No Andy Roddick for the 2007 season, dang it, you sure know how to break a guy's spirit.
  4. About the article that says the Dodgers beat out the Cards and Seattle, and made no mention of the Cubs: I think the reason for this is that Hendry prolly knew sometime yesterday where Schmidt was heading, and seeing as he couldn't convince Schmidt to come to Chicago, he prolly pulled his offer. That's the only thing I can think of. Bit one thing for sure is this....Schmidt prolly had the Dodgers (there offense is going to be really bad next yr, btw) as his preferred choice, and even with the "World Champs (and I am using that term loosely) making a last minute bid, couldn't change his mind. The fact is, the Cubs and perhaps the Cards were used, it happens.
  5. The White Sox have a surplus of starters (and wants to move one of them to move McCarthy into the rotation), and the Cubs have enough decent spare parts to make a trade happen. How about: Cubs get: Freddy Garcia (or Vazquez) White Sox get: Scott Linebrink Padres get: Jacques Jones/Rule 5 prospect like Fontenot or Fox Cubs get a starter, the Padres address their hole in LF, and the White Sox opens up a spot in the rotation for McCarthy, and recieves some solid bullpen help. I understand a prospect here and there to even out the trade, but that is the jist. Not a rumor, just me thinking out loud.
  6. So would everybody else, but Schmidt and Batista will cost $5M per year more than Meche and Lilly. I'm sure if the Cubs don't get Schmidt, that it won't be because they don't think he's a good pitcher. Unfortunately, (and I hope they are wrong) the SunTimes is making is sound like the Cubs will eventually sign Meche AND Lilly. Which coupled with not signing Schmidt, would be baseball's double whammy.
  7. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/askba/262950.html You see what's mess up? The Cubs get the first pick of the Supplement Rd (between 1st and 2nd) for losing Juan Pierre, whereas the Nats get the 2nd pick of the Sup rd for losing Soriano. Man is that mess up.
  8. The only way the Cards land Schmidt over the Cubs is if he hopes that benefitting from Ecksteins scrappy grittiness is worth the paycut.[/quote] I thought that was the reason why the Cubs brought in Mark DeRosa, or was that Theriot's job? I just don't see how the Cards can outbid the Cubs for Schmidt. My guess is...Schmidt goes to Seattle, and St. Lou re-signs Suppan.
  9. Oh Lord Same here. 5 yrs $55 million for TED FRIGGIN' LILLY? The Cubs better 'roid up on Lilly and get him to pitch like Carpenter, if they signed him to that deal. I can barely see signing him to a 3 yr $33 mill, but 2 more yrs, and 22 mill, HECKS no.
  10. Angel Guzman? :) Yeah, but Guzman doesn't have his experience. Seriously, from the look of those highlights I wonder why the guy only won 11 last year. He really has great stuff from the llok of them. So, Guzman doesn't have the "experience" to be a talented, yet crappy pitcher, is your reason to go after Meche? Meche would be fine if the deal is 2 yrs say $10 mill (5 per), but $40 mill over 4 yrs...IS NOT IDEAL for NEW AJ BURNETT. And yes, I'd prefer Guzman to Meche, IN A HEARTBEAT.
  11. I wonder if Carlos Marmol/Juan Mateo for Ryan Church and Joel Hanrahan or Ryan Wagner (something along that lines) would work?
  12. And also the Yankees are all but out of the Meche/Lilly "Sweepstakes". and... I asked about Schmidt but I don't know how much info there will be since it's probably alot of Blue Jay related info being passed along. Meche at $9 mill per, or Lilly at $11 mill per....not exactly great choices.
  13. Confirmation from the article earlier this week. I think if the deal are competitive, I think Lofton returns home.
  14. Ok, how long till the "Clemens to NY" RUMORS will begin?
  15. They'll also bat .340 with 8 hr and 25 RBI a piece. Don't forget those Cards pitchers would also help LaRussa cure all forms of cancers, and establish everlasting world peace.
  16. And the Lord reach down and tells the unsuspected Cub fan, "My will be done." Then the Lord went to the top of the Sears building and screams, "I am Bruce Alm----I mean I am Lord Almighty." He puts his shades back on an disappeared into the night. Leaving the unsuspecting Cub fan, continue to think about Ryan Church.
  17. ok....my bad. I erased my post, then. Actually, gooney...the article vance did, was from MLB.com, and the page I posted was from the Washington Post, which LISTS the Cubs as potential suitor for Church. Same topic, but generally a different take.
  18. Floyd really doesn't have much in the way of value any longer. If I were Kenny I'd throw in Crede to try and get Hamels. Well considering the Phills turned down a Hamels for Baldelli a few days ago, I HIGHLY doubt Philly is willing to part with Hamels to get Garcia/Crede, just as the Angels are not willing to part with Santana.
  19. Z/Schmidt/Hill/Lilly/Miller-Prior That's a rotation I could be happy with. Now go get a SS and a CF Hendry. I don't like the idea of pitching your left-handed starters back to back. Specially considering Lilly and Hill have a similar style of pitching. Zambrano Schmidt Lilly Miller/Prior Hill That is how I would set the rotation. Considering the fact that Hill is more likely to stay healthy over Miller/Prior...Hill goes 4th, with whoever is healthy at the time between Gooz/Prior/Miller will go fifth.
  20. Two reasons why I SERIOUSLY doubt Arod will be going to the White Sox: 1: About a yr or so ago, Kenny Williams announced that he will never work with Scott Boras ever again, or something to that effect. And I believe Crede is a client of Boras hence the rumors of his trade. 2: Ozzie pretty much called out ARod shortly before the WBC. When ARod was deciding on which country to play for (his parents were from the Domincan, and ARod was born in New York, of all places, so he has duel citizenship), Ozzie basically call ARod a "sell out", and a "coward" for picking to play for Team USA, over The Domincan Republic. And I am sure ARod has not forgotten about it, nor has Boras. So, I doubt ESPN1000 report is valid, because it would contradict everything associated with the White Sox org. Looking at it, I think ARod COULD eventually end up with the Angels or the Dodgers.
  21. That's waht gets me....if you weren't "shopping Hawpe", then why are you fielding calls about him? O'Dowd may have no intentions of trading Hawpe, but the facts are he is at least fielding those calls, and if I was Hawpe, I would tell my agent, I don't want to play for an organization that lies to me, but that is just me.
  22. Something tells me that this is nothing but a smokescreen.
  23. Obviously overpaying is going to be necessary, its the fact of the current market. Hendry should just overpay wisely. Overpaying wisely would net Schmidt, Padilla, and JD Drew. Overpaying unwisely would net Soriano, Lilly, and Meche. I agree in part nilodnay, but I don't necessarily think giving Soriano that contract is "overpaying." Sure the contract doesn't much the talent (I'm hoping 2006 is going to continue in 2007 and beyond, but that's me), but I do think "overpaying", would have been to sign Carlos "Buy me a hamburger" Lee, GM, Jr, and Juan Pierre would have been worse deals, IMO. Otherwise, overpaying is the price to building a team. Now it is up to Hendry to figure out which players are worth the extra dough and who isn't. Lilly, maybe. Marquis...NO. Padilla, I could see it. Meche, Hecks no. In fact Meche should get a contract that Carpenter got, when he first sign with the Cardinals, but oh well.
