  1. Granted, the difference between Adenhart and Husbey is that Adenhart was a consensus top-10 pick before his TJS and Huseby was a virtual unknown. To me, this is definitely more risky than the Adenhart surgery.
  2. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (4-4, 4.50 ERA, 72 IP, 52/17, 1.36 WHIP) @ RHP Denny Bautista (0-2, 6.88 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Juan Mateo (4-4, 2.71 ERA, 63 IP, 48/18, 1.11 WHIP) @ RHP Corey Thurman (2-7, 2.35 ERA) Daytona: RHP Mark Holliman (6-4, 2.78 ERA, 87.1 IP, 82/36, 1.06 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Matt Weber (Daytona: 2-4, 6.67 ERA, 55.1 IP, 26/19, 1.57 WHIP) @ RHP Mario Santiago (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Boise: RHP Brett Jackson (0-1, 10.13 ERA, 8 IP, 5/4, 1.88 WHIP)
  3. Bud Selig has got to HATE the Cubs right about now.
  4. Samardzija pitched on 3 days rest (of course that's not that big a concern when he only threw 33 pitches last time out). Jeremy Papelbon has now thrown 9 shutout innings to open up his pro career. Tyler Colvin has now struck out 7 times in 13 ABs in Boise (with 1 walk).
  5. ERA down to 1.85. 101 Ks, 16 BBs on the season.

  7. That's what happens when you're throwing flat mid-80s FBs with average-at-best sliders. :(
  8. West Tenn and Huntsville are scoreless going to the 5th. Shaver has 6 Ks through 4. Sotolongo and Grant Johnson are doing a good job for Daytona with 7 scoreless. It's 0-0 in the 8th. Peoria up 10-2 in the 3rd. Every Chief besides Johnston and Reynolds (2 walks instead) has a hit. Yusef Carter has a 3-run shot and 5 RBI.
  9. That's awesome, I'm glad to see the Cubs involved in the big names in the Latin American market, hopefully they can net more than one signing. You are the topic of message boards. Aren't you a sophomore-to-be Cal wide receiver?
  10. Ron, what are your thoughts on JR Mathes? He's really come on strong the past month or month and a half. What's he doing good and what does he need to work on? What are his pitches?
  11. He must have had a hell of a workout on May 26th and that other date in Mesa. I imagine his stuff is back - he supposedly has that FB that topped out at 93 mph, a curve, slider and change. He was on my list of most intriguing prospects after the 5th round (including Renshaw and Rundle)...but wowowowowowow is right. Hopefully the area guys know what they're doing.
  12. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Rich Hill (5-1, 1.91 ERA, 70.2 IP, 95/14, 0.83 WHIP) vs. LHP Brian Boehringer (1-4, 3.38 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Juan Mateo (4-4, 2.71 ERA, 63 IP, 48/18, 1.11 WHIP) Daytona: RHP Roberto Sotolongo (0-1, 2.25 ERA, 8 IP, 6/2, 0.88 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (7-2, 3.64 ERA, 84 IP, 36/38, 1.40 WHIP) Boise: RHP Billy Petrick (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 9.2 IP, 10/2, 0.72 WHIP)
  13. Petco generally has more Cubs fans than Padres fans.
  14. Colvin's first 8 ABs: 3 singles. 1 6-3 groundout. 4 Ks.
  15. West Tenn won 5-4. Mathes gave up 4 ER in 6.1 and got 4 Ks. Atlee got his first save at West Tenn. Daytona won 5-4. Olin Wick hit a HR, his 2nd of the year! Daytona scored 3 in the top of the 9th to come from behind for the win. Berg gave up 2 ER in 5, Mendez got the save. Peoria lost 2-1. Scott Taylor gave up the go-ahead run in the 9th inning. He ended up going 8.1 and giving up 2 ER with 2 Ks and a BB. Boise is down 2-1 after 3. Colvin with an RBI single.
  16. Err, Mike Billek was double demoted to Boise and is starting in place of Darin Downs.

  18. What is it with Downs? He was in the same draft as Sean Marshall, and he's still pitcing at Boise? :? Well, he was drafted out of HS while Marshall was drafted out of college. I was surprised to see his return to Boise after pitching pretty well last season. All in all, it's disappointing that he's not at Peoria and that he's struggling in his third stint at Boise. I guess the growth plates didn't work out that well. :P
  19. Her? I thought this individual was a poor guy.
  20. He came darn close to the QS today (was at 3 ER in 5.2 IP when he gave up the bloop single). Yeah, he did. That was a cheap hit. Unless it's Ichiro swinging the bat, I wouldn't assume anyone who gets such a hit was actually trying to do that. And as a side not, I always thought a QS was 7 IP/3 ER. I looked it up though, and you're right. They should change that. I don't necessarily think a 4.50 ERA is quality. It's ok, but I think my meaning of quality is different. I don't see much point in tracking average/mediocre starts as a stat. Sorry, that was kind of a rant. I agree. I think the QS stat is too arbitrary - you're giving someone who gave up 3 ER in 6 IP the same amount of success as someone who gives up 2 in, say, 7.
  21. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (2-6, 3.84 ERA, 79.2 IP, 62/29, 1.28 WHIP) @ RHP Luke Hudson (2-0, 2.80 ERA) West Tenn: LHP JR Mathes (7-4, 2.97 ERA, 91 IP, 66/18, 1.16 WHIP) @ LHP Steve Hammond (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Daytona: RHP Justin Berg (5-6, 4.81 ERA, 82.1 IP, 65/41, 1.57 WHIP) @ LHP Jonathan Figueroa (0-3, 9.60 ERA) Peoria: RHP Scott Taylor: (3-3, 3.57 ERA, 63 IP, 29/11, 1.25 WHIP) vs. RHP Christopher Nicoll (3-5, 2.84 ERA) Boise: LHP Darin Downs (0-2, 11.74 ERA, 7.2 IP, 6/3, 2.22 WHIP)
  22. He came darn close to the QS today (was at 3 ER in 5.2 IP when he gave up the bloop single).
  23. Boise loses 1-0. Pawelek ran into some 2-out trouble in the 7th, giving up a single, a walk and an RBI single before being pulled for Michael Cooper who got out of the jam. Mark's line: 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3/2. Colvin ended up going 1/4 with 2 Ks.
  24. Yeah, I've been hearing the rumors too.
