  1. Yeah, he certainly was impressive last night. Jered is going to have a better season than Jeff, at this rate. Kendry certainly has been impressive too. I think Billingsley will get called up soon by the Dodgers.
  2. While Von wasn't a player who got on base much, he has definitely preached plate discipline to Cubs minor leaguers and has certainly helped guys like Felix Pie and Matt Murton the past few seasons.
  3. Probable Starters: Iowa: TBD* @ RHP Justin Lehr (0-1, 5.40 ERA) West Tenn: LHP JR Mathes (5-3, 3.53 ERA, 51 IP, 33/11) vs. Corey Thurman (1-4, 2.56 ERA) Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (0-1, 6.75 ERA, 20 IP, 19/17) vs. RHP Yovani Gallardo (4-3, 2.52 ERA) Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (3-1, 4.78 ERA, 49 IP, 22/17) vs. RHP Jacob Rasner (3-3, 3.65 ERA) *My guess: Baez or Williams
  4. Heh, evidence that Hendry doesn't read NSBB. They're still just waiting on that win streak before announcing the extension. They all need to go. Hendry really needs to consult us before he makes another move. Actually, he should just pack his bags and leave Chicago (along with Dusty, the other coaches, and MacPhail).
  5. That explains why his spot was skipped today in Iowa!
  6. I don't think Baker is capable of this. He lets the highs get too high and the lows too low. Flipping the "game ball" to Russ Ortiz in Game 7 of the World Series tipped me off to this. I hadn't heard this - what happened?
  7. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (4-1, 2.25 ERA, 52 IP, 34/25) vs. RHP Jared Fernandez (1-1, 2.03 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Bobby Brownlie (1-2, 6.57 ERA, 12.1 IP, 13/6) vs. LHP Adam Bostick (3-2, 4.12 ERA) Daytona: RHP Grant Johnson (4-5, 5.14 ERA, 49 IP, 26/20) Peoria: RHP Scott Taylor: (1-2, 2.93 ERA, 27.2 IP, 15/2) @ LHP Zach Phillips (1-3, 5.36 ERA)
  8. Cubs are fighting arch rivals Pittsburgh, Florida and KC for the first pick.
  9. I don't think Troy has played SS since his junior year at UCLA.
  10. Can we trade for Mauer, Nathan, Liriano and Santana? (Now, not 10 years from now.)
  11. A comparison of Gallagher and Gaby Hernandez. Gallagher has the advantage in maturity (more advanced, better poise and presence), has a sharper breaking ball and better FB command (though it only rates as an average FB - he has less velocity on it than Gaby). Hernandez has more projectability; Gallagher's has filled out. Overall, Sean has the advantage in the comparison.
  12. No, they didn't. Jered was drafted in 2004, he fell to #12 - the Cubs didn't have a first rounder that year (thanks to LaTroy).
  13. Isn't G-Unit back in the rotation already in place of Hill?
  14. Ignoring his previous 25 AAA innings for one poor start?
  15. One of those 4 was an inherited runner that Matt Avery allowed.
  16. Wow, thank goodness I missed the game because of work!
  17. Probable Starters: Iowa: TBD* vs. RHP Dennis Sarfate (2-1, 3.09 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Randy Wells (2-1, 1.57 ERA, 34.1 IP, 27/6) vs. LHP Manu Olivera (1-0, 1.93 ERA) Daytona: RHP Mark Holliman (2-3, 3.70 ERA, 48.2 IP, 50/23) @ LHP Eric Fowler (4-2, 2.91 ERA) Peoria: LHP Donnie Veal (4-2, 2.68 ERA, 47 IP, 59/30) @ RHP Juan Jimenez (1-0, 3.86 ERA) * Probably LHP Ryan O'Malley (2-2, 3.41 ERA, 31.2 IP, 27/2) or RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (1-3, 3.12 ERA, 43.1 IP, 37/17)
  18. Sure until you're going back to get your doctorate. Then stats aren't so much fun. You gotta to quit when you're ahead.
  19. baker's philosophy of "always be aggressive" is killing the team. i think hendry's more at fault than dusty, but firing dusty---and, most importantly, gene clines, will go a long way towards improving the OBP and SLG of this ballclub. Get rid of everyone, MacPhail on down. Oh yeah, and what sethuel said.
  20. I don't know how much stock the Cubs put into plate discipline, so I think he'll be up with the big league team for sure next season (possibly later this season). He's definitely a work in progress, though.
  21. You really think after years of post-9/11 birth certificate scrutiny, Albert Pujols' age is wrong? And yes, I want Cabrerra on the Cubs. Too bad the Cubs don't have the bargaining chips for him.
  22. Probable Starters: Iowa: TBD* @ RHP Victor Moreno (1-1, 5.31 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Chris Shaver (2-3, 3.18 ERA, 39.2 IP, 37/13) vs. LHP Paul Mildren (3-3, 4.35 ERA) Daytona: RHP Sean Gallagher (4-0, 1.99 ERA, 54.1 IP, 53/12) @ RHP Daniel Core (2-0, 2.10 ERA) Peoria: RHP Mitch Atkins (3-0, 2.34 ERA, 42.1 IP, 45/15) @ TBD Your choices for Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (2-2, 3.41 ERA, 31.2 IP, 27/2) LHP Rich Hill (1-0, 1.44 ERA, 25 IP, 33/7)
