  1. He doesn't throw as hard as John. But I think he'll have a similar career (some success from time to time) to John, with quite a few chances at the big league level.
  2. The one in the mid-80s was a 12-6 curve and the one in the low 80s was probably his change. Why did Homer only go 4.2 IP? It's good to see Evan back in the lineup and healthy. Gotta root for the local kids. :)
  3. I think it was explained quite well already -- ARod was the superior player at that position. Pretty simple, actually. If you think the hatred for aRod is bad now, imagine if he had taken Jeter's position. If I'm the Yankees or a Yankee fan, I don't care if people hate one of my players. I only care for what makes my team better, and Rodriguez playing SS is that.
  4. I didn't think you'd take 8 million solo HR's literally. I didn't. I also know better than to think that Corey has a higher rate of solo HR's than most.
  5. Hendry was really interested in Gonzalez after the 2002 season. It makes sense.
  6. Nah, Derrek will win it again. Just to prove how meaningless the award really is.
  7. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu (6-7, 3.69 ERA) West Tenn: LHP JR Mathes (9-7, 3.28 ERA) Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (4-7, 5.07 ERA) Peoria: RHP Scott Taylor: (7-8, 3.39 ERA) @ RHP Greg Reinhard (5-9, 4.44 ERA) Boise: RHP Jake Renshaw (0-1, 11.25 ERA; 0-2, 6.48 ERA) Ryu: 117 IP, 96/43, 1.28 WHIP Mathes: 134.1 IP, 95/26, 1.22 WHIP Perez: 99.1 IP, 77/52, 1.78 WHIP Taylor: 124.2 IP, 62/21, 1.20 WHIP Renshaw (Boise & Mesa): 25 IP, 18/7, 1.56 WHIP
  8. Yessssssssss. I've already trademarked the title John Koronka II for Ryan.
  9. Rafael Dolis is also under 20 and very, very intriguing. Great strikeout numbers and a nice fastball.
  10. Mesa wins it 8-1. Gilbert with a triple, a HR and 4 RBI. Rosario went 3 for 4 with a strikeout. Andersen goes 1 for 4 with a BB and a strikeout. Ceda: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 6 K. Hernandez: 3 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 1 K.
  11. Wow, I was actually kind of hoping that the Cubs would get Pennington when Pawelek looked too expensive. I guess it's a good thing we chose otherwise. I wanted Pawelek or Hochevar. In hindsight, Garza woulda been a nice pick.
  12. Mesa now up 4-0 after 6 on the power of a Cody Gilbert 2-run HR. Jose Ceda: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 6 K 17-year old Robert Hernandez: 2 IP, 0 R, 3 H Cliff Andersen: 0 for 2, 2 groundouts, BB Huh, 2005 A's first round pick Cliff Pennington, who has struggled mightily at high-A Stockton (.203/.302/.277) is playing for the AZL A's and is 1 for 2 today and batting .364 in 11 AZL ABs.
  13. Mesa adds another in the top of the 5th and lead it 2-0. They had a chance at more, but with runners at corners, a double steal goes awry and Cesar Valentin is caught trying to steal home.
  14. So, triple or not? MiLB.com changed his triple to a single, apparently. :( Wow, MiLB.com really screwed up...at the time, they called what was an IF single a triple.
  15. The final lines on the combined no-hitter against Peoria: Michael Wlodarczyk: 8 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 7 K Celso Rondon: 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K (struck out the side in the 9th) It's the second time this season that a Cubs minor league team was no-hit. Of course, Mesa still won 1-0 in the game they were no-hit in.
  16. Iowa loses 7-4. Felix Pie: 4 for 5, double, 3 singles, 2 runs. Freddie Bynum: 1 for 4, single, BB, RBI. Bynum at Iowa: .200/.250/.200/.450 in 15 ABs/16 PAs. Randy Wells: 4 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 5 BB, 3 K. Manager Mike Quade was ejected in the 6th inning. West Tenn lost 5-2. Federico Baez: 5.1 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 0 K, 2 HR. Aron Weston: 1 for 4 with a solo HR and 2 strikeouts. Mesa is up 1-0. Sounds like Jose Ceda has thrown a lot of pitches: 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 6 K. Rundle has the night off. Andersen: 0 for 1, BB.
  17. Tirado: Strike 1 swinging. Strike 2 looking. Ball 1 in the dirt. Fouled back, still 1-2. Strike 3 swinging. Peoria loses 12-0 and is no-hit.
  18. The Peoria Chiefs are 1 out away from being no-hit. Francisco Tirado is their last hope.
  19. Peoria is being no-hit through 7 and losing 12-0. Gregg, Reynolds and Carter have all walked.
  20. The slumping Daytona Cubs lose 5-4. For the second straight day, one of their top relievers blows a lead - Paul Schappert gave up 2 ER in the 8th inning and takes the loss. The D-Cubs are now 1.5 out of first place and drop to third place. Ryan Harvey finishes 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 RBI.
  21. Yeah, that was a really bad idea. The rest of the drive was very encouraging and good.
  22. Randy Wells gives up 3 in the bottom of the 4th and Iowa is down 5-2 in the top of the 5th. Randy Wells: 4 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 5 BB, 3 K, 92 pitches (48 strikes). Felix Pie: 2 for 2, double, triple Freddie Bynum: 1 for 2, RBI single Mobile is up on West Tenn 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th. Federico Baez: 5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 0 K Daytona up 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th. Ryan Harvey: 2 for 4, 2 RBI. Mark Holliman: 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 HBP, 0 BB, 5 K Peoria is down 12-0 in the 6th AND being no-hit. Fabian Jiminez: 4+ IP, 8 R, 6 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 HBP, 1 K Jesus Yepez: 0.2 IP, 4 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 1 K
  23. RASHIED! 100 YARDS! :D
