  1. Oh, and why is he going to the pen? Probably Guzman. Probably because he'd be on 8 days rest for his big league debut/first start, probably not the best way to start his big league career. And also because a guy like Guzman would be the better candidate to start.
  2. Yikes, calling Needles beautiful!? Heading any further west? Yes, bound for beautiful Fontana, CA. The question, at this point in time, is when ?? We call it Fontucky out here. :P I better run and hide, Fred will be 25 miles from me!! Instead of running and hiding..... why don't you come down to the truck stop in Ontario and buy me breakfast in the morning, eh? Morning? What's that? Let me know when you're coming to the IE, I work about 10-15 miles from Ontario.
  3. How did they downgrade their offense by switching from Cedeno to Izturis at short? That one move alone does not downgrade their offense-it actually upgrades it. Walker leaves the lineup too.

  5. I don't see why the Cubs need to improve their defense, which is one of the 5-10 best in baseball, at the expense of their offense, which is one of the worst in baseball.
  6. If Guzman was a possibility, then that would have been worth the gamble. He has the character issues, but he would come cheap and if the problems persisted he could have been shipped off in some capacity. But, it will be interesting to see Joel Guzman with the terrible trio in Tampa(Durham). That team might implode. My point just being that if it was Kemp or Guzman, Kemp is a greater prospect. Guzman too would have been a great pick up and I would be pissed that Hendry passed on him, just not as upset as Kemp. I also don't think Guzman's "character issues" are anywhere near as bad as those of Delmon Young, BJ Upton or Elijiah Dukes. Kid was just pissed off he got demoted to AAA and *might* have a questionable work ethic. The first part is very understandable. As I sit, I'm pissed the Cubs couldn't get Delwyn Young or Greg Miller, and instead got Izturis.
  7. Mine was, shockingly, about UCLA sports.
  8. I'm shocked that he's so advanced defensively, seeing as he converted from SS. I figured eventually he'd be a good to great defender, but not this early. Thanks for the reply.

  10. we'll see. if he doesn't qualify as a Type A, the only reason would be his switch to first for most of his ABs this year and Baker's use of Neifi over Walker both this year and last year. again, just shooting outselves in the foot. even so, I think it would be quite easy to pick a guy in the first three rounds that could put up Ceda's numbers in the Dom.L. or in AZ. And his injury limited his PT, which would affect the arbitration ratings. Ceda is a 19-year old throwing 99 mph with very limited secondary stuff, about what the Cubs could get out of a HS pitcher in the 3rd round area. As long as Walker doesn't become a Type A free agent, I have no problem with this trade.
  11. I've got no problem with Walker for Ceda. Walker wouldn't be back next year, anyway, and Ceda may or may not contribute in the future. This organization has developed some decent pitchers in recent years. However, I can't believe Hendry did the deal for Izturis instead of a couple prospects. Izturis - whose glove is probably going to be worth three wins next year - is redundant on a team with Cedeno and Perez. the problem I have with the Walker deal is suggested in my thread in the transactions forum. Ceda's future success is no more predictable right now than an early round draft pick. Walker would probably qualify as a Type A FA, if not a type B, which means the Cubs could have had two early round draft picks for him, if not one high draft pick. in other words, in a roundabout way the Cubs just traded two high draft picks for one, or just traded a high pick of their own choosing for a high draft pick of someone else's choosing. if Walker accepted arbitration, I'll take his better than mediocre D (recent performance notwithstanding) and .350 OBP for another year, no problem. Walker was not going to get a Type A class. I have no problem with Ceda vs. a Type B/Type C class pick.
  12. Mateo's Minor League Career Mateo's 2006 at West Tenn Note that he has about 310 career innings in the minors and was a reliever until midway through last season in Daytona. He missed a few starts earlier this season due to a hip injury.
  13. Nope; extreme flyball pitcher. :( I like ground balls. Wait for Billy Petrick. :) And Sean Marshall to get healthy.
  14. Forget Joel Guzman. If he really passed on Kemp for Izturis, I'd flip a gasket. If he still qualified for BA's midseason top prospects list, he'd be around 7-10. Kid's a stud.
  15. The part where he's probably not ready for the double jump? I'd rather have seen Ryu or Guzman (though I'd guess it looks like Gooz will start on Thursday)
  16. That rules out Ryu as a possible starter for the Cubs on Thursday. I think that's another sign Guzman will be up (unless the Cubs change their mind and hold Mateo back for the start rather than using him out of the pen). Guzman would be the most likely candidate. He'd be on 5-days rest. Mateo would be on 7-days rest. He could probably pitch on the side or get an inning in and still start, though.

  20. He's going to be a #3 starter. But this thread is about the best prospects in the FSL, so it's based a lot on their performance while there.
  21. I still have Guzman ahead of the other three and I know I'm not the only one (heck Mateo is pretty far back). Let Guzman do what's best fo him, especially given the injuries he's coming off of. Ron's right.
