  1. Drew Tate will play for Iowa this weekend.
  2. Mercy call for Bynum, eh? Might as well set the record...
  3. A convo with my former roommate, a Dodger fan: Dodger Fan (5:17:22 PM): your 2nd baseman is sweet Dodger Fan (5:18:00 PM): sorry to rub it in but no wonder they are doing so bad Dodger Fan (5:31:49 PM): oh my god Dodger Fan (5:32:01 PM): your 2nd baseman is the worst i've ever seen in my life Dodger Fan (5:32:29 PM): i'd be mad if i were you Dodger Fan (5:32:34 PM): and furcal went deep Dodger Fan (5:34:11 PM): your announcer just said "can we have a do-over here, can we just start this one over?" hahaha
  4. Charlie Steiner was ripping the Cubs for their lack of OBP while they were hitting, noting that only Lee and Murton have OBPs over .350. Yay outside media for getting it. P.S. It sucks that Vin Scully does so few TV games these days. Steve Lyons is not a good announcer.
  5. Devil Rays Fire Durham Staff
  6. Holy crap, that was a pretty dumb risk on Bynum's part with Lee up next.
  7. WTG, Bynum. 2-0 Dodgers. WTG Bynum Part II. 3-0 Dodgers. Now 4-0 in the middle of the 1st.
  8. Now 3-0.
  9. That explains why the Braves have been in the cellar all those years...it's the humidity! Oh, wait...
  10. More on Veal from BA's Player of the Year Chat:
  11. Stuff related to this thread in the BA chat on the Minor League POY:
  12. Raisin, in your opinion do you think he is better than Ryan Zimmerman? I think he is head and shoulders better, perhaps not as good defensively, but is far superior offensively. I don't see how KC has kept him down all year. Oh yeah I am leaving to go see him play in an hour. Go Wichita beat those darn Astors. Yeah, he's much better than Zimmerman. Better power, more discipline, Gordon's bat is just much better than Zimmerman's. (And Zimmerman is a heck of a player: .285/.352/.466/.818 in his first full big league season and probably one of, if not the best third baseman defensively in the game). I like what KC did, especially since Gordon was struggling in June. I can see why they wouldn't want to bring him up in August-September in regards to starting his arby clock and also, they're giving him some minor league playoff experience. Here's the writeup from BA: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/news/262429.html
  13. Is this b/c of the long season he just played or do teams do this for most 1st year players? Just the long season. At this point in his development, instructs should be as helpful for Colvin as going anywhere in Latin America anyways. Some teams do send their higher-rated college draft picks somewhere (especially if they took too long to sign). For example, the Cubs are sending Steve Clevenger to Hawaii.
  14. I doubt Tyler is going anywhere during the winter (outside of Mesa).
  15. The game is on Prime Ticket in LA, the OC and the IE and AM 980 across Southern California.
  16. I'm pretty sure KC posted the blurb about Veal, Gallagher and Fox elsewhere, but the "Two Steps Back" came out today so here are both: If Dopirak can heal properly, I expect a solid season at AA from him. I was more disappointed with Grant Johnson, seeing as he didn't have injury problems like Dopirak and Sing.
  17. Alex Gordon was named BA's Minor League Player of the Year.
  18. I think the Todd Walker trade was easily the best, in terms of what the Cubs got back.
  19. DKWG, I've read of a few scouting comparing Butler to Hafner (just based on his offense).
  20. ah touche, but he also has the abitlity to play corner of and 1b. Heh, in that case, Upton has the ability to play SS and CF. Yeah I guess, I just think it was pretty obvious that Gordon was the better player considering he could be a good big leaguer from day one. Upton might not ever even make it up. But the point of the draft isn't to get the first guy to the big leagues or the guy who's going to contribute quite a bit within the first few years of the draft. It's to get the best player throughout his career.
  21. Roy Williams disagrees. He guaranteed a Lions' victory. I love how he backed off soon after.
